When I first started cooking with my Instant Pot, there were no accessories you just had to wing it! I raided thrift stores for old pans and rigged up all kinds of contraptions from wads of foil that worked okay if you didnt breathe on them the wrong way.
That wasnt even ten years ago, but since then a multitude of accessories designed just for Instant Pots have popped up. Which ones are worth bothering with? I tried out a dozen, and heres what I liked best.

The Instant Pot is one of the most useful kitchen appliances you can buy, because it drastically cuts down on the cooking time for developing flavors in soups and stews, getting tough cuts of meat tender, and even baking a cheesecake. Instant Pot Accessory Sets
I dont recommend those sets that have a lot of different things in them. Unless you honestly know what each piece does, what you need it for, and think youll use it, its probably not worth it. They seem super overpriced and not useful to me!
Ive been given a couple sets to try, and it just seems like each piece is low quality. I asked one company what makes their kit products different from the rest and he said, honestly, we all get them from the same factory so its just whatever mix of tools people put together.
I prefer to maybe pay slightly more for individual, carefully-selected tools that I know will add value to my kitchen.

Sealing Rings Red And Blue
Extra gasketsor, as they call them here, sealing ringsare a huge plus. I recommend them to anyone who uses an Instant Pot once a week or more. Have you ever made chili and then had that chili smell lurk in the gasket for ages? And you want to make cheesecake and not have it tinged with chili? There are hacks that supposedly get rid of the lingering odor, but Ive tried them, and none of them work.
Having two gaskets on hand is the best solution. Theyre color-coded so you can remember: use red for chili/curry/etc., blue for delicates.
Plus, if you store your IP correctly and use it a lot, the gaskets can stretch out and the pot wont come to pressure. This way, you always have an extra on deck.

My Honest Advice About Instant Pot Accessories
This might be weird to hear from someone like me, but DONT go out and buy a million accessories for your Instant Pot right away! Especially if youre a beginner, I want you to get your Instant Pot, and USE it first.
I get a lot of messages that sound a lot like this: Hi Lisa! I just got my Instant Pot and have no idea what Im doing with it! What accessories do you recommend I buy?
I always give the same response: none.
Figure out what youre cooking and how youre cooking! A bunch of accessories arent useful to you if you have no idea how youre using your Instant Pot.
Get that pot out of the box, and use it! Youll quickly find out what accessories you need.
If youre finding yourself making a lot of vegetables or confident enough to make a cheesecake, youll figure out that your cooking process could be a lot easier with a steamer basket or a specific cheesecake pan.
I improvised with what I had for a year, and I did just fine! I dont want anyone wasting their hard earned money on stuff they dont need! A huge pet peeve of mine is to waste money by buying without a clear purpose in mind.

The silicone sealing ring that sits in the lid of your Instant Pot can absorb food flavors and aromas over time. But if you have a couple of extras on hand, you can designate one sealing ring to use for savory foods and another sealing ring for desserts. Its a simple way to avoid any unwanted flavor transfers from your sealing rings.

Instant Pot Ceramic Inner Cooking Pot
I cant express enough how nice it is to have two inner pots. Having an extra will allow you to cook two parts of a meal without transferring and cleaning the original pot after the first step. I use this for things like Meatballs & Mashed Potatoes and Orange Chicken with Rice. You can cook the Main dish in one pot, then replace it with a second to steam the rice.
If youre going to get a second inner pot, I recommend a ceramic non-stick version to compliment the stainless steel version. This 6-quart version has a ceramic non-stick interior coating, and is plastic, PTFE, and PFOA free. It can also be transferred to the oven up to fairly high temps, so you can keep the food in it warm while cooking in the second pot.

You’re no longer limited to the round shape of the inner pot. Use this loaf pan to make meatloafs, desserts, breads, and more.
