Another fabulous aspect to this recipe is that it works wonderfully as a make-ahead freezer meal. Just cut and season the ribs and prepare the sauce as directed in the recipe. Transfer the uncooked seasoned ribs to a freezer-safe plastic storage bag and pour the sauce over the top. Remove as much air as possible from the bag, seal, and label it. Transfer the bag to the freezer and use within 4 to 5 months for the best quality.

When you are ready to cook the ribs, allow them to thaw safely in your refrigerator overnight and then proceed with the recipe, as directed for either the slow cooker or Instant Pot method.

However, your Instant Pot takes longer to come to pressure when you cook FROZEN country style pork ribs.

Remember that cooking time wonât start until your Instant Pot comes under full pressure.

Pressure Cook Country Style Ribs

Close lid, then turn Venting Knob to Sealing position.

  • Pressure Cooking Method: Pressure Cook at High Pressure for 15 minutes + 10 minutes Natural Release

After natural releasing for 10 minutes, carefully turn the Venting Knob to Venting Position to release the remaining pressure.

Once the Floating Valve drops, open the lid carefully.

Instant Pot Country Style Pork Ribs Tips

You can use boneless or bone-in country style pork ribs for this recipe. Ive made it using both types, and it works either way.

The liquid is a combination of water and apple cider vinegar in addition to the barbecue sauce. For added flavor, you can substitute beef stock or chicken broth for the water if desired.

For ribs that are 2 to 2 1/2 inches thick, I pressure cook them for 35 minutes at high pressure. If your ribs are thinner, you can lower the cook time to 30 minutes.

Some people like to broil the ribs to caramelize the barbecue sauce coating after the Instant Pot cook time. I personally dont think its necessary, but youre welcome to add that step if youre looking for an oven-baked finish.

For a spicy version of country ribs, add a little cayenne pepper or Cajun seasoning to the salt and pepper spice rub. I use my homemade barbecue sauce, but you could use a spicier store-bought bbq sauce as well.

How To Turn This Into A Freezer Meal:

  • Place ribs, ketchup, brown sugar, vinegar, liquid smoke, and seasoned salt into a gallon-sized freezer bag. Place freezer bag into freezer and it will last up to 90 days.
  • When ready to use, dump ingredients from bag into Instant Pot and add 1/2 cup of water in with the frozen food. Place the lid on top, move the valve to SEALING, and press the MANUAL button. Set timer for 45 minutes. Let the pressure do a NATURAL RELEASE when the timer is done. Follow the rest of the instructions as written.

What are country style pork ribs?

They are really chops or blade steaks because bones arent really present at all. Instead it may have connective tissue and fat inside that should be eaten around. Great to bbq or pressure cook.

If you can find these I think they are up there with the best. With more meat and the absence of large bones that take up space and make it take a bit longer to get tender, we love em.

As with making any other sort of meat in an Instant Pot you will need some sort of liquid. This is necessary to essentially steam the protein and become fork tender.

Water is an option if you have nothing else but broth is best.

Another thing you need to remember if youre using this method is youll want a natural release of steam for a bit at the end. This will keep the moisture inside the ribs so they come out the perfect texture.

  • 10 to 15 minutes will do it and once that is up just release remaining pressure and carefully lift lid off to go on to next step of browning.

Almost every brand will come with a trivet of some sort. I love this one with handles because then its easy to lift all of them out. Remember they will be so tender that a fork or tongs is likely to break them apart.

Instant Pot Ribs is the easiest way to achieve tender, juicy ribs. Whether youre using baby back ribs or pork loin ribs, pressure cooking tenderizes the meat in a fraction of the time so you can enjoy homemade ribs even on busy weeknights.

How Do You Steam Ribs In An Instant Pot

Instructions Put 2 cups of water in instant pot. Put your trivet in. Place the bowl with pork ribs you marinade earlier on top of the trivet. Once it is done cooking in Instant Pot, wait for 5 minutes then turn steam release handle to venting. Open the lid and carefully lift the pork ribs out from the pot.

How Long Do You Pressure Cook Ribs

Instant Pot Country Style Ribs

With these beef ribs. I like to cook them for 22-25 minutes in the Instant Pot. You can do a natural pressure release for 10 minutes or you can let it fully depressurize by itself. I havent seen much of a difference in the texture/tenderness of the beef ribs.

Now pork ribs take less time to cook in the instant pot than beef ribs do. Pork ribs tend to only take around 18 minutes to cook in a pressure cooker. I once tried to cook them for the 22 minutes like the beef ribs and it was a disaster.

It basically turned into pulled pork because they were so tender they were falling apart when I tried to recipe the pork ribs from the instant pot.

This country style rib recipe is super easy to make. You can use your favorite store bought dry rub, make the one I have included or if you have one you really like you can use that!     To start off, beef ribs as the name states, are from a cow. These ribs are typically the ribs that come from a rib roast. These are the ribs labeled beef ribs in the grocery store. When you have a boneless ribeye, these are the bones that have been removed.

    Why Do I Sear The Ribs

    Searing is a technique to help seal in the juices of a meat. As a busy mom I honestly dont have time to do this step most days. So if you find yourself in that category dont sweat it. skip to the step of placing your ribs in the pressure cooker. But if you do have and extra 10 minutes then do it ð

    PLACE YOUR RIBS IN THE PRESSURE COOKER

    • If you are cooking a fair a mount you will want to layer your ribs. Place a few down, dont over crowd them.
    • Drizzle some your barbecue sauce over
    • Layer another 4-6 ribs and repeat with the barbecue sauce
    • add one cup of water to your instant pot
    • cook your ribs on high pressure for 15-20 minutes, natural release.
    • remove from liquid and place on a foil lined baking sheet.
    • Coat once more with barbecue sauce. Brush it on so it is nice and coated.
    • Broil for a few minutes to caramelize the bbq sauce making it nice and sticky.
