Ingredient Notes And Shopping Tips
- Beef Stew Meat: Look for meat labeled beef stew meat if possible. If you cant find it, any type of tough, lean meat will do.; Look for cuts with names like Chuck Roast or brisket. These types of meat hold up well in stews.
- Italian Seasoning: Store-bought or homemade.
- Worcestershire Sauce: Look for this fermented condiment near the ketchup.
- Potatoes: I like using White russet potatoes here. Cut potatoes in even chunks to ensure even cooking.
- Beef Broth: Use low sodium so you can season to taste.
- Corn Starch: Dont skip this it helps thicken the stew!

How To Cook Stew With Frozen Beef
To make Pressure Cooker Beef Stew with frozen beef, youll need to add at least 5 minutes to the High Pressure cook time.;
Ideally, youll want your cubed beef to be frozen flat and evenly. If its frozen in a big clump, its much, much harder to ensure the outside and insides are cooked evenly, and youll need to add more minutes to the cook time.
Since frozen beef doesnt brown as evenly, I just skip that part.;
After pressure cooking, you can use an instant-read thermometer and test a few pieces to ensure theyre above 160°F. If not, return the lid and cook at High Pressure a few minutes more.
Do not add the veggies until AFTER the meat is cooked through.

How Long To Pressure Cook Beef Stew
The Instant Pot is a unique multi-cooker that uses pressure and heat to create superheated steam. This;process cooks the food in the enclosed vessel at the high pressure setting anywhere between;239 to 248ºF and;10 to 12 psi .
Because multiple types of ingredients are cooking, I found that 20 minutes at high pressure, followed by releasing the steam naturally for 15 minutes works well. This;method allows the beef to tenderize and vegetables to become more tender but not mushy.
When I served this dish to my family, it disappeared quickly with no leftovers for the next day. It is by far one of my favorite Instant Pot recipes to make. What Meat Is Best For Beef Stew
I often use chuck roast for beef stew recipe, though Ill also use a round steak or rump roast if its on sale. Both cuts are fairly inexpensive, trim up easily, and result in tender beef stew meat.
Really its about personal preference:;
Chuck roast has a little higher fat content than rump roast, which gives you a more flavorful stew.;
Round roasts or rump roasts have less marbling, which can make it easier to trim up each bite to discard the meat.;
Whatever type of roast you use, be sure to dice it into uniform-sized pieces for even cooking.;

It turns out that beef tips are not made from one specific cut of meat but rather can come from a variety of cuts. Sirloin, chuck roast, or another tougher, fattier section of meat is used. The butcher will likely have already cubed these up at your grocery store and labeled them as stew meat or beef tips.
