What To Serve With Country Style Ribs

How to make Country Style Pork Ribs in the Instant Pot

My friend told me just this week that shed never had country style ribs before! She didnt know how to make them or what to serve them with, which is what inspired me to dig these pictures out of my archives and write this post for her!

Country Style Ribs with BBQ sauce go well with anything youd normally serve at a barbeque! Beans, potatoes, bread, etc.

You could even take a chunk of meat and put it in a hotdog or hamburger bun if you really wanted to! Heres a couple ideas for some easy sides in the Instant Pot:

Can Country Style Ribs Be Cooked In The Slow Cooker

Yes, you can definitely cook country style ribs in the slow cooker. Sometimes a slow cooker meal just fits better into your schedule. I totally get that! Follow the same steps of coating the ribs in BBQ rub and browning them on the stove. Pour the apple juice and liquid smoke in the slow cooker and cook on low for 6-8 hours or on high for 4-5 hours. Follow the same instructions for broiling them after they are cooked.

These country style ribs are tender, juicy, and a quick and easy way to get dinner on the table in under an hour! Our whole family devours them and they are great meal to serve guests. They are rich in flavor and just good ol down home comfort food!

Make It A Freezer Meal

Another fabulous aspect to this recipe is that it works wonderfully as a make-ahead freezer meal. Just cut and season the ribs and prepare the sauce as directed in the recipe. Transfer the uncooked seasoned ribs to a freezer-safe plastic storage bag and pour the sauce over the top. Remove as much air as possible from the bag, seal, and label it. Transfer the bag to the freezer and use within 4 to 5 months for the best quality.

When you are ready to cook the ribs, allow them to thaw safely in your refrigerator overnight and then proceed with the recipe, as directed for either the slow cooker or Instant Pot method.

Why Pressure Cook Country Style Boneless Ribs

While I have a slow cooker recipe or two for ribs, I do like making boneless ribs in the electric pressure cooker.

First, its so much faster and doesnt take all day.

Second, they come out moist and tender. But not too tender.

Sometimes I overcook short ribs, baby back ribs, and beef ribs in my crock pot. Im left with a pile of rib bones and shredded meat. Whoops! Not what I wanted.

Pressure cooking ribs is so much easier and the results are more dependable.

Can I Use Frozen Ribs

How Long Do You Cook Country Style Ribs In An Instant Pot ...

Yes, you can put frozen ribs directly into the pressure cooker pot. If the ribs are separate, you dont need to change the cook time at all. For a large block of frozen ribs, add a few minutes to the pressure cooking time.;

With frozen meat, theres no need to brown it first.;

If youre using more meat to serve a bigger crowd, theres no need to increase the cooking time, as long as the ribs are all the same thickness.;

I feel like moms and dads everywhere are torn on whether they’re happy to have their kids head back to class or not.

I’m in the “not” category this year. ;Summer just went by way too fast!

Can they just go back in October or something? ;Because, I mean, it IS really warm here still.

It should be illegal to send people back to school when it’s still warm enough out to go swimming.

Ok, back to your regularly scheduled food programming here.

I decided to go with country style pork ribs because they are so very meaty!

I do like baby back ribs as well, but I’ve definitely bought them, then been disappointed at the measly amount of meat I got out of it.

Using country style ribs ensures that everybody leaves the table satisfied!

Depending on your grocery store, sometimes these ribs are sold bone in, and sometimes bone out. ;Mine were bone out. ;But, either one will work just fine!

I love how easy these are and that I can have some tasty BBQ ribs on the table in about an hour.

Whats The Difference Between Country Style Ribs And Baby Back Ribs

Country style ribs are not actually ribs since they dont have any rib bones. Theyre cut from the loin, close to the shoulder, are meatier and have more fat than both baby back ribs and spare ribs. They are more like thick delicious pork chop shaped ribs.

If you have a pressure cooker, but have never tried ribs in it, you really have to give this rib recipe a try.; The rib meat turns out so tender and because the cooking environment is so moist, the ribs dont dry out.

Are Country Ribs Even Ribs

So you might be surprised to learn this, but country-style pork ribs arent technically ribs at all! Theyre much more like pork chops than something like baby back ribs.

Country pork ribs are mostly meat and have much less fat than ribs. People generally cook their instant pot pork country ribs in that fall-off-the bone fashion until the meat is very soft.

    Recipe Tips And Notes:

    • We love using this 6-QT Instant Pot. It has lots of options and is very useful for cooking.
    • Make sure to place the meat inside the pot. Then, put the homemade or barbecue sauce of your preference on top of them.
    • If there is a fat layer on them make sure that side is on top. It is possible that you will get a burn warning. This is because the fat is starting to cook off of the meat. But have no fear because the cooker is doing its job and it is just the built-up pressure inside of the cooker.;If it does happen,;open the cooker and just flip them, also you get a beautiful sear on that burnt side.
    • Once theyre in the cooker season them with salt and pepper generously.
    • Once cooked, pour some additional sauce on top of the meat to give them a nice coat on the top.

    Why Do I Sear The Ribs

    Searing is a technique to help seal in the juices of a meat. As a busy mom I honestly dont have time to do this step most days. So if you find yourself in that category dont sweat it. skip to the step of placing your ribs in the pressure cooker. But if you do have and extra 10 minutes then do it 🙂

    PLACE YOUR RIBS IN THE PRESSURE COOKER

    • If you are cooking a fair a mount you will want to layer your ribs. Place a few down, dont over crowd them.
    • Drizzle some your barbecue sauce over
    • Layer another 4-6 ribs and repeat with the barbecue sauce
    • add one cup of water to your instant pot
    • cook your ribs on high pressure for 15-20 minutes, natural release.
    • remove from liquid and place on a foil lined ;baking sheet.
    • Coat once more with barbecue sauce. Brush it on so it is nice and coated.

    Instant Pot – BBQ Country Style Ribs

    When summertime nears I start thinking about barbecuing, my favorite smoked ribs recipe with a pork dry rub. Some days I dont get to preparing dinner early enough to do either of those methods though.

    That is when this comes in really handy. There is a quick second step under the broiler to get the outside crispy but you can make them super tender and juicy in no time at all using this method.

  • Rack of ribs, country style is different than baby back as there may not be any bones or just a bit but its closer to cartilage texture.
  • Liquid smoke gives them a nice flavor.
  • Apple cider vinegar, or apple juice cider
  • Barbecue sauce
  • Our recipe for dry rub , or use your favorite bottled mixture
  • Beef broth is necessary for the pot to come to pressure
  • You could leave the rub off entirely if you wanted to, and the sauce is optional. I like LOTS of flavor though so the more the better if you ask me. OH, and youll need a trivet or small rack so the meat isnt submerged into the liquid.

    What Are Country Ribs

    These ribs are not the typical rack of ribs you might be thinking of. Country ribs are a different cut of ribs, they come from the shoulder of the ribs. You can purchase both ;bone-in and boneless country ribs. I highly recommend buying bone-incountry ribs. They always seem to cook way more tender and flavorful. I love these ribs because they have more meat than a short rib and still coming out super tender and juicy.

    Key Ingredients For Instant Pot Country Style Ribs

    Country Style Ribs Look for ribs with lots of marbling! A well-marbled rib will turn seriously tender and flaky as it cooks.

    Smoked Paprika Exactly how it sounds, smoked paprika has a slightly smoky flavor versus regular paprika. I love using smoked paprika in this recipe to give it more of a traditional barbecue taste. Though if you dont have smoked paprika, you can use regular paprika instead.

    Beef Broth The Instant Pot needs liquid to cook, and using beef broth specifically makes this dish all the more rich and flavorful. If you dont have beef broth, you can substitute it for 1 cup of water instead.

    How To Make Instant Pot Bbq Country Ribs:

    Rub the ribs down on all sides with the BBQ seasoning.

    After you season the ribs you will want to cut them into 3-4 rib sections to help them it in the Instant Pot and then set them aside for now.;

    Then, you are going to pour in the apple juice, liquid smoke, and vinegar in the bottom of the Instant Pot.

    Once you have done that, place the trivet into the bottom of the Instant Pot .

    Now, place the ribs on the trivet trying to not overlap them too much.;

    Then, cover the ribs by returning the lid back to the Instant Pot and turn it to lock it into place.

    Also, be sure that the knob is turned to the SEALING position.;

    Once all of that has been done, press the MANUAL or PRESSURE COOK button and set the timer for 25 minutes.;

    When the ribs are done cooking let the Instant Pot sit for another 10 minutes to let it naturally release some of the pressure, and then turn the knob to the VENTING position to finish with a quick release and take the lid off once the pressure is out.;

    It is time to preheat the broiler to low heat, and then remove the ribs from the Instant Pot and move them to a baking sheet that is lined with aluminum foil.;

    Before putting the ribs into the broiler, spread the BBQ sauce on top of the ribs. After that is done, place them into the broiler for 3-4 minutes until the sauce begins to caramelize.

    You will want to watch the ribs closely to avoid them burning or drying out.;
