Does Meat Need To Be Covered With Liquid In An Instant Pot

Instant Pot Simple: Pork Chops

No, the pork loin chops do not have to be covered with liquid in the instant pot. The idea of making pork chops in the pressure cooker is that they cook with steam. If they are covered with liquid they will boil and thats not the result that we are looking for.

Thats why you only need 1 cup of liquid, which sits on the bottom of the pot underneath the trivet and the pork chops elevated above it.

Which Model Of Instant Pot Is Best

I never knew how many models of instant pots that there are. I just thought you could buy a small or large one. There are too many to list here, but you need one that is easy to use and has basic settings.

You dont usually need one that makes cakes, yogurt, etc, especially if you have never even used an instant pot before. Some have wifi settings, that can be helpful but if the pot is too complicated you may not use it. Plus the more features the larger the price tag, which may be something to consider.

There are several sizes, from the mini which is 3-quart, 6-quart is a common size, 8 or 10-quart are larger. The size of your family may be a deciding factor in which instant pot you buy. The prices vary from $60 to $200.

Instant Pot pork chops are a thick cut pork chop that is seared in the Instant Pot and finished on high pressure. They might not save you much time, but they do free up the oven for other things.

Pork Chops can vary in the pressure cooker based on size, thickness and of course marbling. You will need to vary the cooking time slightly if you have different cuts of pork chops.

I use chops about 3/4 to 1 thick with bone in. Just like roast chicken, bone in meat is tender and has tons of flavor. If you have pork steaks they come out melt in your mouth tender but youll need to add a little bit of time if theyre thick. I personally wouldnt recommend thin cut pork chops in the pressure cooker.

    • Bone-In Center Cut Chops about 15-18 minutes .
    • Boneless Loin Chops I cook to 8-10 minutes.
    • Pork Steaks: Pork steaks 1 thick need about 20 minutes, they come out very tender.

If you have frozen pork chops and are pressed for time, you can make Instant Pot frozen pork chops but youll need to add about 5 minutes or so extra. Skip the searing step. Be aware that the Instant Pot will take longer to come up to pressure when you are starting from frozen.

    Making Ahead And Storing Options

Making Ahead If you want to save time, you can prepare these pork chops ahead of time and refrigerate them for up to a day. Season them up to a day ahead of time, so that the next day when you are ready to cook them in the instant pot it will take just a few minutes to do so.

Store them in the refrigerator until you are ready to cook them. When the pork chops are cooking, then make up a salad or your favorite side dish.

Storing After Cooking After the pork chops are cooked and you have leftovers, they are easy to store in the refrigerator. Put them in an airtight plastic container and they will keep fresh for up to 5 days, if they even last that long. in your house.

Can I Put Frozen Meat In My Instapot

I think weve answered that one. Now you just have to get the hang of it. We added vegetables on the bottom too because why not.

The trick to that is if you want to enjoy those with your meat, cut them quite large.

  • Frozen chops
    • Salt and pepper
    • Smoked paprika

It doesnt matter if you have bone in pork chops or boneless, these are the latter. The cooking time seems to be the same when you pressure cook these.

Of course you wont be able to brown the pork chops beforehand, but you could do 2 minutes per side at the end if you wanted. I personally want them as tender as possible so I dont.

If you have really small pieces I might adjust the time to 10 minutes but I tend to buy medium size and thickness and 12 is just right.

The biggest thing to remember is that these need the steam to release naturally and slowly.

Do not do a quick release or it wont finish cooking slowly at the end so theyre nice and soft.

To get the rub to stick you could rub a bit of olive oil on the outsides.

    Time needed: 12 minutes.

If you need instructions for air fryer frozen pork chops we have that too.

Why Are My Pork Chops Tough & Dry

Pork chops Instant Pot recipe | best pork chop and fast!

The #1 reason is overcooking! Pork chops are usually quite lean and will become tough once they are overcooked.

For best result, you will want to use bone-in pork chops that are well-marbled. The bone will act as a shield for the surrounding meat. A thicker cut of pork chop will work better in the Instant Pot as it is less likely to overcook.

Can I Bake Them In The Oven Without The Instant Pot

If you do not have an instant pot yet in your kitchen yet and you want to make these pork chops, its still possible. Heres what to do:

  • Sear them first in a dutch oven in a couple of tablespoons of olive oil.
  • Take them out and add the onions and mushrooms, saute them and then add the pork chops back into the pot.
  • Now bake them in the oven in the same pot, with the cover on to keep them moist at 350 degrees for about 30 minutes or until the thermometer registers 145 degrees.
  • If you want the gravy then you can still make it in the pan once you remove the pork chops, then follow the same instructions for making the gravy and pour it over the chops and serve.

Can You Overcook Pork In A Pressure Cooker

It is possible to overcook your pork chops, but usually, if the meat does not come out tender it is because it did not cook long enough to tenderize.

If you use a thick pork chop in the instant pot, there is less chance it will overcook than if you use a thin one.

If you use a bone-in pork chop that has fat on it, the bone acts as a shield for the meat around it, which can help to keep it moist. The bone conducts heat, which helps prevent the meat from overcooking while the fat adds flavor and moisture during the cooking process.

The searing process also helps to lock in the juices which will also help to keep the pork chops tender. Just make sure to stick to the cooking time directions in the recipe so that you do not dry them out.
