When Is It Safe To Open Instant Pot

How to deep clean your Instant Pot Putting the Instant Pot lid in the dishwasher?

When I first got my Instant Pot I was both scared and confused. One of the biggest questions during my trial run of using the machine was when do we know if safe to open?

Every Instant Pot has a float valve. Its a metal tip that is often dipped inside the black plastic top of the lid.

When the Instant Pot valve is up and in line with the rest of the plastic the Instant Pot is fully pressurized and can not be opened a safety feature prevents it. Once this valve is down and clicks it is safe to open your Instant Pot.

Cleaning The Condensation Collector

The condensation collector is a small plastic cup that hangs on the outside of the Instant Pot. It is not necessary to wash after every use, as it may not have accumulated much liquid. It may be hand washed or placed on the top rack of the dishwasher.

For more tips on cleaning the Instant Pot, visit the manufacturer’s official website.

How Often Should I Clean My Instant Pot

To avoid the build-up of food and nasty smells, all pieces of the Instant Pot that encounter any food should be washed and cleaned after every use. This includes the inner cooking pot, steam rack, lid components, the sealing ring, the valve, and the anti-block shield.

The exterior pot can be cleaned occasionally or as needed. Cleaning the Instant Pot after each use is good practice. Not cleaning it could attract all sorts of unwanted bugs and rodents into your kitchen.

Deep cleaning is recommended every few weeks or at least once a month to prevent clogging, food particle build-up and to prevent weird smells from forming. If you are in a hurry, clean the inner pot, lid, the sealing-ring, and valve, to maintain hygiene and cleanliness.

What Is Natural Release On An Instant Pot

On the other end of the scale, there is a natural release for instant pots, this is the way that is most commonly used as it is slow, steady and much safer.

The natural release happens when you turn the black nozzle on the lid to venting, once it is as venting it will slowly depressurize naturally and will take anything from 10-15 minutes.

The natural way is safer, causes less mess with water spewing everywhere and easier. Once the pot has reached a certain level and has depressurized this will then trigger the metal tab to fall and click.

During the natural release you will see the screen turn to L000 this is the timer for how long the food has stopped cooking and the natural release has taken place. Different foods and recipes with require different release times so make sure to look out for that while you are releasing your instant pot

This timer will go up in minutes as time goes on, this does not indicate that the release is done, which can only be identified when the metal valve has dropped.

This will indicate it is ready to open, even once the instant pot is ready you should still take care when opening the lid for access steam.

Buying Replacement Parts Vs A New Machine

*New* GLASS LID for INSTANT POT 3, 6, or 8qt Quarts ...

Certain aspects of the Instant Pot can be very affordably replaced if damaged irreparably. Smaller partswhich have a larger chance of getting lost or tossedlike condensation collectors, steam release handles, float valves, and detachable power cords can all be replaced for under $20 through the official Instant Pot website.

The most fragile part of the Instant Pot, and the one most likely to be replaced at least once every few years, is the ring, which experiences a lot of wear during everyday usage. In the case of damage, or when your ring is simply worn down, sealing rings can be replaced online for between $6-13 depending on the size of the machine.

How To Remove Stubborn Stains From Your Instant Pot

Not all stubborn stains can be washed away in the dishwasher; sometimes, more extreme measures are called for, especially if the Instant Pot has been left standing for a while without being washed.;

  • Stuck-on-food Warm soapy water is recommended to remove stubborn stains and food particles. Leave to soak if necessary but do not use steel wool or abrasive cleaners as these will damage the stainless-steel surface. If soaking does not work, use a soft, damp sponge to work away the grime.
  • Water stains and discoloration on the bottom of the inner pot can easily be removed with a vinegar solution. Pour 1 full cup of white vinegar into the stainless-steel bowl and leave for 5 minutes before pouring out; rinse with clean water. If the stain is particularly stubborn, soak a sponge in vinegar and scrub lightly. Wash with clean soapy water and dry thoroughly.

Cleaning The Lid And Its Parts

Oils, aromatic seasonings, fats and liquids tend to settle into the Instant Pot’s seals and gaskets. Here’s a checklist for keeping it clean:

    • Check the steam release valve and red float valve. You’ll want to make sure they’re both free and clear of any food deposits or debris.;
    • Remove the anti-block shield, a silicone nub that covers the float valve from the inside. With the shield off, you can get a better look at the float valve to confirm any blocks or clogs. It’s a small part, so take care not to misplace or lose it.
    • Remove the silicone sealing ring. This part easily picks up strong odors. One method to rid it of any unwanted smells is to wash it separately in the dishwasher. Make sure to select a high-temperature cycle such as sanitize. The combination of high heat and detergent should remove most of the unpleasant odors present.

The silicone ring found in the Instant Pot’s lid tends to attract odors quickly.

Having a hard time trying to get some stuck cheese or BBQ sauce off your slow cookers bottom? It happens to the best of us. Heres how to clean it off without using an abrasive sponge:

    • Soak the crock pots container in water overnight.;Sometimes, you just need to add extra water to soften up the food enough for it to be scrubbable. By letting it sit for 10 hours or so, most food will have softened up to the point that you wont need a specialty brush.
    • If youre having a very hard time, fill your crock pots container with water and set it to cook for a couple of hours.;The hot water will be able to soften up stains and remove bacteria. Its similar to how steam cleaning deep-cleans sweaters. After letting it cook, take a sponge and wipe down the interior.
    • Vinegar and heavy scrubbing with a soft sponge will remove residue.;Vinegar is a cure-all when it comes to cleaning, and yes, it can eat away stains on a crock pots interior remarkably well.
    • For extremely tough stains, add baking soda and dish soap to the water trick above. The baking soda acts as a natural deodorizer and can also help break down grease thats caked onto the interior of the container. The dish soap helps sanitize and can help make certain stains easier to lift.

How To Clean An Instant Pot

    • Warm soapy water
    • Dishwasher
    • White distilled vinegar

STEP 1: Make sure your Instant pot is cooled down before you begin cleaning. Remove the lid, steam rack, and inner stainless-steel pot from the exterior cooker base. One might also want to check for damage to the cord or any needed repairs at this time.

STEP 2: Clean the base of Instant pot: Much like a slow cooker, the base of pressure cooker contains the heating element and electronic components, so this part should never be inundated in water or placed in the dishwasher. To clean the Instant Pot base, wipe down the outside with a damp cloth to remove crumbs or food splashes. If you need to clean the inside of the cooking base, use a clean, damp material to wipe it down and dry the interior immediately. Clean the recessed area around the lip of the base to remove any stuck-on food.

STEP 3: The inner bowl and steam rack are ended of stainless steel, so these can be washed by hand in warm, soapy water or placed in the dishwasher on either rack for tougher-to-tackle food stains or remains. Over time, you might notice water stains or staining on the bottom of the inner pot, which can be easily removed with vinegar. To renew the finish, pour 1 cup white vinegar into the stainless-steel bowl and let it sit for 5 minutes before pouring it out and rinsing with water. Avoid using steel wool or coarse cleaners, which can damage the stainless-steel surface.

Is Your Instant Pot Dishwasher Safe

The Instant Pot multi-cooker has different parts and the good news is that most of them are dishwasher safe. Go ahead and load the inner pot, steam rack, and the sealing ring;inside the dishwasher;whenever they need to be cleaned.

The cooking base of your Instant Pot is different. You cannot place that part of the multi-cooker inside the dishwasher. Placing the cooking base inside the dishwasher will lead to the microprocessor and heating element malfunctioning.

Cleaning the lid of your Instant Pot is also a bit more complicated. The lid itself is safe to place inside the top rack of the dishwasher, but one part of it is not. To be more specific, the anti-block shield located underneath the lid must be washed separately.

Also, your Instant Pot has a condensation collector that is not dishwasher safe. Its easy to miss the condensation collector so make a point of removing it after every use of your Instant Pot.
