My Popcorn Isnt Popping

instant pot popcorn (3 of 12)

Trust me it happened to me thrice before I was successful the fourth time.

  • First time only 20% kernels popped
  • Second time, soaked kernels for 10 minutes, 40% popped.
  • Third time soaked kernels for 20 minutes, 60% popped.
  • Fourth time, successful results. I changed the store and brand of the kernels.

Observation If the kernels arent popping it could be because the quality of the kernels isnt good.

When kernels dont have enough moisture, they dont pop. Sometimes if a batch it too old or dry the kernels wont pop. Kernels pop when the water vapor inside them increases pressure enough to rupture the hull. The kernels need the right amount of moisture in them to pop, which is about 14%. How do you know how good the kernels are? You can either give it a couple attempts and you will know of you can calculate the moisture of your kernels, using this experiment by Mother Earth News.

How To Make Kettle Corn

I don’t know about you, but I crave this classic fair food year round. Learn to make sweet and salty kettle corn in your own home using this Kettle Corn recipe. You can use either white sugar or brown sugar depending on your taste: “If you use white sugar, it will taste like popcorn balls and if you use brown sugar, it will taste like caramel corn,” says recipe creator SUE202.

Here’s What You’ll Need:

Instructions:

  • Heat the vegetable oil in a large pot over medium heat. Once the oil is hot, stir in the sugar and popcorn. Some reviewers suggest heating a few kernels with the oil, and when they pop you know the oil is hot.
  • Cover the pot with a lid and shake the pot constantly to keep the sugar from burning. Once the popping has slowed to once every 2 seconds, remove it from the heat.
  • Continue to shake for a few minutes until the popping has completely stopped.
  • Pour into a large bowl, and allow to cool. Stir occasionally to break up large clumps.
  • Is Microwave Popcorn The Same As Air Popped

While microwave popcorn is typically higher in calories and sodium than the air popped variety, the main reason its less healthy is that it often contains trans fats.

    • This one is a bit different than a typical air popper but still uses a similar method where by its made with very hot steam. .

Try all 3 methods and decide for yourself which one you like best

Part of why we love this is the taste. The other benefit is it is fun for the kids to make with me in the kitchen. Using the glass lid allows them to see it popping right before their very eyes which makes them smile.

Can You Put Microwave Popcorn In An Air Fryer

When buying corn to make in an air fryer, make sure it is regular corn and not the treated kind. Some people may think that microwave popcorn can be made in the air fryer, but this isnt true. An air fryer will never give a good result with such treated popcorn.

The best way to go is to preheat the air fryer a little. It also needs a constant check to make sure the corn doesnt burn inside. No one wants food which smells like it was burned. With this method, one has to be patient because air fryers take their time but the end result is excellent because the taste is retained.

Flavor Options For Instant Pot Popcorn

How to Make Instant Pot Popcorn

While the gold old salted popcorn is the best go-to choice of popcorn any day for me, there are times when family calls it boring. For days when you get bored of salted popcorn, oomph up your popcorn with some flavors.

Certain flavor combinations are simply amazing. Like golden yellow intensely buttery movie popcorn or dark golden brown colored caramel popcorn.

Options to flavor popcorns dont stop there.

We have some more unique and interesting flavors for you guys to try.

    • Chili and lime chili powder along with fresh grated lime zest adds to popcorn a hint of heat and the zing from the zest.
    • Sriracha and butter Melted butter drizzled over popcorn along with sriracha sauce gives you spicy, sticky popcorn. My personal favorite.
    • Cinnamon and honey Imagine a lighter version of caramel popcorn. No this doesnt resemble anything to caramel popcorn. But the sweetness of the honey and the cinnamon powder for warm and cozy feel reminded me of caramel popcorn for some reason.

Other flavor combinations that you can try are

Garlic Herb Melted butter, minced garlic, finely chopped fresh rosemary, sage and thyme. Cook them in melted butter and drizzle over popcorn.

Three cheese 2 portions of cheddar, 1 portion of Parmesan, ½ portion of pecorino. Grate all 2 cheese sprinkle over popcorn spread over baking tray. Bake at 350 F until cheese melts.

Homemade Popcorn can definitely be a healthy snack if you don’t slather it in butter and if it’s lightly seasoned. It’s whole grains, high in fiber and antioxidants. Although air-popped popcorn is the healthiest as it does not use any oil at all, popping it in oil, however, is a great way to consume a healthy portion of fat to control hunger. If you wisely manage your portion sizes, homemade popcorn can be your perfect midday snack.

If your popcorn isnt popping in the first 5-6 minutes, something is wrong. Here are some common reasons your pressure cooker popcorn may not turn out.

    • You used the wrong kind of oil.
    • Your Instant Pot is not heating evenly and consistently.
    • Try increasing the heat. After you press the Saute button, choose the more button . Not all models have this feature, so double check your manual just in case. Newer models allow you to increase the heat by pressing the Saute button.
    • If only some kernels arent popping, carefully try shaking your Instant Pot to get the unpopped kernels to the bottom.
    • Your popcorn may be bad. Popping corn that has been exposed to moisture will not pop. Be sure to store unpopped corn in an airtight container to avoid moisture.

I first got into popcorn in the same way that most of us do. With a trip to the cinema. A night out with friends, a trip on my own or a romantic night out with my man.

No matter how I did it there would always been a delicious tub of popcorn.

When you visit the cinema you can always hear the noise of everyones popcorn and it becomes an noise that you associate with a night out.

Ive seen an endless supply of movies at the cinema. I am a huge movie addict and have a collection of more than 300 DVDs at home and long before that I owned videos.

The first movie that I went to see on my own with popcorn in hand was Toy Story. I was away camping with my parents in their RV in this boring Eastern England town.

There was nothing to do for 12 year olds and I went off exploring with my pocket money.

I ended up getting the XL portion of popcorn and eating it all to myself as I watched Woody come to life on the big screen.

Not that I can remember what the second one was but the love for popcorn had begun.

So much cheaper and good fun too.
