How to make Country Style Pork Ribs in the Instant Pot

The other day, I wanted to make some of these BBQ country style ribs for dinner, but I didnt have enough time to cook them in the slow cooker.

Enter: The pressure cooker.

You guys know by now how much I LOVE my Instant Pot. I use it nearly every single day.

I have an ever-growing list of easy pressure cooker recipes that I make on the regular, so my Instant Pot stays pretty busy.

So, I followed these guidelines for converting a slow cooker recipe to a pressure cooker recipe. Instead of requiring 6-8 hours in the Crock Pot, these cook up in a mere 8 minutes. Yes, you read that right8 minutes!!

Now, obviously it takes a bit of time for the cooker to come to pressure and to release pressure, but all in all, theyre still typically finished in under 45 minutes. And theyre moist and tender, just like theyve cooked all day.

How To Make Pressure Cooker Bbq Country Style Ribs

Its so simple, I hesitate to even call this a recipe. Really, all you do is place the ribs into the insert pot of your Instant Pot.

Add in a bottle of your favorite BBQ sauce and some water , then stir it all up to combine it well.

Twist the lid on and cook for 8 minutes, followed by a natural pressure release.

After they are cooked, if you want to thicken the sauce a bit, you can add a slurry made with cornstarch and water, using the saute function to simmer the sauce until its thickened. This step is optional and is based on your preference and what youre serving them with.

You can very easily shred the pork or cut it into chunks, or leave the ribs whole. Ive done both and its yummy either way!

These pressure cooker BBQ country style ribs are perfect served over Instant Pot brown rice, Instant Pot mashed potatoes, or a bed of egg noodles.

You could also serve them with pressure cooker southern style green beans!

Classic comfort food in a fraction of the time. Whats not to love??

Ingredients In Instant Pot Dr Pepper Bbq Ribs:

  • Country Style Boneless Pork Ribs
  • Two Cans of Dr. Pepper Soda
  • Barbecue Sauce
  • It doesnt get much easier than 3 ingredients, does it?

My favorite ribs are the boneless country style pork ribs. They are all meat, and I can eat them with a fork.

f.a.q. Can I make this recipe with bone in ribs? Absolutely! I recently made this same exact recipe using bone in pork ribs, and it worked great!

Three pounds of boneless country style pork ribs fit perfectly in the bottom of my 6 quart Instant Pot. If your instant pot is smaller, adjust accordingly. I recommend not stacking the ribs on top of one another.

For this recipe I used Dr. Pepper Cherry. I loved that little bit of added sweet cherry flavor. Of course, regular Dr. Pepper works great, too!

f.a.q. Can I use another soda? or Can I use diet Dr. Pepper? Yes!! I have tried this recipe with a cola and with root beer. Both are delicious! Diet soda will also work if you are watching your glucose.

One can of soda just covers the ribs in the instapot.

Part of the second can of soda gets whisked together with some of your favorite bottled barbecue sauce. We always buy Honey Sweet Baby Rays. This is where if you wanted to kick it up a notch, you could use something spicy of you like.

The rest of that can? Pour it over ice, and put your feet up while your instant pot does all of the work for you!

    Arent they gorgeous??

When summertime nears I start thinking about barbecuing, my favorite smoked ribs recipe with a pork dry rub. Some days I dont get to preparing dinner early enough to do either of those methods though.

That is when this comes in really handy. There is a quick second step under the broiler to get the outside crispy but you can make them super tender and juicy in no time at all using this method.

  • Rack of ribs, country style is different than baby back as there may not be any bones or just a bit but its closer to cartilage texture.
  • Liquid smoke gives them a nice flavor.
  • Apple cider vinegar, or apple juice cider
  • Barbecue sauce
  • Our recipe for dry rub , or use your favorite bottled mixture
  • Beef broth is necessary for the pot to come to pressure
  • You could leave the rub off entirely if you wanted to, and the sauce is optional. I like LOTS of flavor though so the more the better if you ask me. OH, and youll need a trivet or small rack so the meat isnt submerged into the liquid.

Start With Classic Bbq Seasoning Rub

    Instant Pot Country Style Ribs

Good pork BBQ starts with the perfect seasoning rub. Our Best Damn rub is a combination of brown sugar, salt, pepper, onion powder, garlic powder, paprika and ground mustard. Together, these ingredients bring out the sweet flavors of the pork with the savory elements all in one robust combination. One of the things I love most about this rub is that the ingredients are so easy to find! You probably already have them in your pantry or spice rack. Each adds a unique element and works with the other ingredients to bring out the very best for our country ribs.

Country style ribs are a great make-ahead meal for meal planning. Store the cooked ribs in an airtight container with some of the liquid or sauce in the refrigerator. They keep for 2-3 days. You can freeze them too. Again, store in an airtight container with some of that awesome sauce. Keep them for up to 6 months.

    What Are Country Ribs

These ribs are not the typical rack of ribs you might be thinking of. Country ribs are a different cut of ribs, they come from the shoulder of the ribs. You can purchase both bone-in and boneless country ribs. I highly recommend buying bone-incountry ribs. They always seem to cook way more tender and flavorful. I love these ribs because they have more meat than a short rib and still coming out super tender and juicy.

Add the seared country ribs back to the Instant Pot and pour in the chicken broth, Worcestershire and liquid smoke. Then add a sliced onion on top of everything. Secure the lid and pressure cook on high pressure for 45 minutes. After the cook time is complete, let the pressure naturally release for 15 minutes. After that, you can quick release any remaining pressure.

Can You Overcook Country Style Ribs

Instant Pot Country Style Ribs with 4 Ingredients!

Answer: Heres the thing, certain cuts of pork are very forgiving in the Instant Pot. Fattier cuts such as pork shoulder are the most forgiving. Country style ribs are right in the middle in terms of being lean/fatty. For best results, follow the 45 minute suggested pressure cooking time. A few more minutes wont make a big difference, but any more and we might start to have an issue with the meat becoming very dry and brittle.

Why Do I Sear The Ribs

Searing is a technique to help seal in the juices of a meat. As a busy mom I honestly dont have time to do this step most days. So if you find yourself in that category dont sweat it. skip to the step of placing your ribs in the pressure cooker. But if you do have and extra 10 minutes then do it ð

PLACE YOUR RIBS IN THE PRESSURE COOKER

    • If you are cooking a fair a mount you will want to layer your ribs. Place a few down, dont over crowd them.
    • Drizzle some your barbecue sauce over
    • Layer another 4-6 ribs and repeat with the barbecue sauce
    • add one cup of water to your instant pot
    • cook your ribs on high pressure for 15-20 minutes, natural release.
    • remove from liquid and place on a foil lined baking sheet.
    • Coat once more with barbecue sauce. Brush it on so it is nice and coated.
    • Broil for a few minutes to caramelize the bbq sauce making it nice and sticky.

    Instant Pot Country Style Ribs

Oh boy! So youve not had country style ribs yet? Well let me tell you, youre in for quite a treat. While not being actual ribs, theyre thick cuts from the loin/shoulder area and are wonderful for traditional BBQ pork recipes. While slow cooking is a popular method for this dish, our Instant Pot speeds things up and takes it step further by allowing us to sear the pork first, thus creating a flavor profile that is just too good to be true.

How Do You Reheat Ribs And Keep Them Moist

If you use an oven set to 220 F with a little broth at the bottom of the pan. Cover with foil and bake for 15 20 minutes, then check and see if you want them warmer.

A microwave works too, and your air fryer will work wonders believe it or not AND will crisp the outside. Set to 350 F for a few min.

How To Make Country Style Ribs:

Season ribs with salt and five spice seasoning. Make sure to coat all sides and rub it in. Turn on 6-quart Instant Pot to sauté setting. Pour oil into the bottom of the insert.

Note: This step is optional, if you are short on time, you can skip the browning. Once the Instant Pot shows “Hot”, start adding in the ribs and brown each side

Remove browned ribs, set aside and continue browning the rest of the ribs. Don’t put too many ribs in the pot while browning or they will just steam and not brown. Add in additional oil, if necessary.

Once all the ribs are browned, turn off the Instant Pot. Remove any excess oil from the bottom of the insert. Then place all the ribs into the bottom of the pot. Pour half the bottle of Korean BBQ sauce over the top of the ribs.If you are cooking rice with the ribs, you’ll need a small, round pressure-safe insert that fits into your Instant Pot. I am using one of my springform inserts that I lined with nonstick aluminum foil so it doesn’t leak. Pour in water and rice into insert and gently stir. I just purchased some Steamer Inserts from Amazon that are made to fit perfectly into the Instant Pot. I also picked up some Gripper Clips to help with removal.

Place rice insert right on top of ribs. Make sure there is enough room around the sides of the insert or the Instant Pot won’t come to pressure.

Cover Instant Pot and make sure lid is in locked position. Turn the valve on the top to “Sealing.”

I like to add some sliced green onion to the rice.

How to make country style ribs in the instant pot

Rub the ribs down on all sides with the BBQ seasoning.

After you season the ribs you will want to cut them into 3-4 rib sections to help them it in the Instant Pot and then set them aside for now.

Then, you are going to pour in the apple juice, liquid smoke, and vinegar in the bottom of the Instant Pot.

Once you have done that, place the trivet into the bottom of the Instant Pot .

Now, place the ribs on the trivet trying to not overlap them too much.

Then, cover the ribs by returning the lid back to the Instant Pot and turn it to lock it into place.

Also, be sure that the knob is turned to the SEALING position.

Once all of that has been done, press the MANUAL or PRESSURE COOK button and set the timer for 25 minutes.

When the ribs are done cooking let the Instant Pot sit for another 10 minutes to let it naturally release some of the pressure, and then turn the knob to the VENTING position to finish with a quick release and take the lid off once the pressure is out.

It is time to preheat the broiler to low heat, and then remove the ribs from the Instant Pot and move them to a baking sheet that is lined with aluminum foil.

Before putting the ribs into the broiler, spread the BBQ sauce on top of the ribs. After that is done, place them into the broiler for 3-4 minutes until the sauce begins to caramelize.

You will want to watch the ribs closely to avoid them burning or drying out.
