Which Model Is Better
Without taking the price into account, the Duo is the better model. It has more functionality and a few extra perks that make cooking faster and easier, like additional cooking programs, a better steaming rack, an easier-to-use lid and steam release valve, and a place to set the cover while cooking.
In cases where the price doesnt matter, the Duo is frankly the better model. It has more functionality and a few extra perks that make cooking a walk in the park. The Duos bonuses include additional cooking programs, a better steaming rack, an easier-to-use lid and steam release mechanism, as well as a place to set the cover while cooking.
Most of the time, Duo products cost around $20 more than average Lux products. The base-model brushed steel 3-quart Lux comes in at $65, while the 3-quart Duo costs $80. You can expect to pay $80 for the 6-quart Lux product, while the 6-quart Duo is $100. Finally, the 8-quart Lux has a price tag of $110, and the 8-quart Duo will cost you around $140.
Duo has countless phenomenal bonus features, but both products are very close if you look closely at the cost. Nonetheless, we want to point out that the Duo will typically go on sale eventually, so be on the lookout. There are loads of yearly deals in shops across the country that you can check out that are sure to get you a great discount on Duo products. We urge you to purchase the Duo if you have the opportunity to snag a good deal.

The Main Competitors Of This Model:
This model has quite a few competitors which we might divide based on several perspectives. Let us do that without further ado.
From the perspective of functionality, the greatest competitor of this model are the other Instant Pot Models
Besides that, the Power Pressure Cooker XL and Fagor are also important competitors.
From the perspective of someone who is economically selective, the main competitors of this model are the other economically preferred pressure cookers such as the Fagor LUX and Cuisinart CPC-600. If you are looking at economic pressure cookers, you might also want to take a look at those.
Finally, the right pressure cooker for you is entirely dependent on your specific needs. So keep them in mind, have your priorities sorted out and select wisely to get the most out of your investment. Corrie Cooks wishes you best of luck for all of your future purchases.
Instant Pot Frequently Asked Questions

Because of my Instant Pot Duo pressure cooker recommendation, I get email with questions about how to use Instant Pot cookers. This post is to put them in one place, so I can refer everyone to it. So, here we go: Instant Pot Questions and Answers. If you have a question I didnt cover, leave a comment, and Ill do my best to answer.
Q: All your recipes say cook at high pressure for X minutes. My Instant Pot does not have a high pressure button. How do I get high pressure on the Instant Pot?
A: Use the “Manual” or “Pressure Cook” button and set the pot for X minutes. On older Instant Pots, the Manual button means pressure cooking. On newer pots, there is an actual Pressure Cook button.
The default for both of those buttons is High Pressure. Press the “Manual” or “Pressure Cook” button, and check to make sure the pressure level shows as “High” in the display. If it does not, press the Pressure Level button until it shows high. Then, use the plus and minus buttons to change the cooking time to the “at high pressure time”. . Once the time is set, leave the cooker alone. After ten seconds of no buttons being pushed, the cooker will beep, and it will start cooking. Then, let the cooker do the work. It will bring itself up to high pressure and start the countdown timer. When the countdown reaches zero, it will beep to let you know it is done.

Variety of Cooking Choices
Quart Instant Pot Vs 8 Quart Instant Pot
If you have a large family you may be debating between the 6 quart Instant Pot and the 8 quart Instant Pot when deciding which Instant Pot to buy.
There are 6 people in my family, and I find that the 6 quart size has been roomy enough.
The 8 Quart Instant Pot IP-DUO80 is roomier but there are a few things to consider when choosing between the 6 or 8 qt Instant Pot. The 8 quart unit is
- taller so you won’t have much space between your upper cabinets and your Instant Pot. When you use the Quick Release function, you will have to move the Instant Pot slightly to direct the steam away from the upper cabinets.
- more expensive currently the price on Amazon is $204.99 which is more than twice the Instant Pot IP-DUO60.
- not as common. So, it will be harder to find accessories and recipes that fit this size.
If you feel that the 6 quart will be too small, and you have the space in your kitchen, you may want to consider getting two 6-quart Instant Pots instead of the 8-quart.
The cost will still be less, and you have the option of cooking two different dishes at once .

What Size Would I Recommend
Personally, just like when I choose and recommend Dutch ovens, I always tell people that they should consider the next size up to what they think they need. This is a life saver when you have guests coming but also, it lets me cook food and freeze it. Since I am making it anyway, I just think it is efficient to cook more and freeze it.
Trust me when I say that this can make your life so much easierespecially if you work and have a family.

Ease Of Use And Performance
Both devices are very user-friendly and they both perform well. Small differences, like the handle design and steam release valve, make the Duo slightly easier to use.
In spite of the different cooking programs, we have yet to find anything we can cook in the Duo that we cant cook in the Lux . Once you know what youre doing, you can create virtually any Instant Pot recipe in either the Lux or the Duo as long as you have a large enough model for that specific recipe.

The Numbers At The End Of The Model
We will be talking size soon, but I want to mention that as you look through the Instant Pot Models, you will see a number at end of each model style. This number indicates the size of the Instant Pot.
The same holds true for the Instant Pot IP-LUX series. However, at this time I believe that the Instant Pot IP-LUX60 v3 is the only one in this series that has been updated to include the Cake and Egg setting.
More Than A Pressure Cooker
One of the most significant differences with the instant pot 7-in-1 vs. 6-in-1 is the functions. These machines dont just pressure cook. They do many things. The IP-Duo60 is a 7-in-1 multiple cooker: pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice cooker, saute/browning, yogurt maker, steamer & warmer. The IP-Lux60 is a 6-in-1 multi-cooker and can perform the same cooking functions as the Duo60 except for yogurt making. The yogurt maker option is fantastic and is one of the biggest difference-makers between the two.

Which Instant Pot Buttons To Use

SO MANY BUTTONS! How to use Insta Pot is a top Google search. If you own an Instant Pot electric pressure cooker and want to know what each button does and when to use it, my complete guide will tell you everything you need to know about using the Instant Pot buttons for every model and version!
If youre just getting started with your Instant Pot, your first question might be How do I know which Instant Pot buttons to use? Heres a detailed explanation that will help.
The most important thing to know is the buttons are just preset, suggested cook times for specific items. If you use the Poultry button, your Instant Pot will not know how much meat is in the pot or whether its frozen or fresh. Your Instant Pot CANNOT sense what you are actuallycooking and CANNOT tell you when the food in your pot is cooked through.
So when youre cooking chicken soup, you can use the Soup button, the Poultry button, the Meat button, or the Manual button It really doesnt matter which button you use, just choose the button with the closest cook time to the time in the recipe youre using .
How Do I Cook On High In Manual Mode With My Ip
I just got it for Christmas and noticed that a lot of the recipes I find online say something like “set to Manual and cook on high for 10 minutes”, etc. But when I use Manual mode, I can’t use the buttons that say “less/ normal/more” which I assume translate to “low/medium/high”. If I switch to one of the custom buttons, say, the Stew button, THEN I can press the adjust button and the + button to switch to “more” . But again, a lot of the recipes I see say to use manual on high.
How do I get around this problem? Does anyone know what it defaults to if I use Manual – less, normal, or high? Those buttons simply don’t light up in Manual mode, so I don’t even know what it defaults to.
I have searched online for this answer but can’t seem to find a straight answer! Arrggh…
