So, besides running the Duo Classic vs Duo Nova comparison, I thought it would be best to talk about the other Instant Pot pressure cookers that are usually associated with the Duo and Duo Nova models.

Instant Pot Ultra is one of the electric pressure cookers that comes to mind when you want a modern product with lots of smart programs . Its most popular design is the 6 quart Instant Pot, but it also comes in the 3 qt and 8 qt sizes, just like the Duo and Duo Nova or Instant Pot Lux. What makes the Instant Pot Ultra more noticeable is the large display and selection system . Furthermore, Ultra also has a cooking progress indicator, which may earn some admiration from beginners who cant yet pressure cook or slow cook without worrying.

The Duo SV 60 cleans like a dream. For instance, the lid and the inner pot are dishwasher safe. In short, if you feel indifferent to hand washing, you always have the easier option.

Ways To Tell What Size Instant Pot You Have
If its been a while since you purchased your Instant Pot, its easy to forget what size Instant Pot you have. Here are 3 easy ways to tell which one you have.
Maybe you purchased your Instant Pot a while ago, received it as a gift, or picked it up at a garage sale or charity shop. How many quarts your Instant Pot is, isnt really something top of mind, until you realize you have no idea how many quarts it is.
The quarts in your Instant Pot isnt something stamped on the front. Its not readily obvious where to find this information unless you still have the original box or receipt handy.

The most popular Instant Pot size is 6 quarts. Its also the size most of the Instant Pot models are available in.
Currently, there are 4 Instant Pots sizes available:

Instant Pot Pro Versus Max
The biggest claim to fame of the Instant Pot Max is its canning feature. The Instant Pot Pro Plus is the only other model that is able to do canning. The trade-off is that the Max doesnt do Sous Vide, while the Pro does. Youll need to weigh your priorities to figure out which feature is more important. The Instant Pot Pro also comes with 28 one-touch smart cooking programs, which blows the 15 of the Max out of the water. Its a close race between these two models, so it will definitely boil down to your priorities.
Take Out A Tape Measure And Check The Dimensions
If youre up for a little more work, then pull out a tape measure and check the actual dimensions of your Instant Pot.
Simply measure across the top of your Instant Pot from handle-to-handle:
- 3 quart Instant Pots are just under 12 inches wide.
- 6 Quart Instant Pots are about 13 inches across
- 8 Quart Instant Pots are a little more than 14 inches wide
- 10 Quart Instant Pots are just under 17 inches wide.
If you have an older model Instant Pot, its possible you have a 5 quart electric pressure cooker. It was originally available as a Lux or Duo.

Instant Pot Smart Wifi
The Instant Pot Smart WiFi pairs with your smartphone, so you can see whats going on in your Instant Pot from anywhere! My favorite thing about using it is being able to tell exactly how hot it is inside the pot.
In all other respects, it functions very similarly to the Duo Plus.

Which Model Is Better For Me
As promised, I will try and define a category of best users for each of these two Instant Pot models . In my opinion, they both do an amazing job, especially since there is no fancy interface to decipher.
Furthermore, the Instant Pot Duo community is quite large and very supportive, so its easy to find help when something doesnt seem right . And, when youre ready to experiment, youll find lots of cool recipes that you wouldnt even dream about cooking in an Instant Pot Duo or Duo Nova!
Still, its important to mention that none of these two Instant Pot models have a sous vide function nor can they make air fries . If sous vide is important for you, its best to choose an Instant Pot Duo Plus or an Instant Pot Duo Evo Plus. Also, if you are looking for a heavy-duty air fryer , its best to consider a stand-alone product or an Instant Pot Duo Crisp + Air Fryer .
So, without further ado, here is my opinion on each:
Choose the DUO if…
- You want a tried and tested pressure cooker thats admired by many satisfied customers
- You like a user-friendly interface thats easy to understand
- You want the support of a powerful global community
- You are used to working with an electric multicooker
Choose the DUO Nova if…
- You are just starting your journey with a multicooker
- You dont want an electric pressure cooker with a manual steam release valve
- You like the upgraded lid and find it extremely useful
- The new control panel seems easier to understand and use

Check The Sticker On The Back Of Your Instant Pot
There is a sticker on the back of your Instant Pot with a few pieces of useful information on it. Be warned, the type is a little small so you may need bright light and a magnifying glass to read it clearly.
On this sticker is both the model name and number of quarts of your specific Instant Pot. Look for the Volume line below the Model name. Its about the 3rd line down from the Instant Pot logo.
If you havent turned your Instant Pot around recently, the sticker wouldnt be something youll notice unless youre specifically looking for it.
Instant Pot Parts And Accessories
The Instant Pot comes with the following main parts and accessories:
- Base unit/Outer Pot stainless steel exterior that houses the heating element, control panel, and detachable power cord.
- Lid closes the Instant Pot and seals it under pressure. The lid can be washed in the top rack of the dishwasher or by hand with soap and water.
- Inner pot removable stainless steel pot that is also stove-friendly, so you can use it on your stovetop as you would a regular pot. It can be washed in the dishwasher or by hand.
- Condensation Collector catches drips from condensation on the lid attaches onto the back of the base unit. Can be washed in the top rack of the dishwasher or by hand.
- Power cord the 3-prong detachable power cord is plugged into the back of the Instant Pot Duo.
- Accessories spoons, measuring cup, and trivet. The trivet is useful for elevating food above the liquid and for Pot in Pot cooking. The trivet can be washed in the dishwasher or by hand.
