Anyway My Point Is That I Didnt Want To Nurse My Baby And We Havent
My husband, my mom and I alternate the bottle feeding, and I pump every 3-4 hours. Some days hes fussier than others. But it seems like my supply has matched what hes needed, and hes regained his birth weight.
Its been a good two weeks. Truth be told, Ive ended up with a baby on me plenty, but I like the snuggles.
Why Should You Sterilize Your Jar
Expert chefs and scientists have always advised people to sterilize canning jars before using them. So, why is there such a need to do so?
First, you should understand the microorganisms living in the environment. At normal room temperature, there are always many viruses, bacterias, and germs coexisting with us.
Though we cant see them, they are still there, which doesnt mean the microorganisms arent harmful.
However, there are some cases that you dont need to clean jars. For instance, if you intend to do pressure canning the jars later, you dont need to sterilize because when using a pressure canner for the jams, you will steam or cook in the oven, right?
There are many different equipment available to sterilize the glass jars. Oven, steamer, saucepan, instant pot, etc., anything that provides heat and steam in a closed, air dry environment can work well to kill all bacterias and germs.
But the pressure cooker is considered the most preferred equipment because it is easy to conduct, quick to boil, simple to prepare, and super effective.

How To Do It:
The first thing to do is pour about 3 or 4 cups of water into your instant pot. The freshwater poured should be medium-heat, not boiling water.; We advise using a digital thermometer to check the water temperature for more conciseness.
Then, install the steam rack into the pressure cooker and fix it. Place the glass canning jars onto that tray and stabilize it later on. Next, please fill the instant pot max with more hot water.
The height must be one inch above the jars. In other words, the jar needs dipping into a hot water bath so the steam release when boiling can affect the jars quicker.
Please dont mistake our words. Its a must to put the jars bottom on the steam rack; otherwise, the instant pot can be broken down. Remember to pour fresh water into the instant pot max until it is one-inch submerged in hot water.
Consequently, turn on the pressurized cooker, close the jar lids, and bring it to a boil. We advise setting the target temperature up to 212 degrees Fahrenheit , and the ideal processing time for boiling is 10 minutes.
In case you live in a position higher than 1000 ft, then add an additional minute for each 1000 ft of elevation.
After boiling the jar for 10 minutes, turn off the pressure cooker, and take out the jar. It is sterile, hot, and ready to use. What about the instant pot, then? Just leave the steam rack and the boiling water at the same place for pressure canning.
It Makes Homemade Baby Food
Store-bought baby food can contain added sugars and dyes, and they are way more expensive than buying the raw fruits and vegetables that are the only necessary ingredients. Of course, you can make your own baby food without an Instant Pot, but it takes way longer. Instead of roasting sweet potatoes, for instance, parents can steam them in a fraction of the time by simply throwing them in the Instant Pot with some water. Once cooked, all they need to do is mash or whip them up and voila: fresh, inexpensive baby food with minimal ingredients. What’s The Difference Between An Instant Pot A Pressure Cooker And A Slow Cooker
Even though an Instant Pot can function as a pressure cooker, they’re different. To help clear the confusion, our Kitchen Appliance Lab experts at the Good Housekeeping Institute broke down the differences between these terms:
- Pressure cookers offer an easy way to get food on the table fast. Whether it’s an electric pressure cookers or stovetop pressure cooker, a pressure cooker drastically reduces cook time by raising the boiling point of water and trapping the steam. Once your food is done cooking, you can either release the pressure manually with the knob or wait for the steam to naturally release.
- Slow cookers are great for people who want to come home from work to a hot dinner waiting for them. They’re called “set it and forget it” appliances for a reason: Just throw ingredients in the slow cooker in the morning, and it’ll cook on low heat throughout the day. You can often set them to cook for a certain number of hours and then have it switch to a keep warm setting.
- Crock-Pot is a popular slow cooker brand. People often use its name interchangeably with “slow-cooker,” but the brand also makes multi-cookers.
- Instant Pot is themost popular multi-cooker brand, and basically all of the above!
How To Sterilize Bottles & Jars Using An Instant Pot
Being able to sterilise kitchen equipment and household items is an essential task to keep your kitchen safe and clean. Instant Pots make the task of sterilising jam jars, metal utensils and even baby bottles a quick and easy job with minimal mess and time.;
Washing containers before and after use in hot soapy water is a good way of cleaning. However, sometimes you do need to go that step further and sterilise jars and containers under a significantly higher temperature.;
Instant Pots are equipped to sterilise any household glass, silicone, and dishwasher safe plastics. You can either use the sterilise function available on newer models of the Instant Pot or pressure cook/steam for a short period of time on those without.
Do not use this method of sterilisation for any medical or industrial equipment.;

It Can Quickly Sterilize Baby Bottles And Pump Parts
The thing no one tells you about having a baby is that in the beginning, you will spend what feels like 70 percent of your free time washing and sterilizing bottles, nipples, and breast pump parts. And when your free time is the scant 25 minutes your baby spends asleep in his infant seat, all that Sisyphean time spent at the sink and stove hurts it really does.
I started off boiling everything to sterilize it, but the hard water in my city left a scaly white residue on the bottles, so I went looking for an alternative one that was hopefully quicker and more hands-off than boiling-water sterilization. I found it in the pressure cooker. The instructions for my pressure cooker had me place the washed parts on the cookers steaming rack, add a cup of water, bring the pot up to full pressure, and immediately turn off the heat. The process was fast and, except for the few minutes while the contents were coming up to pressure, could be stopped and resumed as needed. It became the only way I sterilized pacifiers, bottles, nipples, and pump parts for the duration of my sons infancy.
And although he is now a toddler, I still use the pressure cooker to sterilize his sippy cup parts every once in awhile especially after an illness in our household.
Cleaning The Lids And Rings
It is important NOT to boil the metal canning lids or their rings. The extreme heat of boiling water can harm the rubber sealing rings on;the;lids, which can result in a broken seal and contamination of the jar’s contents. Instead, most experts suggest that you simply place;the canning lids;and their rings into water that is simmering, but not boiling for 10 minutes to thoroughly clean them. You can use the same water that was used to boil the jars once it has cooled slightly.
Always follow the manufacturer’s recommendations. Some may specifically call for different methods for handling the lids and rings.;

Can I Use My Instant Pot For Canning
A frequently asked question around the internet is whether or not you can pressure-can in the Instant Pot and the answer is simply no. Unless you have the Instant Pot Max. If you have a different model of the Instant Pot, you can, however, do boiling-water canning, which is great for pickles and jams.
You may ask, What is the sterilize function on the instant pot?
With an Instant Pot, all you have to do is throw the equipment in your Instant Pot with some water and press the steam button . The steam is hot enough to kill any bacteria, ensuring that your baby wont come into contact with any contaminated items.
How Often Should I Sterilize Pacifiers
Pacifier: Anything that spends as much time in Babys mouth as her pacifier does, if shes a binky-fan, should probably be pretty clean. The Mayo Clinic recommends sterilizing pacifiers for under-6-month-olds before each use, and cleaning with hot, soapy water before each use for children older than 6 months.

Sterilize With The Microwave
If you purchase a microwave sterilizer, follow the manufacturer’s instructions for proper use. Note that your microwave must be clean before using the sterilizer. You should also check that all bottle parts, especially nipples and rings, are microwave-safe.;
It Can Mean The Difference Between A Home
Dinnertime during your childs first year of life is always changing. In the first few months, it is often whatever you can throw together and eat mostly one-handed; later it might be postponed until 9 p.m., after the baby has gone to bed. And once your almost-not-a-baby is old enough to eat with you, dinners might switch to 5:30 p.m. affairs in which you have about six minutes to wolf down your food before someone starts fussing.
At any point in this process, two things are probably true: You are really tired, and you dont have as much time to cook dinner as you need. Giving in to another frozen pizza or plate of scrambled eggs is appealing, but with the pressure cooker, recipes that are otherwise far too time-consuming become legitimate dinner options.
Quick Pressure Cooker Dinner Ideas
Of course, this is the pressure cookers main selling point, and one perk that will remain relevant long into parenthood which is why Id argue for putting a pressure cooker on your baby registry over, say, a bottle warmer or a fancy baby food maker. It is one gift that will quite literally keep on giving.

Reasons To Sterilize Baby Bottles
Babies have to be shielded from the all-pervasive disease-carrying agents that riddle the environment, particularly in the initial few months after birth. Keeping your babys bottle and its accessories squeaky clean is one such way to ensure the health and well-being of your tiny, vulnerable being.
Be it a glass, plastic, or silicone bottle, cleaning and sterilizing this feeding equipment is essential for the following reasons:
- It is very easy for pathogenic microorganisms to accumulate and thrive within the damp insides of the bottle. Bottles that have had milk stored in them and are not cleaned properly thereafter offer perfect breeding grounds for disease-causing bacteria and viruses. Subsequently, these microorganisms can gain easy access into your babys body, which can lead to bouts of vomiting, diarrhea, and other infections and illnesses.
- A newborn possesses only those disease-fighting antibodies that have been passed on from the mother during the last three months of pregnancy. This form of passive immunity begins to wane in the first few months after birth.
- The water supply at your home may be contaminated with disease-causing microbes or other impurities, especially if you do not use municipal treated water.
Avail An Electric Sterilizer
An electric sterilizer is one of the most convenient tools for sterilizing your babys bottle. This device gets the job done in no time and with minimum effort. High-temperature steam is used to kill the microorganisms in the bottles and teats.
Electric sterilizers are far more efficient than boiling or microwave methods as they obliterate the chances of any human fallacy.

How To Sterilise Jars In An Instant Pot
Storing food in glass is a great way to ensure that the food is properly covered, sealed, unexposed to air and therefore protected from contaminating germs. This will be even more effective if you sterilise the jars before using.;
Things like homemade jam or sauces need to be stored in clean sterilised containers otherwise there is a risk that they will quickly start to go mouldy. Also sterilizing jars for storing dry food such as rice, lentils or cereals also prevents them from being contaminated and will ensure they last much much longer.;
Here is the method for sterilizing jars in an Instant Pot.
First add some water to the bottom of your Instant Pot. This will vary depending on the size of your unit:
- 1 cup for a 3qt pot
- 2 cups for a 6qt pot
- 3 cups for a 8qt pot
Then insert the steam rack. This is very important because you dont want the jars to touch the base of the bowl. This may cause your Instant Pot to stop functioning and display errors.
Place your jars upside down on top of the steam rack. You can also add in the metal lids if needed. Once everything is in, secure the lid.
The settings you have available will depend on the Instant Pot model you have. The latest models have a specific Sterilise button, but with other models, you can simply select the Pressure Cook or Steam functions. Choose your available function, set the time for 15 mins and set the pressure to high. Press start and leave the Instant Pot to do its thing.
How To Sterilise Babies Bottles In An Instant Pot
Baby bottles and other food containers that you use for your children need to be cleaned thoroughly and often. An Instant Pot is a fantastic piece of equipment which allows you to ensure all of your childs utensils are adequately sterilised. Ive found that its significantly easier than cleaning all the individual bits and pieces of bottles, cups, breast pumps etc.;
To sterilise baby bottles, use the exact same method as described above for jam jars.
Make sure you take apart all the bottles so that all the separate bits have a chance to be properly sterilised. If you have small bits like straws or bottle tops make sure they are not going to fall through the gaps in your steam rack.
You may have to use a colander instead or place cheesecloth over your steam rack. This is again to ensure none of your items come in contact with the base of the Instant Pot while it is on.;
Once the Instant Pot has finished its cycle. Carefully remove the baby bottles and caps and let them dry on a clean towel before using.;Because this method is so simple and easy, you can use it regularly to make sure your childs food containers stay clean and hygienic.;

How Do I Prepare My Baby’s Bottles
Prepare your baby’s formula by mixing water and the appropriate amount of powdered infant formula. The packaging on the side of the formula container will tell you how much to use. Carefully follow the directions. You can use tepid tap water, as long as your local or state health departments have labeled it as safe to drink.
If you’re concerned about your water, you may sterilize it to kill germs. Here’s how:
- pour cold tap water into a teapot or saucepan
- place pot on the stove over medium heat
- bring water to a rolling boil, and let boil for about a minute
- let the water cool until it’s at room temperature
Test to see if the water is cool enough for your baby to drink by shaking a few drops of water on the inside of your wrist. If it stings, it’s still too hot. Once water has cooled, don’t let it sit longer than 30 minutes before adding it to the formula.
Once prepared, the formula is ready to feed to your baby immediately without additional refrigeration or warming. Formula that’s been prepared should be consumed or stored in the refrigerator within 1 hour. If it has been at room temperature for more than 1 hour, throw it away. And if your baby doesn’t drink all the formula in the bottle, throw away the unused portion do not save it for later.
