About A Mind Full Mom

A Mind “Full” Mom started as a way to fill YOUR mind with easy, whole food, family-approved recipes. My mind was just “full” of ideas I wanted to share with you–hence the play on the word mindful.

A Mind “Full” Mom has evolved over time, but the focus is still the same–Real foods for real families on real budgets.

I share simple, wholesome recipes that are not made with fancy ingredients or make your kids run for the hills. These are tried and true recipes that please my kids and my VERY picky husband.

A lot of the recipes you will find here are classic recipes given a face-lift with more wholesome ingredients–no high fructose corn syrup, hydrogenated oil, food colorings, or msg. I do opt for whole grains over white flour and natural sugars over granulated sugar, but I do believe they have their time and place in moderation–like Cut Out Sugar Cookies.

Ive seem many recipes for Instant Pot eggs, but none of them share the exact same cooking time.

In general, if youve followed the recipe but did not achieve your desired results, simply add 1 to 2 minutes to get a more cooked egg, or decrease by 1 to 2 minutes to get a softer egg. Test until you achieve the texture you prefer.

  • Prep: Add 1 cup of water to your Instant pot then add the metal trivet inside. Your Instant Pot should have come with a metal trivet.
  • Arrange eggs: Place the eggs on top of the trivet. I have a 6 QT IP and I can easily fit 12 eggs on the trivet. You can make as many as 1 or to however many you can fit in your IP. Secure the lid onto the pot and make sure to turn the vent at the top of the IP to the Sealing Position.
  • Cook: Press the Manual button on the IP then the – sign to lower the time to 5 minutes.
  • Pressure release: Once the Instant Pot cycle is complete, wait 5 minutes for natural release then use quick release, placing a towel over the valve so steam doesnt get everywhere. Carefully unlock and remove the lid from the instant pot.
  • Shock: Transfer the eggs to a bowl with ice water and let them sit for 5 minutes. Doing this stops the eggs from cooking further. After 5 minutes peel and enjoy!

    Why Use An Ice Bath

The ice bath will cool the eggs immediately so they wont keep cooking in the residual heat. Plus, the eggs will be shocked, which makes them very easy to peel.

What if you dont have ice? No problem at all! Simply run the eggs under cold tap water for 1 to 2 minutes, until they are cooled enough to peel. The eggs might be slightly easier to peel using the ice bath method, but the tap water method is a lazy one that I use all the time.

How Do You Do Natural Release On Instant Pot

Natural release just simply means not opening the valve for a quick release of pressure. Instead, once the instant pot has stopped cooking, let it sit untouched so the pressure can release naturally. This usually takes anywhere from 15-25 minutes depending on the contents. In this Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs recipe, I let the eggs naturally release for a few minutes and then release the rest of the pressure.

While your eggs are cooking youll want to prepare an ice bath. Just fill a bowl with ice cubes and then add cold water. Once cooked youre going to plunge your eggs into the ice bath which stops them from overcooking. When your hardboiled eggs are overcooked is when you start seeing that grey ring around the yolk plus the whites can take on a chewier texture . I leave them in the ice bath at least 5-10 minutes .

Voila, perfect eggs in seconds without overcooking them. Firm yet creamy yolks, perfect whites. These are great for Easter egg decorating , for deviled eggs or even to slice up and place on a Spinach Salad. The perfect on the go snack for any time of day!

One Caveat To Pressure Cooker Eggs

The BEST Instant Pot Hard Boiled Eggs ⢠Domestic Superhero

The only un-perfect thing about this way of hard boiling eggs is that, every so often, one of the eggs will crack its shell during cooking. When this has happened to me, it’s usually been during the 5 minute “natural release” period after the eggs are already cooked, so the crack is only superficially cosmetic. Not ideal if you’re planning to dye a bunch of Easter eggs, of course, but perfectly fine for deviled eggs.

If your eggs seem to be cracking more often, or are cracking before the whites are set, try cooking them at low pressure instead of high pressure. My own tests at low pressure gave inconsistent results. But every pressure cooker is a little different, and you might have better luck with yours.

The jury is still out on unicorns and affordable airfare. But easy-to-peel eggs? At least they are real.

Older eggs will turn out prettier. When you purchase eggs from the store, they are usually about a week old. However, the older an egg is, the easier it is to peel.

Adding too many eggs to your pot can make it so they dont cook properly. The water temperature could drop too much when you add them to the water.

Depending on your burners and how hot they get, could determine how long it takes to boil your eggs. Its important to experiment at first and not get frustrated if your boiled eggs doing turn out exactly like you hoped the first time!

The process for cooking frozen chicken is not much different than cooking thawed or fresh chicken breast. But there are 2 things to keep in mind.

    • You will need to add 4 minutes to the cooking time.
    • If your chicken breasts are frozen together, I suggest placing them in a bowl of cold water for a couple of minutes until you can break them apart into individual breasts. They need to be separated, not frozen together, or you will end up with chicken that is not cooked evenly.
