Yup, 6 minutes in the IP is all you need. That and that garlic butter sauce you serve it with.

But excuse me while I just faceplant myself into this butter sauce here. Its been a long two weeks away from home!

How To Cook Shrimp And Broccoli In The Instant Pot

Step 1.

Put all of the sauce ingredients in the pot, add thawed shrimp and broccoli and cover with the lid. If you chose not to add broccoli , leave it until after pressure cooking.

Step 2.

Make sure that the valve/vent is in SEALING position. Click on manual or pressure cook and set on LOW. Set the cooking time at 0 minutes and let it come to pressure.

As the Instant Pot comes to pressure, the food will cook. When it beeps, quickly release the steam and carefully open the lid.

The sauce will be thin and will look like in the picture below.

Step 3.

Now its time to thicken the sauce using corn starch slurry. Remove the broccoli from the pot if you added it earlier, and set aside.

Mix corn starch with water , then add it to the pot. Press on saute and set for 2 minutes.

The slurry will thicken the sauce, and give the food a lovely glaze.

If the sauce is not thick enough, then add more slurry and mix it again on saute mode. Put the broccoli back in, and mix with the sauce.

Serve over Instant Pot white rice , and garnish with sesame seeds.

And pair with tasty homemade yum yum sauce!

It totally depends on your rice, yes! Not all brands, packages of rice are the same though they all say basmati rice in the package > Some need more water and some less. Some need more cooking time and some less.

How do we solve this? I came up with two different cooking methods for you . So, which method is right for you?

    Cooking method-1

    • If you have tried this recipe already and you have had great success. Just stick to this.
    • If you cook different rice recipes in your Instant pot and use the rice setting and love the way the rice gets cooked , then this is right for you.

    Cooking method-2

    • If you have tried this recipe before and had a mushy outcome, then go for this.
    • If you are not sure about your rice or cooking method

Another important note for cooking rice in instant pot > It depends on the size of your Instant pot.

I tried making this garlic butter shrimp and rice in Instant pot in a 3-quart Instant pot and a 8-quart Instant Pot. Result? Fried rice in 8-quart was much more firmer that the 3-quart. So, if you a own a larger Instant Pot, then use that for firmer rice.

Can You Steam Frozen Shrimp In The Instant Pot

Instant Pot Shrimp is one of those recipes in the even better category. Ive long advised my readers on my original blog, The Wicked Noodle, to purchase their seafood frozen and not from the seafood counter . Otherwise you have no idea how long its been sitting there, thawed and desperately needing to be prepared as soon as possible. Buying it frozen means YOU control how long its thawed and, therefore, how quickly it gets cooked.

Which is why Instant Pot Shrimp is so perfect! If youre buying it frozen anyway, and can skip the process of thawing it completely, its so much easier and faster. Plus no more planning ahead to thaw something!

Its also not just possible to steam frozen shrimp in the Instant Pot, its advisable to do so. Shrimp can easily overcook, so starting from frozen is preferable as it allows the shrimp to cook to the perfect doneness.

What Shrimp Are Best In Shrimp Paella In An Instant Pot

Quick + Easy Instant Pot Shrimp Scampi

For my shrimp paella, I recommend using medium-sized fresh shrimp that are cleaned, peeled, and deveined.

Approximately U30 to 40-count shrimp is what I suggest meaning there are 30 to 40 shrimp per pound.

However, in this recipe you only need a half pound, so about 20 shrimp.

The shrimp cook in the instant pot so you need to start with fresh, uncooked shrimp, rather than previously cooked shrimp, including frozen shrimp that have already been cooked. Look for raw, fresh, medium-sized shrimp.

Do I Need A Paella Pan To Make Shrimp Paella

You definitely do not need a paella pan if youre making it on the stovetop. While its a nice thought, they are huge, bulky, and impossible to store in an average sized kitchen.

This is why I decided to embark upon making shrimp paella in an instant pot.

However, if you dont have an instant pot, as indicated above, simply make your homemade paella with shrimp in a large skillet.

What Size Shrimp Do I Need

How To Cook Frozen Shrimp In The Instant Pot

For this recipe Im using Super Colossal size shrimp. Or just an XL size shrimp

Shrimp is my favorite part of this recipe so Ive amped it up to a full 2 lbs.

PRO TIP: If using a smaller size shrimp, reduce the cook time after you add the shrimp to 0 minutes at high pressure. Trust me, itll still cook the shrimp and they wont turn out overcooked.

Youll notice that Ive left the peels and tails on my shrimp. I think this makes it more fun to eat cause you really get in there with your hands.

If you want to use shrimp that is already peeled and tails off, that works too. No need to make any adjustments to the recipe or cook time.

    Does The Alcohol Cook

When you are cooking with alcohol using a Pressure Cooker or slow cooker, the alcohol wont evaporate as when you were cooking on the stove-top. In this case, the alcohol is sealed, and only a portion of it will evaporate into steam. Therefore, the dish should only be served to adults. Alternatively, to remove more of the alcohol, after pressure cooking, select saute and simmer the dish for a few more minutes. As a result, the alcohol will evaporate.

    Instant Pot Broccoli Recipe

Broccoli usually cooks in 0 minutes, thats why it works great in this recipe. If youre worried that the broccoli might turn out soft and you like it crunchy, just separately steam it in the Instant Pot and then add it to the shrimp after thickening the sauce. Alternatively, you can add raw broccoli florets to the pot after pressure cooking and thickening the sauce, cover with the lid and let it steam for a couple of minutes.

    DO NOT USE FROZEN BROCCOLI.

To learn how to steam broccoli in the Instant Pot, and get the desired texture, check out my Instant Pot steamed broccoli recipe.

We received some feedback where readers reported that the broccoli turned into a mush, so I strongly recommend adding it only after pressure cooking to avoid the disappointment.

Storing Reheating And Freezing The Meal

This shrimp recipe can be stored for-5 days in the refrigerator. Use an airtight container to make sure it stays fresh.

To reheat, follow these directions based on what you will be using:

    • Microwave: It is best to reheat the shrimp separately so it doesnt become tough and rubbery. Remove the shrimp and add a splash of water to the pasta. Heat on high for 1-2 minutes, then heat the shrimp for about 20 seconds and add back into the pasta.
    • Stovetop: Warm a little bit of oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the leftovers and stir until heated all the way through. You can also do this in your Instant Pot using the Sauté button. Make sure to stir constantly as the pot gets hotter than a pan on the stove will.

It is not recommended to freeze this shrimp recipe. When thawed and reheated, the pasta will be mushy and the shrimp with have a tough, rubbery texture.
