Ingredients needed:

4-8 large apples .

Note: Use more acidic apples if you prefer a finer puree

1 cup of water 1 teaspoon of cinnamon for flavouring 1 teaspoon of lemon zest

Instructions:

1.) After rinsing the apples, carefully cut them into medium-large chunks. For maximum fiber, it is recommended to leave the skin on . Make sure to discard the seeds, stem, and core.

2.) Place the apple chunks into the inner pot, along with a cup of water. Adding a teaspoon of lemon zest will help to slow down oxidation. If desired, one teaspoon of cinnamon can be added for additional flavour.

3.) Close the lid of the Instant Pot, making sure the steam vent is sealed. Using manual mode, you want to set the cooker for 7 to 8 minutes under high pressure.

Note: If you prefer a chunkier applesauce, go for 7 minutes

4.) Enjoy the day for the next 7 to 8 minutes

5.) Once the cooking is down, let the Instant Pot sit for a couple of minutes before manually releasing the steam. Once the steam has dissipated, you can open the lid.

6.) In the case that there is excess water in the applesauce, drain and remove

8.) Scoop out the applesauce and place it into containers such as Mason jars. Done!

How To Cook And Blend Apple Sauce

  • Place the cover on your pressure cooker, and make sure it’s set to SEAL. Cook on HIGH for 25 minutes.
  • When it’s done, release the pressure and remove the cover. Use a hand masher or immersion blender to blend until desired consistency. If you want it on the chunkier side, don’t fully puree the mixture.
  • Let it cool for a bit, then add to a mason jar or a glass container. Place in the refrigerator until you’re ready to serve! Enjoy!

    How To Use Your Instant Pot

    If youre new to using the Instant Pot, the main thing you need to know is how to cook on manual and whether your recipe calls for a natural release or a quick release. This Instant Pot recipe includes step-by-step directions below, but these photos also help to give you an idea of what your machine should look like during the process.

    My 6-quart Instant Pot is older, so it has a Manual button that I use to pressure cook. Newer models have a button that says Pressure Cook instead, but both buttons do the same thing. For this recipe, were cooking at high pressure for 10 minutes.

    The Instant Pot will take 6 to 10 minutes to come to pressure, and the cook cycle countdown doesnt start until the pot is pressurized. You can tell the pot is pressurized when the floating valve in the lid has popped up.

    This recipe calls for a 10 minute natural release. When 10 minutes has passed, the screen on the Instant Pot will read LO:10, and thats when you can move the steam release valve to Venting. Any remaining steam pressure will release through the top of that valve, and when the floating valve next to it drops, thats when you know its safe to remove the lid.

    Do You Need To Peel The Apples

    Yes. For a silky-smooth applesauce, you should peel the apples and cut them into quarters before adding to your pressure cooker.

    If you have a high-power blender, you may be able to get away without peeling the apples. Apple skins have a lot of nutritional value. They are full of vitamins and antioxidants, so I understand the appeal of wanting to use the skins.

    However, if your apples have pretty thick skins or your blender isnt powerful enough, it will probably just end up in chunks in the sauce, which is definitely not what youre looking for.

    To Peel Or Not To Peel

    This concept is new to me, I would have never considered not peeling my apples for applesauce, but guess what, in the pressure cooker, IT WORKS!

    The high-intensity cooking softens the peels so nicely that they blend right up.

    Bonus: you are getting all the fiber and nutrients from the peel and saving yourself a lot of prep time.

    The downside to not peeling however, the color isn’t as pure and if you are planning on leaving it chunky vs pureeing it, the texture will be a bit off.

    If you plan on leaving your applesauce chunky, I HIGHLY suggest peeling the apples first.

    If you are going to blend it, go ahead and leave those peels on!

    About This Instant Pot Applesauce:

    How to Make Instant Pot Applesauce

    Why cook applesauce in the Instant Pot? For me, convenience is the obvious reason. Peel and cut up a bunch of apples , put them into the pressure cooker with a little water or juice, turn it on, and forget about it for awhile. No watching to make sure the apples arent boiling over, trying to adjust the heat so the apples simmer just right, no stirring, no checking for doneness, no messy stove, and only one dishwasher safe pan to wash! It really doesnt get much easier.;

    One of the questions I get asked is whether you need to peel the apples first. Like I described above, if you use unpeeled apples, you will need a food mill to process the cooked apple mixture. The end result will be a smooth applesauce. You can also puree it with a stick blender , but it will change the texture of the applesauce.

    I like to peel my apples first , cut and core them, and cook them. This results in an applesauce with a chunkier texture and does not require a food mill.;

    After the applesauce cools a bit, stir in a teaspoon or two of cinnamon. Yum! I didnt add any sugarit simply isnt needed. Serve it warm, room temp, or cold.;

    Applesauce is a healthy and delicious dessert or snack: Whole30 compliant, vegan, non-dairy, gluten-free, non-fat, and low in calories. Its so delicious, your family will love it!

    If the only applesauce youve ever had is the kind you buy in the grocery store, you are in for a wonderful surprise. Store bought applesauce pales in comparison to homemade.;;

    Can I Use Sugar Instead Of Honey

    Yes, you can, but I prefer honey because I love the way it complements the taste of the apples and cinnamon. Plus, honey is typically more natural and less processed than granulated sugar.

    If youre looking for a lower sugar content, you can leave the honey or sugar out altogether. Especially if your apples are particularly sweet!

    The other day, after finding the 10th half eaten apple laying around the house, I put my beloved appliance to the task of making homemade applesauce.

    I made the whole process super easy by using a stainless steel food mill. With this method you can throw the apples straight into the instant pot without peeling, coring and cutting them. I also love this method because the applesauce has a nice smooth consistency once it has gone through the mill.

    Of course, if you do not have a food mill, you can use them same process but peel, core and cut the apples into chunks prior to cooking.
