To cook frozen pork chops in the Instant Pot, skip the step of browning the meat. Sauté the garlic in olive oil and then add the remaining sauce ingredients and frozen pork chops to the pot. Add 2 minutes to the pressure cook time, and increase the natural release time to 10 minutes. Check that the pork chops have reached an internal temperature of 145° F.

You might not have considered making pork chops in the Instant Pot before, but its actually one of the easiest and best ways to cook them. Instead of frying them on the stovetop and making a mess with the splattered grease, put them in the Instant Pot for a no-mess meal.

There are two ways you can make pork chops in the Instant Pot. You can use the saute mode to give them a bit of a sear before pressure cooking them, or if youre in a hurry, you can skip the saute step and just pressure cook.

Either way, they turn out tender and ready to eat in just 30 minutes. I prefer to sear them first because it adds to the flavor and looks more appealing, but if youre going to be serving them with a sauce, it wont make as much of a difference.

  • Pork chops: You will need about 8 bone-in or boneless pork chops. Bone-in might add to the depth of flavour but either one will do!
  • Seasoning: Grated garlic cloves, dried oregano, and dried thyme. Smoked paprika, salt, and pepper. This combination will impart flavour to the meat as well as the gravy.
  • Oil: I prefer to use either olive oil or avocado oil to brown the pork chops.
  • Broth: You can use either a vegetable broth, chicken broth, or any kind you like as long as its low sodium. Red or white wine and a bit of water.
  • Cornstarch: When mixed with cold water to make a cornstarch slurry, it will help thicken it up to a gravy consistency.
  • Garnish: Chopped fresh parsley.

How To Make Gravy In The Instant Pot

  • After the pork chops, and any vegetables, have finished cooking and have been removed from the Instant Pot, press cancel, and then press sauté. This will heat the liquid in the Instant Pot.
  • To thicken the sauce, mix 2 Tablespoons of cornstarch with cold water until the cornstarch is dissolved. Then pour the cornstarch water into the Instant pot and stir until even combined. Continue heating and stir occasionally until the gravy is thickened.
  • Press cancel to turn off the Instant Pot. Remove the inner pot. If you want a creamier gravy, add 1/3 cup sour cream to the gravy.

    Instant Pot Pork Chops With Carrots And Potatoes

  • Turn on sauté mode on the instant pot. Heat 1 Tablespoon oil. Salt and pepper each pork chop on both sides.
  • Sauté pork chops until browned on each side. This will take about 1-2 minutes per side. They do not need to be cooked through. Take pork chops out of instant pot and add in one tablespoon cooking oil.
  • Stir in onions and sauté for two to three minutes.
  • Pour in beef broth and deglaze the pan by scraping off any browned bits off left from the pork chops on the bottom of the pan. Make sure to get anything off the bottom to prevent burning while cooking.
  • Press cancel on instant pot and add in potatoes, carrots, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, and dried mustard powder and stir.
  • Place pork chops on top of potatoes and carrots. Place lid on instant pot. make sure valve is set to the sealing position. Set button to meat/stew for 18 minutes.
  • When timer goes off quick release and serve. Garnish with chopped parsley.
  • Note: Feel free to use an additional pan to sear the pork chops if you dontwant to brown them one by one in the instant pot. This helps the process go by more quickly, but it does add another pan in to the mix.
  • What To Serve With Pork Chops And Mushroom Gravy

    We love to serve this dish over creamy and fluffy Instant Pot mashed potatoes.

    If youre using one Instant Pot, cook the potatoes first. Then cover them tightly with foil while you cook the pork chops and gravy

    If you prefer a grain-based side dish, try easy white rice or brown rice. Thanks to the rich, mushroom-packed sauce, thats all you need to make a complete meal thats filling and satisfying on a chilly night.

    Instant Pot Pork Chops Start With A Good Rub

    For this Instant Pot pork chop recipe, well give it a good rub with some very basic seasonings salt, pepper and brown sugar. After the pork chops are well seasoned on both sides we add some oil to the Instant Pot and add a couple of tablespoons of olive oil. A quick saute on both sides for about 2-3 minutes each will great an nice golden brown color. Then we remove the pork chops from the Instant Pot, add some chicken broth and liquid smoke, scrape the bottom with a wooden spoon. This is called deglazing and adds greatly to the flavor. Place the pork chops directly in the liquid, close up the pot and pressure cook for 10 minutes. Thats it! Let the pressure naturally release for at least 10-15 minutes and youre ready to enjoy.

    What I like most about this Instant Pot pork chop recipe is that its more like a traditional grilled or roasted pork chop. The meat retains some texture without falling apart. Dont get me wrong, the falling apart recipes can be delicious, but like a good steak, sometimes id rather cut a nice juicy piece of meat with a knife and fork and enjoy all the juicy tender goodness. This recipe certainly provides all of that!

    What Do I Need To Make Pork Chops

    Southwest Pork Chops and Gravy in the Instant Pot
    • You will need the following ingredients:
    • Cooking oil: grape-seed oil, canola or vegetable oil will work.
    • Pork chops: A bone-in pork chop will lead to a juicer pork chop. You can also use a boneless pork chops, but it may end up dry.
    • Salt and pepper
    • Worcestershire sauce
    • Beef broth: You can also use chicken broth
    • Potatoes: I used Yukon gold potatoes, but you can use russet potatoes. If using russet potatoes, peel and chop potatoes before adding to the instant pot.
    • Baby carrots: If you dont have baby carrots, you can peel and slice a full-sized carrot
    • Garlic powder
    • Dried mustard powder

    • You can use a 6 quart or 8 quarts Instant Pot or pressure cooker. Both work great. The main difference is that in the larger sized version you can cook/add more meat.
    • Also, it is important for pressure to release naturally. DO NOT do a quick release of the meat when the cooking time is up. It is best for it to do the release naturally, and wait for it for about 10 minutes.
    • You can skip the Honey Garlic Sauce and simply cook without it. However, the sauce is really complimenting this dish nicely, and we love using it.

    • 10-15 minutes natural release time.
    • Then 3-5 minutes to thicken the gravy.

    This means it takes about 40 minutes total, but 25 of those minutes are inactive cooking time, which means you dont have to do anything or be there for any of it. So really, it is about 15-20 minutes of your time to make this amazing dish!
