I will also NPR instead of QR if Im not in a rush. The Thai tea leaves arent as sensitive as other tea leaves. I honestly havent noticed much difference in NPR/QR and time variances for pressure cooking as well. Ive tried 10-15 minutes of high-pressure cooking time and have not noticed any difference.

I would never make green tea with the throw the tea in and pressure cook method. You can get away with that using black or herbal tea, but green tea should only steep for 1 to 3 minutes or it becomes very bitter.

How To Make Iced Tea In The Pressure Cooker:
The way this recipe works is that youre going to brew the tea in your pressure cooker, and make the homemade simple syrup in a saucepan while the tea is brewing.
So you start by adding the water, tea bags , and half a cup of the blackberries to the pressure cooker. Give them a good stir, and then put the lid on and lock it.;
Switch the vent so that it is in the sealing position and set the Instant Pot on Manual for 5 minutes. If youre using a different type of pressure cooker, set the timer for 5 minutes. You shouldnt need a special setting.
When the cook time on the pressure cooker is complete, allow the pressure to come to a natural release for 10 minutes. That means that you simply allow the pot to sit for 10 minutes without opening the vent. The pressure will let itself out gradually.
After 10 minutes, move the sealing vent to the vent setting to release any remaining pressure.;
Strain the hot tea mixture through a fine mesh strainer into a large, heat-safe pitcher or beverage dispenser and sweeten it with the blackberry simple syrup.
Let the drink cool just a bit, and add the sweet tea vodka , blackberry simple syrup, and fresh lemon juice and stir it well.
Fill some glasses with ice and enjoy!;
The drink will last a couple of days in the refrigerator.;

- Use Your Favorite Tea: We like black tea, but use your favorite. Herbal teas also make some great options, especially when making smaller batches.
- Not a fan of sugar?: Omit the sugar or use a sugar substitute like, Stevia, honey, or other low-calorie sweetener.
- Want to double the recipe?: This recipe makes about a 1/2 gallon of iced tea. It can easily be doubled to make a gallon simply by doubling the amount of water. No need to double the tea bags. It does take significantly longer for the pressure cooker to come to pressure, with the additional water.
- Make it flavored!: Add your favorite flavored syrup like peach, raspberry, or blackberry for a flavored iced tea.
- Only have regular sized tea bags? No problem! It takes about 4 regular sized tea bags to equal 1 family sized tea bag.

We tried making it on the stove. But it was so inconvenient that we wound up making it a whole lot less. Which means we were consuming a lot less liquid in the summer heat. Not good. But the Instant Pot has been a game changer. Just bring water to a simmer, add tea bags & baking soda , close the lid & cook for 5 minutes. Then you can strain, sweeten & chill. So simple.

Why do I need to add baking soda?
The baking soda cuts the bitterness of the tea. This is optional, but I highly recommend it.
The tea is strong, what do I do now?
You can also add more cold water to dilute the tea a bit. I like to start strong & go from there. Its a lot easier to reduce the strength of the tea. You cant really make it stronger once its brewed.
What about the fruit?
You can add fruit like apples or any other fruit to the tea during the cooking process. Just strain out afterward. I prefer my tea plain, so I often leave this out unless Im making it for a party.
How do I sweeten the tea?
Start with your favorite sweetener 1 tbsp at a time. Dont go overboard with this as the tea will taste more bitter & be stronger while warm. You can always add more after it has chilled.

Why/how I Think Instant Pot Iced Tea Works:
So for all of you who wondered about QPR and NR , and wondered if the Tea would be bitter if boiled…
- Under pressure, water doesn’t boil at 212F. What pressure does is it raises the boiling point of liquids. So things heat up, but don’t boil.
- That’s why the food in a pressure cooker tastes different than if it had been boiled on the stovetop or slow cooker.
- Once the pressure is released with QR, the water does come to a vigorous boil. As the pressure goes down, the liquid returns to its original boiling point, which for water would be 212F.
- This is why we don’t QR most meats. People sometimes say it’s to let the meat rest but it’s actually to keep the meat from being boiled.
- This is why when you QR, you have to be really careful as you open it, because as the pressure releases, the liquid inside starts to boil vigorously.
- But if you let it NPR, it is less likely to boil. So your tea is being steeped in high degree water–but not being boiled. I realized this last night as I was falling asleep. #iamanerd
- So don’t QPR. And your tea is being well-steeped, not boiled.
How To Make Peach Iced Tea
Peach Ginger Tea Ingredients:
- 8 cups of water
- 6 organic black tea bags, or you can use white tea, oolong, Earl Grey, English Breakfast, or even green tea
- 2 cups of peach slices, fresh or frozen, about 4 peaches worth
- 2-inch piece of ginger, sliced
- 1/2 cup of granulated sweetener, or 1/4 cup of stevia, or use honey and add later
