When To Select Low Pressure

Tip Tuesday – Instant Pot Trivet Hack

Low pressure should be used for delicate foods like eggs, fish, and vegetables. However, all of these foods can also be cooked using high pressure for a reduced amount of time. If you are confused about whether or not to use low or high pressure, its best to stick to high pressure. This should be specified in recipes.

How Long Do You Need To Steam Eggs In Instant Pot

The steaming time for eggs in the instant pot can vary based on your preference for the doneness of the eggs.

If you prefer soft boiled eggs, or eggs with a texture of runny yolks you need to cook them only for very few minutes about 5 minutes.

Personally, I prefer a pressure cooking time of 7 to 9 minutes , followed by a natural pressure release of 5 minutes and then a manual release, for a bright, orange colored yolk which is also completely cooked.

As you increase the cooking time, the texture will turn further harder.

If you want perfect hard boiled eggs with yellow yolks, I would recommend cooking for at least 10 minutes and then you can let the pressure release naturally for about 5 minutes and then do a gradual manual release of pressure.

Overcooking of eggs can lead to a more hardened, bland and rubbery yolk texture with slight discoloration like light greenish yellow yolk, which is not recommended.

Also I prefer to place the eggs in an ice water bath for about 10 minutes rather than the minimum recommended amount of time of five minutes, because I feel that way its much more easier to peel.

What To Use The Trivet For

The trivet comes with the Instant Pot. This is a simple insert that allows you to get some space between the bottom of the pot and whatever food youre cooking. Generally speaking, any food that you might want to cook without having it come into direct contact with liquid can be made more easily with the trivet. You can place the food directly on top of the trivet or add it to a round heat-proof casserole dish or cake pan and place that on top of the trivet.

Think of things like chicken breasts, lasagna, breads, meatloaf, and other things that wouldnt taste great if they were super soggy. Its also commonly used for eggs, veggies, potatoes, or pot-in-pot cooking. Using the trivet can prevent burning or overcooking and also ensure even cooking.

Can I Stack Chicken In An Instant Pot

INSTANT POT 18 EGG TRIVET STACKABLE HOLDERS by PACKISM REVIEW

Ideally, no. Butyes.

Placing chicken in the pressure cooker in a single layer will give you the best results to make sure its evenly-cooked. However, this limits how many pieces of chicken you can cook at once.

If were going by total amount, you can certainly fit more chicken with stacking . Just be aware that you may need to increase cooking time if you do this, and be sure to check internal temp.

If you are using frozen chicken, keep it to a single layer, no stacking.

How To Saute In The Instant Pot

Sauté is a non-pressure cooking program that can be used in place of a frying pan or flat-top grill. For recipes that call for browned onions or garlic, its important to sauté them before adding liquid to the pot as you will release a lot of flavor this way. Another reason to sauté first is for browning meat. Lastly, sautéeing before cooking is a great way to increase heat and reduce the amount of time your pot will take to come to pressure. Learn more about other smart program settings on Instant Pot here.

Step 1. Star the Instant Pot. Insert the inner pot into the cooker base. Do not use the lid for the next step.

Step 2. Press the Sauté button. After 10 seconds, the cooker displays ON to indicate that it has begun heating. When display switches from On to Hot, add ingredients you want to brown. Note: You can add ingredients before the Hot message appears if you do, it may not appear at all. This is normal.

The control panel will display a 30-minute countdown timer as a maximum Sauté time, you can use it for reference if you like or disregard.

The default temperature setting for Sauté function is Normal. Press Sauté again to cycle through for Less and More temperature options. Use Normal for general pan searing or sautéing, Less for simmering, thickening and reducing liquids and More for Stir-frying or browning meat.

Step 4. Add any other ingredients and liquids. Stir if needed or leave layered and continue with the manual or program settings to pressure cook the food.

How To Boil/steam Potatoes In The Instant Pot

Firstly wash and clean the potatoes with water. Add water into the instant pot insert. Place the trivet and then arrange the potatoes. I have used extra-large Russet Potatoes here.

Furthermore, close the lid on the pot, and turn pressure valve to the SEALING position. Set the pot to MANUAL/PRESSURE COOK and timer to

3 minutes for diced potatoes ,1 inch OR

5 minutes for small/baby potatoes OR

6 minutes for medium potatoes OR

10 minutes for large potatoes OR

12 minutes for extra-large potatoes

Once the instant pot beeps, Wait for the pressure to release naturally and thenopen the lid. Check the doneness of potatoes by inserting a knife or fork in the center.

Peel the skin and use it right away or store it without peeling in the refrigerator for later use.

Note: These times mentioned will result in perfectly cooked/boiled potatoes, if you want the potatoes more soft and mushy consistency then add 2 more minutes of pressure cooking.

What Should You Not Cook In A Separate Pot In The Instant Pot

How To Get Started With Your Instant Pot

Quinoa. In my experience, quinoa does not work using the pot-in-pot method. Ive cooked it in water anywhere from 10 to 30 minutes, and only the quinoa at the top of the bowl gets cooked. I dont know why this happens, but I recommend using my Instant Pot Quinoa recipe instead.

This might be the case for other gluten-free pseudo-grains, like millet and amaranth, too. I havent tested those myself, after having such a bad experience with the quinoa.

Boiling or Steaming Potatoes in Instant Pot Pressure Cooker is fast and easy! It comes out perfectly every time and can be used to make dishes, such as Potato Masala for Dosa, Spicy Potato Sandwich, mashed potatoes.

Cooking time mainly depends on size and the variety of potatoes.

Potatoes are one of our fav vegetables at home and we can make so many recipes out of them. I used to use Traditional Stovetop Pressure Cooker to boil the potatoes earlier, I had to track the number of whistles, if you forgot to count, a lot of times either potatoes would be undercooked or overcooked.

Since the time I have been using Instant pot for boiling potatoes my life has been so easy because you get perfectly cooked potatoes based on the size and variety and with zero monitoring.

You can also use it for mashed potatoes ,potato salad etc.
