How To Serve Instant Pot Oatmeal
I love to serve this oatmeal with coconut milk or homemade almond milk on the side so you can add a splash if you want. It cools down the oatmeal a bit so you can eat it quicker and gives it a silky-smooth texture.
Also, if you like your breakfast on the sweeter side, try finishing your oatmeal with a splash of honey or pure maple syrup!
Why I Make Instant Pot Oatmeal
Im pretty versed at cooking , but man, I SUCK at cooking oatmeal!
Even in the microwave, it ALWAYS bubbles over and gets EVERYWHERE, no matter how diligently I watch it. Then, it gets all baked onto the tray and its a headache to clean.
Gone are the days of exploding oatmeal! I now exclusively use my 3 quart Instant Pot when making oatmeal for my family. I just dump, set, and forget until I can get to it.
This is, of course, after like a 30 minute natural pressure release because Im getting kids cleaned up, seated, drinks, the *right* fork/spoon, etc. etc. etc You know what Im talking about, right? Just me? Please let it not be just me! It feels like our mornings take forever!
After getting everyone situated, I can easily scoop the oatmeal into bowls and add milk + whatever variation the kids want that morning. My kids are always QUIET when they have oatmeal for breakfast. WHAT?! That must mean they really like it! #momwin.

Instant Pot Oatmeal is an easy and delicious breakfast made in under 30 minutes. With tons of variations youll want to make a big batch so you can have breakfast ready all week!
They say breakfast is the most important meal of the day. But how many times do you skip out because you are rushed? Or maybe youre trying to get the kids off to school and quickly throw them a pop tart while praying they will be on time?
I remember those days! While breakfast is the most important meal we dont always have time to make an hearty meal in the morning. Heres where Instant Pot Oatmeal saves the day.
This easy recipe can be made ahead of time and there are unlimited flavor combinations to switch things up. And that means you and your kids wont get bored eating the same thing every day.
To make oatmeal an even more nutritious option, add in some protein powder or ground flaxseed. I know you are thinking, eww but you cant even taste it and the protein will keep you fuller for longer. The secret is a good protein powder I recommend the Orgain brand .
Plus you dont even have to tell your kids its in there. Trust me, theyll never notice, especially after you add in different toppings.

Are Steel Cut Oats Better For You Than Rolled Oats
Steel cut oats and rolled oats both come from the same whole grain cereal, so they have similar nutrition content and really only differ in their processing. Rolled oats are steamed, then rolled to produce their signature flat look and quick-cooking texture. Because they are tender and cook quickly, they are ideal for adding to baked goods, like my Gluten-free Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies.
Steel cut oats, on the other hand, are less processed. To make steel cut oats, the oat groat is sliced with a steel blade to create more of a chopped, rice-like grain that is chewier in texture and takes longer to cook.
Though, the cooking time isnt a problem when you have an Instant Pot . Just press a button and walk away until its ready! I love not having to babysit my oats on the stove top, or worrying about them burning on the bottom.
The key to cooking perfect steel cut oats in the Instant Pot is allowing the pressure to naturally release after the initial 4 minute cooking cycle. While the pressure releases, the oats absorb the water without burning on the bottom of the pot. This prevents sticking and allows the oats to become perfectly tender. You just have to be patient!
What You Need For Instant Pot Oatmeal
Other than an Instant Pot, you only need 4 simple ingredients you probably already have on hand to make Instant Pot Oatmeal!
Rolled Oats : Old fashioned rolled oats are a staple in our house. They cook much faster than steel cut oats, but you get all the same benefits. Make sure that you buy old fashioned AKA rolled oats. Do NOT use quick-cooking or steel-cut oats for this recipe.
Almond Milk: to make Instant Pot oatmeal, you need to use some kind of liquid. Our preferred liquid is unsweetened almond milk, but you can really use any kind of milk or water.
Maple Syrup: I love adding a little bit of sweet to my oatmeal and my favorite is maple syrup. Its warm and all-natural. Dont have maple? Try using honey or even brown sugar.
Salt: a little bit of salt brings out the nutty flavor of the oatmeal and heightens the sweetness of the maple syrup without needing to use more sugar.

Stovetop cooking gives you the most control over your oatmeal something that baked or slow cooker oatmeal cant promise. It also cooks the oatmeal relatively quickly. Most pots of oatmeal go awry in their ratio of water to oats, and with how long the oats are cooked. Instead, think of cooking oatmeal as you would other whole grains. What Is The Difference Between Oats And Oatmeal
While some people may use the terms oats and oatmeal interchangeably, they are, in fact, different. Oats refer to the unprocessed, cylindrical kernel. When it is processed i.e either ground, steel-cut, or rolled, it becomes oatmeal.

Change Your Cook Time
Changing the cook time is very simple and easy to do. Experiment with cooking your oatmeal for different lengths of time to see if you can determine the proper time to stop the cooking process before it burns. Burning oatmeal can happen very quickly, so you may even have to try different times decreasing in 30 second intervals.
Alternatively, you can also try stopping midway through the cook time and giving your oatmeal a quick stir before trying again. Once you know the correct time it will take, be sure to record it down so you can remember.
