Double Check The Doneness Of Your Favorite Recipes
Its always a good idea to check the inner temperature of a slow-cooked meal to ensure the ingredients are heated throughout, and this step is especially important when youre slow-cooking in an Instant Pot.
You see, there are a few key differences between an Instant Pot and a traditional slow cooker. For one, a traditional slow cooker pot is typically made of thick ceramic, so the sides of the bowl heat up, cooking your food from all sides. With an Instant Pot, the thin metal pot doesnt get nearly as warm, so your food is only being cooked from the bottom.
Additionally, the temperature settings on an Instant Pot arent exactly the same as on a slow cooker. The brand lists the following temperature ranges for each setting:
- Less: 180-190°F
- Normal: 190-200°F
- More: 200-210°F
On a standard slow cooker, the low setting is generally around 190°F and the high setting is around 300°F. As you can see, the settings between the two appliances dont match up precisely, so it may take some trial and error to recreate your favorite recipes.
For these reasons, slow cooker recipes often take a bit longer to make in an Instant Pot, and youll want to check the inner temperature of your meal to confirm its reached a safe temperature before you dig in.

What Types Of Food Can I Keep Warm In The Instant Pot
Many foods will benefit from the keep warm function. Soups, stews, and other foods that would normally simmer for a long time on the stove are suitable.
However, more delicate foods can become mushy and lose their appeal. Some examples include leafy vegetables and pasta.
Certain foods, particularly those put directly in the instant pot, can dry out or lose their texture if they are kept warm for an extended time. Rice is an example of this because long-term exposure to a high temperature can cause the rice to dry out.
One tip you can use in this situation is to place the food in a separate dish. So, the food will not have direct contact with the instant pot. Then fill the pot with water to produce steam.
How Does Instant Pot Work
So the working principle of the instant pot is somewhat the same as that of the regular pressure cooker. The lid seals the air inside the pot and when the air does not find a way to escape from the pressure cooker, the steam builds the pressure inside the pot. Thus, with the rise in the pressure inside the instant pot, the temperature also rises.; Due to the steam, high pressure, and subsequently high temperature the food present inside the instant pot gets cooked.

Reheating Leftovers That Are Thick In Consistency
In contrast, if your leftovers are thick or if they contain dairy, youll want to use the pot in pot method. Today, were reheating our;Instant Pot Green Bean Casserole;and because its thick in consistency and contains dairy were choosing to use this method. We froze the leftovers in a glass round container so that we didnt need to switch containers. However, if you forget, simply run the side of your container in hot water until youre able to release into a glass container. Next, cover the bowl with tinfoil. The bowl will need to sit on the trivet so you can go ahead and add that next. Be sure to add 1 cup of water to the pot and then place your leftovers in the Instant Pot.
Add Oil To The Inside Of The Pot
Another way is to coat the inside of your instant pot with oil.
Of course, do this when your instant pot is cold and then allow the oil to heat with your pot, as otherwise, you may burn yourself.
Since the vast majority of recipes have a water-based sauce , and because oil and water wont mix, the sauce will not be able to touch the sides of the pot, meaning the ingredients that youre cooking simply wont stick.
When cooking in a more traditional pan, you always pre-heat the pan and then add your oil. This gives the oil that youre cooking with time to heat, which means that when you add your ingredients, they wont stick.

Natural Vs Manual Pressure Release
When the cook time is up on your Instant Pot, there’s still one more step — releasing the pressure.;
There are two ways the pressure can be released. With natural pressure release, the valve on the lid stays in Sealing position and the pressure dissipates naturally over time. This can take anywhere from 20 minutes to more than an hour, depending on what you were cooking. Low-liquid meals take much less time than high-liquid meals, like soup or chili.;
The other option is manual pressure release . Here, you’ll carefully move the valve into Venting position and watch as steam shoots out of it, releasing the pressure. This method is much faster, but very high-liquid meals, like soup, can still take about 15 minutes to release pressure manually.
So which one should you use? Consider that with natural pressure release, the Instant Pot is still full of pressure, so the food will continue cooking while the Instant Pot is in Sealing mode. Manual pressure release is useful — and necessary — when you’ve built in enough cooking time and cooking needs to be stopped as fast as possible.
If the goal is to cook a meal quickly, set enough time on the Instant Pot to cook your food and release the pressure manually when the time is up.;

The US Food and Drug Administration recommends maintaining an internal temperature of 140 °F or warmer. Eggs and egg dishes like quiches or soufflés should be reheated to 65 °F before serving. It is better to check the product label to make sure that it has the capability to safely keep the food warm and prevent any accumulation of bacteria. And Always use a food thermometer to make sure food is in the safe zone.
Steam & Natural Release
Regardless of what method you have chosen to use youll need to lid the pot and seat the valve to sealing. Were going to reheat the leftovers on the steam mode HIGH for 18-20 minutes. Keep in mind this doesnt account for the time the pots needs to come to pressure. We found that our 6 Quart Instant Pot Duo took 11 minutes to come to pressure. Also note, if youve doubled a recipe and the leftovers quantity is quite high, simply increase the cooking time by 5 minutes. Lastly, allow a natural release of 10 minutes before quick releasing any remaining pressure.
