Should Eggs Be Room Temperature Or From The Fridge

How to Make Hard Boiled Eggs in an Instant Pot | You Can Cook That | Allrecipes.com

This recipe will allow you to hard boil both cold eggs straight from the fridge as well as room temperature eggs. The only difference will be how long the Instant Pot takes to come to pressure. The Instant Pot will take slightly longer to come to pressure before the cooking count down begins with cold eggs.

Instant Pot Vs Stovetop

One of the primary benefits of cooking your eggs in the Instant Pot is that it is a science, not an art.

There is no guessing or eye balling when the water is at the right temperature, wondering when you should set the timer.

Nope, boiling eggs in the Instant Pot is as simple as putting your eggs in a basket, pressing a few buttons, and then waiting for it to do its magic!

How To Hard Boil Eggs In Instant Pot:

  • Place the wire rack in the bowl of the instant pot. Add 1 cup water. Place 2-12 eggs on the rack .
  • Secure the lid and set lever to sealing. Set to manual high pressure and set timer for desired doneness . Once instant pot reaches high pressure , your set timer will automatically start counting down.
  • As soon as your timer is up, use a hot mitt to switch the lever to venting position and a hot burst of steam will release. When pressure is fully released and the pressure indicator has dropped, remove lid, use tongs to transfer the hot eggs to a bowl of ice water and let rest 5 minutes to stop the cooking process.

Important Tips For Using Instant Pot At Higher Altitudes

    • If making Instant Pot Yogurt, you do not need to make adjustments to the recipe.
    • If you are sauteing or thickening a recipe AFTER pressure cook time has elapsed, like in Instant Pot Beef Stew, be sure to watch liquid level carefully, you may need to add in ¼ to ½ cup more liquid, as it will take longer for your recipe to thicken at higher altitude.

Why Did My Eggs Crack During Cooking

    Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs

Make sure you place the eggs on the steaming rack without letting them touch the water. If you put the eggs directly into the water or partially in the water, the eggs might jostle during cooking and crack open. Also, stacking too many eggs can also cause cracking. If you want to cook more eggs in one batch and minimize cracking, investing in an egg rack might be a good idea.

To tell you the truth, if you are as big a fan of boiled eggs as I am, I would invest in an Instant Pot, if only just to make perfect eggs so easily! They are that good and that convenient. And of course, there are so many other great, easy, and delicious dishes you can make using an Instant Pot.

What Are The Best Eggs To Use

I have honestly used all different types of eggs for this method, and they all turn out. Whether you get the cheapest eggs at the store, brown eggs, organic eggs, or even eggs from your backyard chickens, they should turn out. If you are using extra-large eggs, you may need to make a few more adjustments!

    What The Heck Is 5

The first number is how long the eggs actually pressure cook. The second number is how long to leave the eggs in the Instant Pot AFTER theyve cooked, otherwise known as NPR or natural pressure release. And, the final number is how long to put the eggs in a cold water/ice bath.

So, the 5-5-5 method is 5 minutes of cooking, 5 minutes sitting in the IP still under pressure, and 5 minutes in cold water. Same with 6-6-6.

Furthermore, MANY folks swear by these methods. Im not saying they dont work because they obviously do, or people wouldnt keep using and recommending them.

    However

    #1 Theyre unnecessary.

Even if you get great results using these methods, there is a better, faster way! And, Im allllllll about better and faster! Anywhere that I can save time and still get good results, Im in!

#2 They dont always work for farm-fresh eggs.

Ever experienced the massive frustration that is peeling a fresh egg? Its maddening !

The 5-5-5 and 6-6-6 methods dont reliably work on super fresh, from-the-farm eggs. My no-fail method does!

How to Make Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs

Instant Pot multi-function cookers have almost as many new versions as iPhones. Fortunately, you can’t really go wrong with most any of them.

The only version I would avoid is one of the very first models-the Instant Pot Luxe version. It lacks a couple of the basic features I love like the handy slots in the handles to place the hot lid that drains the collected steam back into the pot. See what I’m talking about here. It’s tempting to buy this model because it is often on sale in the big box stores and online.

How to make Hard Boiled Eggs in the Instant Pot

I will never forget my first Easter I spent away from my family.

We were living in Georgia at the time and invited friends over for an Easter Egg hunt and Ham Dinner. While the ham and scalloped potatoes were delicious, the eggs were a complete disaster.

After coloring the eggs, our guests cracked a few open for a snack to find that they were not fully cooked!

But I used the same stove-top method for cooking hard-boiled eggs that I had for years. That method worked MOST of the time, but clearly, it was not fool-proof. And frankly, I became a bit fearful to ever cook hard-boiled eggs again–well at least for company!

How To Cooks Eggs In The Instant Pot

I based my eggs on the popular “5-5-5” method for hard-cooked eggs in the Instant Pot. The idea is to put your eggs into a steamer basket and seal them inside your pressure cooker along with a cup or so of water. It takes about five minutes for the cooker to come up to high pressure, five minutes to cook the eggs, and then five minutes of natural pressure release before removing the eggs from the cookerhence the “5-5-5” method.

I found that this basic formula worked just fine, though it typically takes my pressure cooker closer to 10 minutes before fully pressurizing.

I also decided that I like the texture of 4-minute eggs better than 5-minute eggs. At four minutes, the whites are firm but soft and the yolk is cooked through but still creamy at five minutes, I felt like the whites started to become rubbery and the yolk was a little chalky. Give it a try both ways and see which you prefer.
