Can You Cook Pasta In The Instant Pot

BEST Instant Pot Chicken Noodle Soup Recipe

Absolutely, I frequently cook Instant Pot Mac and Cheese, its easy and wonderful. In the mac and cheese recipe, the pasta is cooked in the Instant Pot under pressure.

In this recipe, the Instant Pot cooks the chicken and veggies under pressure however it is used to boil the pasta using the saute setting at the end. While the noodles could be cooked under pressure in this recipe, the chicken and noodles need different cook times and the Instant Pot takes a lot of time to come up to pressure.

Can I Turn This Into Instant Pot Chicken Noodle Soup

If you want to add noodles, or even rice, to this soup, feel free to do so.

I definitely understand how chicken and rice soup or Instant Pot chicken noodle soup can be preferred by some.

Lately, Ive been leaving the added pasta and rice out as I follow a more low-carb and keto-friendly diet.

That said, you can add them into this if you wish like I did in this easy turkey rice soup, just know more liquid may be needed to keep it a brothy soup.

Alternately, I do have a great recipe for a Keto Chicken Soup you can test out if you prefer to keep the carbs at the lowest amount possible.

Instant Pot Chicken Noodle Soup With Cooked Chicken

You can make this Instant Pot chicken noodle soup with rotisserie chicken that you already have on hand, or you can use your own pre-cooked shredded chicken. Your broth wont be as flavorful, but its a speedy choice.

Tips And Tricks For The Best Instant Pot Chicken Soup Recipe

  • When you sauté onions and celery, I like the onions to get a translucent golden color. It will almost cook off by the time the soup is done, while providing a beautiful aroma.
  • Sauté the garlic quickly, just 1 minute, so it wont burn. This will give you a delicious fragrance.
  • The best chicken cut for this soup is split chicken breast with skin-on and bone-in. It will make your broth rich and flavorful.
  • I prefer to use Homemade Chicken Stock. Its so much healthier and more delicious!
  • The best part of the soup are green onions and parsley. The more you put, the better!
  • How To Make This Recipe

    Instant Pot Chicken Noodle Soup

This is an overview of how this dish is made. Youll find detailed measurements, ingredients, and instructions in the below.

    • Sauté the aromatics: Begin by cooking the onion, carrots, celery, and garlic until golden using the sauté function on the Instant Pot. Once those aromatic vegetables are ready, layer the chicken thighs on top and add a few cups of low-sodium chicken broth.
    • Cook the chicken: Seal the pot, set to cook on high pressure, and youre on your way to some delicious soup. It takes about 15 minutes for the Instant Pot to come to pressure and another 18 to cook the chicken. This recipe uses quick pressure release, so as soon as the 18 minutes are up, remove the chicken and shred it into tender, bite-sized pieces.
    • Cook the pasta and vegetables: While you shred the chicken, set the Instant Pot back to the sauté function and bring the broth to a simmer. Add the pasta, cook for a few minutes, then add the escarole and tomatoes and continue cooking until the pasta is al dente.
    • Put it all together: To finish the soup, return the shredded chicken to the pot, stir, then ladle the soup into bowls. Top with fresh parsley and grated Parmesan cheese, and youre ready to serve.

Tips For The Best Pressure Cooked Chicken

    • Youll need a 6-quart or larger pressure cooker for this recipe. The pot should be just big enough to fit a 3- to 4-pound chicken. If you have a larger pressure cooker , you can also get away with using a slightly larger chicken.
    • Be careful when doing a quick-release. This is because liquid-heavy pressure cooker recipes like this soup can release a lot of steam during the venting step after cooking.
    • Scared of steam? That’s ok! If you want to avoid the jet of steam entirely, you can wait for the pressure to release naturally. Just wait until the pressure cookers float valve has returned to its “down” position. This will take quite a while, though, since this recipe contains a lot of liquid.
    • Chicken jello?! Good chicken soup made with the whole chicken will often develop a jelly-like consistency once chilled, so don’t be alarmed if this happens to you! The soup will turn back into liquid when warmed.

    Can I Freeze This Soup

Yes! In fact, I like to keep mason jars filled with this chicken soup in the freezer. That way its easy to defrost some of this chicken soup when needed.

I prefer to freeze soup in wide mouth 16-oz mason jars. Just ladle the cooled soup into each jar, leaving about 1.5 inches of room for expansion in the freezer. Seal with BPA free, freezer safe plastic lids. The soup will keep for 5-6 months frozen.

When you are ready to defrost some soup, simply run the glass parts of the jar under warm water for a few minutes to loosen up the soup. Then invert the jar over a saucepan to remove the soup. Heat over medium-low heat on the stove top, covered, until the soup has defrosted and is warmed through. This usually takes about 15-20 minutes depending on how much soup you are warming up.

Should Noodles Be Cooked Before Adding To Soup

While this recipe doesnt specifically call for noodles, you could add them if you want. If you cook the noodles in the soup they will suck up most of the broth, so its best to cook noodles separately. However, its better to add the noodles directly to single hot bowl of soup instead of to the whole pot because the noodles will continue to suck up the liquid of the soup and become waterlogged.

Instant Pot Chicken Vegetable Soup | Quick & Easy!

I used chicken thighs with the skin for this recipe. I think the thighs have more flavor, and when youre sick and barely eating, you need the fat in your diet.

Fat is good for us, and I am working on including more healthy fats in our diet.

If you are someone who really doesnt like the skin or thighs, you can remove the skin, and/or use chicken breasts instead for this recipe.

Just know that you wont have as rich a flavor in the end as you would if using chicken thighs.

  • How To Make The Chicken In The Instant Pot

  • In the Instant Pot add the canned soup, water, and chicken breasts. The Chicken can be thawed or frozen. The more frozen the chicken the longer the Instant Pot takes to get up to pressure. The cooking process does not start until it is at pressure and the lid can no longer move.
  • Put the lid on, set it to seal and set the timer for 15 minutes. Allow releasing of the pressure naturally, about another 10 minutes until the lid can be removed.
  • Next: Put the rice, water, salt & oil in a smaller pressure cooker set to the rice setting (or high pressure for 4 minutes. If you only have one Instant Pot no problem, just cook your rice on the stovetop like regular.
  • After the 10 minutes natural release, give the chicken a stir and serve over rice.

Add Aromatics To The Soup Base

I use a classic combination of onions, carrots, and celery or a mirepoix to add sweetness and rustic flavors. Leaving the root vegetables in larger chunks gives a pop of color and a heartier texture. After the chicken is seared and removed, the vegetables briefly saute.

The moisture in the veggies helps to deglaze the pan of any flavorful browned bits from meat and juices. Cooking the minced garlic, thyme, and rosemary in oil infuses their fat-soluble compounds into the soup for a more pungent lingering herbaceous taste. A dried bay leaf is added into the chicken stock to season the liquid gently.

    • Sear the chicken
    • Add the chicken back
