Do I Have To Use A Steamer Basket Can The Baby Potatoes Be Cooked Directly In The Instant Pot Steel Insert
You can absolutely cook the baby potatoes in the instant pot steel insert directly. I just prefer this method as it means less cleaning effort. Do not use “Steam” mode if cooking directly in the pot, as it ;increases the temperature too quickly and is designed for cooking when the food is not in contact with the base of the pot. Use “pressure cook” mode .
Want to make a baby potato side dish, try Garlic Chili Potatoes or this one-pot Spicy Bombay Potatoes recipe where I cook the baby potatoes right in the instant pot steel insert.
Another great way to use these steamed baby potatoes is making these delicious Tandoori Aloo Tikka.

What Can I Put Into The Mashed Potatoes
This recipe is great because of the things that I put into the mashed potatoes. I love putting in salt, heavy cream, butter, and garlic powder in the potatoes to add some great flavor and creamy texture to the potatoes. Also, adding gravy on top of it is to die for.
Ive also used sour cream and some roasted garlic at times too. Feel free to add other things to the recipe to make it your own. But I wouldnt add much more than these things, otherwise the flavor would be too much or the texture would be either too creamy or watery.

Fortunately for me, my dad was sweet enough to spend the time to make a big pot of homemade mashed potatoes.; You have to patiently bring to a boil a large pot of water and then wait for the potatoes cook.
Since patience is not a virtue of mine, I decided to bring back an old favorite.; However this time I would pressure cook the potatoes!

Can I Steam Potatoes Without A Trivet
If you want to boil potatoes while cooking something else in the main pot, then I suggest to use the mode needed for what you are cooking in the main pot. The Steam function works best when food is being steamed on a trivet. It increases the temperature inside the pot very fast, as it does not expect to have any food directly in contact with the bottom of the pot.
How To Steam Diced Potatoes In The Instant Pot
For diced russet potatoes about 1 inch in size, pressure cook for 3 minutes when using a steamer basket. If you are cooking them in the main pot, just 1 minute on pressure cook mode will be enough.

After pressure cooking, coat them in melted butter, garlic, and herbs, sprinkle them with Parmesan cheese, and crisp them up to browned perfection. This simple, flavor-packed side dish will steal the show at your next meal!
Its Jenn again! Roasted red potatoes are a classic side dish, thanks to their creamy texture. While a traditional oven-roasted red potato recipe would take up to 60 minutes in the oven, this pressure cooker version goes from prep to table in under 20 minutes.;
A friend of mine posted this Oven-Roasted Red Potato video the other day, which got me craving red potatoes. I adapted my moms Garlic and Parsley Red Potatoes with the seasonings in my mother-in-laws Garlic Parmesan red potato recipe. Then we finished them under the broiler to get the crisp texture my family loves.
We served them with a simple grilled chicken, and everyone took seconds and thirdsits that tasty!;
Timing In An Instant Pot Vs Stovetop Pressure Cooker
Instant Pot and other electric pressure cookers take longer to heat up than stovetop pressure cookers. Therefore, the cooking time for potatoes in a stovetop pressure cooker may be different than the time 3 minutes under pressure we offer for the Instant Pot. A traditional stovetop pressure cooker can reach a PSI level of up to 15, while the Instant Pot tops out at 12 PSI. So, although the Instant Pot takes longer to heat up, it also takes a little longer for food to cook vs. regular stovetop pressure cookers.

Instant Pot Potatoes With Herb Butter
I love potatoes! The most versatile vegetable I know of. Roasted potatoes are my favorite. You can get the flavor of roasted potatoes when you make Instant Pot Potatoes with Herb Butter. They are delicious!
I know that this is not the same and oven roasting, which is a dry environment. Crisping the potatoes up after pressure cooking is an option, so you can get some of the outsides browned. But that isnt absolutely necessary for a delicious outcome.
I like to use a combination of small red and gold potatoes . You can use all gold or all red if you like.
Its nice to use fresh rosemary to flavor these pressure cooker potatoes, but I use dry rosemary when I dont have the fresh, and they still come out delicious! I do use dry basil, as it holds up better in the pressure cooker.
You might be wondering why I only use 1/2 cup of liquid in this recipe. The short answer is that in a 6 qt or a 3 qt pressure cooker 1/2 cup of liquid is enough to bring it to pressure.
If you are using a 8 qt pressure cooker, increase the liquid to about 3/4 cup. If it wont come to pressure with that amount, bump it up to 1 cup. We are trying to get away with as little liquid as possible.
What Can I Make With Boiled Potatoes
Boiled potatoes are like a blank canvas for a number of different recipes.

How to Boil or Steam Potatoes in the Instant Pot? This is part of the Instant Pot Cooking Basics series. Potatoes are perfect to steam in a pressure cooker, and it takes less than 30 minutes to get perfectly cooked potatoes.;I use boiled potatoes in many dishes, such as potato peas curry, spiced mashed potatoes.
I had always boiled potatoes in my stovetop pressure cooker, however it did need some monitoring. With the instant pot, just set the time and do a natural pressure release, while I can do other chores.
Having pre-boiled potatoes at hand is great for meal planning. I can then use them as needed to make quick meals. Some interesting indian dishes you can make with boiled potatoes:
- Mumbai Vada Pav;which is the popular Indian style burger.
- Savory Potato Puffs – This is very similar to the paneer puffs I have shared before. Just use boiled potatoes in place of paneer.

Before I got the Instant Pot digital pressure cooker, I used my slow cooker to make baked potatoes. Its a great way to cook them if you dont have a pressure cooker. Do Potatoes Get Mushy In Instant Pot
Long story short, your potatoes wont get mushy in the Instant Pot as long as theyre only cooked for 2 minutes. Any longer, the potatoes will begin to lose their form and begin to get mushy in texture. Using a different potato like a russet potato will give you a varied, softer result so I would recommend sticking to red potatoes or the other ones listed in the substitutions above.

Can I Cook Potatoes Without A Trivet
Yes, but I recommend cooking only baby potatoes without a trivet since baby potatoes cook in a shorter amount of time and don’t absorb much of the water.
The larger potatoes, on the other hand, need more time to cook through. If you place the potatoes directly in the bottom of the pot with the water, it will alter the taste and texture.
A Delicious Side Made In The Instant Pot
Red potatoes are not only delicious, theyre good for you too! I love that this recipe is not only super flavorful, but quick and easy. Another instant pot wonder.
Red potatoes contain less fiber and calories than russet potatoes. They may also contain more essential vitamins and more protein! Really any potato is delicious and are just about the same, but I love the thin tasty skin on these.
