When You Need To Replace The Gasket That Doesnt Have A Crack Or Tear

Other than wear and tear in your gasket, there are other occasions when you need a gasket replacement. Such as:

  • If the gasket becomes sticky or tacky, it should be replaced.
  • If the gasket material becomes too hard to stretch and fit the lid, it needs to be replaced.
  • If your gasket gets shrunk and doesnt fit the lid easily, you have to replace it.
  • If the gasket needs more than normal stretching to fit the lid, it should be replaced.
  • If you find that the lid has become too difficult to open or close, it means your gasket should be replaced.

There is a simple way to inspect the gasket. You can conduct a thumbnail test to monitor its quality. Apply a thumbnail pressure on the material and observe. If its a permanent dent, the gasket becomes too vulnerable to withstand the pressure and therefore, should be replaced.

However, its not the gasket that always turns out to be the culprit, there may be a problem with other things on the lid. So, while replacing the gasket, its a fairly good idea to replace other soft sealing parts along with it, such as the overpressure plug.

Wash Inner Pot And Steam Rack

The inner bowl and steam rack are made of stainless steel, so these can be washed by hand in warm, soapy water or placed in the dishwasher on either rack for tougher-to-tackle food stains or remains. Over time, you might notice water stains or discoloration on the bottom of the inner pot, which can be easily removed with vinegar. To renew the finish, pour 1 cup white vinegar into the stainless-steel bowl and let it sit for 5 minutes before pouring it out and rinsing with water. Avoid using steel wool or abrasive cleaners, which can damage the stainless-steel surface.

Kick Stubborn Instant Pot Pot Stains With Bar Keepers Friend

Instant Pot Sealing Ring – how to remove and replace

The Instant Pot’s inner pot is stainless steel, but if you’ve ever had stubborn food messes on your pot, you might find yourself questioning the stainless part of that promise. Whether you triggered a burn notice and have majorly stuck on food, or you just have some persistent buildup, some Instant Pot stains can be tough to remove.

But there’s a good tool for cleaning the Instant Pot’s stainless steel parts: Bar Keepers Friend. This cleanser is available either as a powder or cream and it’s well-known for its ability to remove persistent and tough-to-tackle stains. It’s non-abrasive, so it’s safe to use on stainless steel, though it is corrosive.;

Clean your pot by adding a small amount of water and sprinkling the cleaning powder inside, making a paste. Or, squeeze the cream cleaner inside the pot. Cover the area you’d like to clean and let it sit for one full minute . Then, come back and wipe it off, clean, and dry the pot before use.;

Using The Wrong Steam

The Instant Pot uses pressurized steam to cook food. That steam has to be safely released before you can open your appliance and remove your finished meal.

“It’s important to follow your recipe to know which way to release the steam. Manual or quick release is not the best option for recipes with a lot of liquid or high starch content, like rice and oatmeal, which may splatter out of the pressure release,” said Wolner.

It’s also important to follow instructions when a recipe notes that you should use the quick-release function rather than allow the Instant Pot to depressurize over time.

Using the quick-release means the food inside the appliance won’t become overcooked. Letting the Instant Pot release steam naturally is a better option for meals that include tougher cuts of meat or legumes you want to soften.
