After crumbling it, I like to add some spices, to add more flavor to the beef. It tastes just like you would cook it on the stove. If you find the beef to be a bit fry, after you crumble it, you can mix in 1-2 tablespoons of beef broth or chicken broth.

How To Cook A Roast

Pot roast recipes typically call for thawed beef. Since it can take up to a few days to fully thaw a roast, and weve all had those moments where we forgot to take the meat out of the freezer, I decided to find out if you could get incredibly tender roast beef using a frozen roast in the Instant Pot. The answer is a definite yes!

This roast is pull-apart tender and nobody will ever know that you forgot to defrost your roast in advance.

To make it, simply place your trivet in the bottom of the Instant Pot, add the frozen roast, pour the broth over the roast, sprinkle the seasoning over top, add the garlic and onion, cook it, and let it natural release for 30 minutes.

A quick note its important to pour the broth over the frozen roast rather than adding it to the bottom of the pot before adding the roast. The liquid thaws the edge of the roast just enough to allow the seasoning to stick to it. It makes the final result so delicious!

How And Why To Slice Across The Grain

Can you cook a frozen steak in an instantpot?

In the context of meat, the grain refers to the direction that the muscle fibers are aligned.

In the photo of flank steak above, you can see that the fibers run horizontally from side to side. The cut of meat isnt the only determinate in how tender it is, its also HOW you cut the meat. When you cut against the grain you cut through the fibers and shorten them. This makes the meat easier to chew.

    • After the cooking time has finished, do a quick release for the pressure.; Please be careful of the steam while you are doing the pressure release.

What Are The Risks Of Putting Frozen Meat In A Pressure Cooker

In practical terms, the laws of physics dictate that the super-heated steam normally occurring in a pressure cooker cannot be created until the temperature of everything inside the container reaches the boiling point of water .; As a result, the normal advantage of a pressure cooker over other methods in terms of speed is actually lost, and the time expected to prepare frozen meats in a pressure cooker can be anywhere from 50 to 100 percent greater than normal.

Worse, the possibility that the inside of the meat may never thaw completely raises the possibility of serving bacteria-laden food that never reached a high enough temperature to be properly sterilized.

When faced with this problem in other ways of preparation, it is far easier to throw everything back in the pot or the oven than it is to return a pressure cooker to its desired temperature after going to all the trouble of opening it up and finding the food is not yet done on the inside.

Can You Overcook Meat Pressure Cooker

Unfortunately, once you overcook a piece of meat in the pressure cooker, theres no going back. Well, that doesnt just apply to potatoes, it applies to meat, too.

The cooking process for frozen steaks is simple:

  • Sear
  • Season

  • IMPORTANT: There have been some comments about the hot oil/cold steaks causing a kitchen fire. Beware that this is a possibility. The best way to make sure it doesnt happen is to remove the pan from the heat before adding the steaks. However, it is always possible to cause a fire when you have hot oil and high heat and you should do this carefully with an understanding of the risks you are taking for yourself.

Remove the butcher paper and any plastic wrapping from the meat. Set the meat inside the inner pot and sprinkle some good onion soup mix on top. I like to make my own onion soup mix with dried onion and a handful of spices I have on hand like garlic powder, celery salt and turmeric. For each pound of meat, use one Tablespoon of seasoning. Since my steak is nearly three pounds, I am using 3 Tablespoons.
