Instant Pot Duo Crisp Vs Ninja Foodi
Its the most common question in my inbox lately: How does the Duo Crisp stack up against theNinja Foodi?
After using them both, Ive been thinking of the Foodi as an air fryer that can pressure cook while the Instant Pot Duo Crisp is a pressure cooker that can air fry.
The biggest difference between the two is that the Foodis airfryer lid is nonremovable while the Duo Crisp has a removable airfryer lid.
Ultimately, theyre both great machines, and I get great results from both of them!

Overfilling Your Instant Pot Can Lead To A Messy Kitchen And Undercooked Food
No matter how hungry you are, your Instant Pot can only handle so much food. Overfilling the appliance can result in poorly cooked food or even leakage.
âThis is a messy mistake because you risk a lot of splatter in the kitchen. Pay attention to the max fill line to avoid this,â registered dietitian Rachel Fine told Insider.
Make sure your Instant Pot is never more than 2/3 full. And if youâre cooking food that expands, such as rice or quinoa, donât fill the appliance more than halfway.

Swap over to the domed air fryer lid to use the air fry, roast, bake, broil, and dehydrate settings.

Problem : The Screen Says Nopr
The code “noPr” on the screen means that the pot isn’t building up pressure like it should.
The fix: This problem is usually due to a leaky lid, or the steam release handle isn’t in the sealed position all the way. First, check the steam release handle and make sure it’s where it should be.
If the handle is already in the right position, quick release the rest of the pressure, remove the lid and let it cool. Then, take a look at the seal. It’s probably out of place or dirty, which is preventing it from sealing. Here’s how to clean the seal and the rest of your Instapot, properly.
Another cause may be that you don’t have enough liquid in the pot to build pressure. Check your recipe to be sure.

Redesigned Inner Cooking Pot
The Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus has a redesigned inner cooking pot with a flat bottom, handles, and a Tri-Ply stainless steel that can transfer to the stovetop.
I really love the handlesthey lock the cooking pot in place, so you dont have to hold it while youre stirring. Plus, the stay-cool handles make it much easier to have a good grip on the pot when you remove it.

What Is An Instant Pot
The Instant Pot is an electric pressure cooker. However, it can also sauté, slow cook, steam, cook rice, keep foods warm and more. Basically, it works by allowing steam pressure to build up inside the pot, creating a high temperature environment that cooks foods faster. The Instant Pot has many features that make it safer and easier to use than a traditional stove top pressure cooker .
I have the popular 6-Quart Instant Pot Duo but they also make a mini 3-Quart version and a large 8-Quart version. There are also a number of different models available within each sizing. I recommend comparing the differences to find the best Instant Pot model for you.
What Is Quick Release
This is the fastest way to release the pressure from your Instant Pot and stop the cooking process. To use the quick release method, turn the steam release handle on the top of the Instant Pot from the sealed position to the venting position. This will allow the excess steam to shoot out of the lid immediately, and the Instant Pot will be depressurized within minutes.
We like using quick release for fast-cooking vegetables like broccoli, or delicate seafood like this lemony poached salmon recipe.
Editors Tip: Be sure to read the safety precautions before using the quick release method!

Other Instant Pot Cooker Options
If the original Instant Pot design isnt what youre looking for, the brand offers plenty of alternatives. Specialized Instant Pot models have the same effortless controls, safety, and excellent quality as weve come to expect from Instant Pot, but they accommodate specific cooking methods.
For example, the Instant Aura Pro is a high-capacity slow cooker that can handle larger foodstuffs, including racks of beef or pork, with ease. The Instant Zest is perfect for those in need of a rice cooker. The Zest can cook large amounts of rice with ease, whether for commercial kitchens or large families enjoying a meal.
Both alternative cookers do their jobs exceptionally well. They also include plenty of fan-favorite features from the original Instant Pot series, such as multiple modes for cooking different foods and convenient timer settings. Instant Pot also offers blenders and toaster ovens. They truly have something to use for just about every kitchen task that you can imagine.

Two Completely Separate Lids
I absolutely love the way Instant Pot has handled the two-lid set up of the Instant Pot Crisp.
Both lids are completely removable, which cuts down on the weight you have to lift at any one time. The Instant Pot knows what lid youre using and wont allow you to use a pressure cooking function when the air fryer lid is on .
The pressure cooker lid is the same as the Ultra and the Nova, so it has the quick release switch that automatically resets to the Sealed position when the lid is closed.
If youre familiar with other models of Instant Pot, you likely already know and love the handle slots used for resting your pressure cooking lid after cooking. The air fryer lid fits ingeniously into these handle slots. This makes it so easy to line up the lid and base sensors needed to power the air frying lid.
Because of the connection between the lid and the base, there is no power cord on the air fryer lid.
The air frying lid also has a cool matching tray. Use it with the Instant Pot logo facing upwards to have a safe place to put the lid when its hot. Once the lid has cooled, you can turn the tray over and the air frying lid will lock in place for safe storage.
If You Forget To Seal Your Instant Pot’s Valve The Appliance May Not Work Properly
The Instant Pot uses extreme pressure and heat to cook ingredients, which is why it cooks meals so much faster than a stove or slow cooker.
This means that you need to make sure the appliance is properly sealed or your food won’t cook properly.
“One common mistake that people make when using the Instant Pot is forgetting to set the valve to the sealing position,” Carrie Forrest, creator of Clean Eating Kitchen and author of the official Instant Pot book, “Healthy Meal Prep Instant Pot Cookbook,” told Insider. “You will know that you may have forgotten to set the valve to ‘sealing’ when you hear air escaping from around the sealing ring after the pot has come up to pressure.”
To fix this, simply cancel the cooking time and carefully set the valve to the sealing position rather than the venting setting. Then, reset the cooking time and restart the Instant Pot.

Instant Pot Duo Nova Review
As an Amazon affiliate, and affiliate with other businesses, I earn from qualifying purchases.
The Instant Pot Duo Nova is the last of the new pressure cookers unveiled in 2019. The Nova has the button layout of the Duo mixed with the auto-seal lid of the Ultra. You can buy the Nova in a 3, 6, 8, or 10-quart size!
The Instant Pot company recently released the Instant Pot Duo Nova and sent me a 6-quart to review!
The Nova has all the functionality of the best-selling Instant Pot Duo, but with an improved display and button configuration on the housing. AND the push-button pressure release that I love from the Duo Plus.
And, if youre interested in cooking large batches, the Nova is the first Instant Pot to come in a 10-quart size.

Looking to Buy? The Instant Pot Duo Nova 6-quart is available now on and is also available from many retail stores. If youre looking for the 10-quart, however, Ive only found it available online from and Kohls.
Just Bought a New Nova? Read the review for the basics of your machine, then hop over to my Getting Started Guide to get cooking in your new Duo Nova! Ill walk you through everything!
What You Need To Know Before Buying The Instant Pot Duo Nova
Unlike the Duo Plus, the Duo Nova does not have a sous vide setting. If youre interested in using the sous vide, youll want to buy a different version that does include this button.
Most recipes are written for 6-quart pressure cookers, so the larger 8-quart and 10-quart sizes will definitely need recipe modifications in order to come to pressure. As a general rule, youll want to use at least 2 cups of water when cooking in the 10-quart Instant Pot.
Larger pressure cookers also take longer to come to pressure, so be sure to account for this additional time when preparing your meal.

What Comes With The Instant Pot Evo
The Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus comes with one red and one clear silicone gasket. They recommend using one for savory and one for sweet. It also comes with a redesigned low steam rack with handles. If you want to use the rack but dont want the handles up, you can fold them over flat and use it in your Instant Pot.
There are a large number of Instant Pot accessories available.
Understand The Instant Pot Time Display
This can be a little confusing so lets walk through it. After you set your cook time, you will hear a series of beeps and the display will show the word On, indicating that it is starting to build pressure. Once pressure is reached, the float valve pops up and the display changes from On to the programmed cook time. You will see this time count down to indicate the remaining time in minutes. Once it reaches zero, you will hear a beep and the Instant Pot will go into the Keep Warm cycle. During this cycle, the display shows an L in front and the time will count up to indicate how long it has been on Keep Warm. This is helpful when you are doing a 10 minute natural release since you can just wait until the Keep Warm display shows L0:10.
Note: So remember that if your time display shows the letter L in front that it has finished cooking and is in Keep Warm mode.

Something Burned On The Bottom Of Inner Pot
The number one reason for a burn notice after not having enough thin liquid is that something is burned on the inner pot.
This is super common if you do dont deglaze your inner pot after sauteing foods, like when making Instant Pot Chili or Instant Pot Beef Stew.
After sauteeing anything, turn the Instant Pot OFF. If you have a large cut of meat, like for a roast for pot roast, remove the roast to a separate plate. Add in the thin liquid and scrape up ALL the browned bits on the bottom of the inner pot.
If you get a burn notice and you used the saute feature, remove everything from the inner pot. Clean and dry it well and return the ingredients back to the inner pot and proceed with the recipe.
Mistake #: Objects Stuck Under Inner Pot Above Heating Element
Things get chaotic in the kitchen. Sometimes unwanted food, liquid, or things can get on the heating element without you knowing.
When you unknowingly place the inner pot on top and start cooking, the objects will burn.
We dont have any photos to show you the aftermath, but yessadly weve seen fellow users share their photos of toys & kids socks stuck melted on the heating element.

I Cant Seal My Instant Pot Lid
The pot lid can be tricky to lock and unlock without a little practice. If you are new to your Instant Pot, try moving the lid back and forth from the locked position until you get the hang of it. If you know for sure that your lid isnt locking properly, look for food blockages or a sign of a slipped sealing ring. The lid may also be damaged, but this is relatively rare Instant Pot lids are very tough.
