Easy INSTANT POT RIBS Recipe

So here’s the list of all the ingredients I used to make the Memphis-style dry rub seasoning: smoked paprika, chili powder, ground cumin, garlic powder, onion powder, ancho chili powder, cayenne pepper, ground mustard, light brown sugar, dried oregano, ground ginger, black pepper, and salt.

I only used a small amount of sugar . Feel free to add more according to your taste if you like to be on the sweeter side.

This DIY dry rub seasoning isn’t only good for ribs, but would also be good for chicken wings or thighs, brisket,;pork;chops, or tofu!

Can I Make Baby Back Ribs In My Slow Cooker

Absolutely! If you dont have an Instant Pot, these can be made in the slow cooker with just a few adjustments namely the amount of liquid and the cooking time. Slow cookers require less cooking liquid so youll want to reduce the water or broth to ½ cup. Plan to cook your ribs for about 8 hours on low or 4 hours on high or until tender.;

How To Make Baby Back Ribs In The Instant Pot

  • Start with the best-quality pork baby back ribs you can find. Youll need about a 2 2 ½;lb. rack to feed 4 people. Anything more than 3 lbs. and you wont be able to get them into a 6-quart Instant Pot and still close the lid. Our go-to for high-quality, heritage breed pork is ButcherBox. They seriously have the BEST baby back ribs!;
  • Cut your rack of ribs into 3 equal-ish sections. Sprinkle each section with the spice dry rub, focusing more on the meaty front side of the rack than the backside. Now give each section a good rub. At this point, you can wrap them up and return them to the fridge if youre just prepping ahead then cook them at a later point. This can be done up to 2 days in advance.
  • Place the wire rack into the Instant Pot insert then add 1 cup of water or broth to the pot. Select the Saute function. This will essentially pre-heat the Instant Pot and decrease the amount of time it takes to get up to full pressure.
  • Now creatively arrange the 3 sections of ribs in a teepee or pyramid formation so that theyre not lying on top of one another. Standing them rather than stacking means they cook faster and more evenly.

How To Make Instant Pot Country Style Ribs

Instant Pot Ribs Recipe. How to cook? [Video]
  • Dry rub: mix all of the dry rub ingredients in a small bowl. Pat the country style ribs dry then generously coat the sides of each with the rub. Use your fingers to massage the rub into the meat until it sinks in and becomes a deep red color.
  • Pressure cook: set the metal trivet in the bottom of a 6 qt Instant Pot. Pour the water or beef broth in the bottom then arrange the ribs evenly without overlapping. Add the garlic on top of the ribs, close the lid and pressure cook for 40 minutes then allow it to naturally release for 15 minutes.
  • Broil: use tongs to carefully remove the country style ribs from the Insant Pot and transfer them to a sheet pan. You may need two as they’ll likely fall apart easily. Lather the ribs with your favorite BBQ sauce then broil them on high for 2-3 minutes, until the BBQ sauce starts to bubble.

This is my go to recipe for beef ribs. Just as good as the restaurants and cheaper! My family loves it and it’s so easy.I used beef short ribs one time and the meat was not tender since they are thicker. I know now to buy the other kind which can be found at Costco. Great to see the other options if out of ACV. Thanks for sharing!

The cooking time was way too long in my instant pot. The ribs basically lifted out of the meat and a large amount of the meat slipped into the cooking fluid and was no longer anything that resembled ribs. It basically became barbecue flavoured soup with a lot of vinegar in it ???

    Susan,

The goal for this recipe is to have the ribs tender enough to fall off the bone. However, it is important to keep them out of the liquid. In Step 6 of the recipe card, the directions are to place the trivet into the inner liner before placing the ribs into the pressure cooker. The trivet keeps the ribs out of the liquid and must be used. If you do not have a trivet, balled-up aluminum foil added to the liner works great. I am curious if this step was skipped and is why the meat slipped off the bones and into the liquid.

How Do You Remove The Membrane From The Ribs

Cut-Up Spare Ribs in the Instant Pot~Easy Cooking

Depending on the type of ribs you bought, they may or may not come with a fatty membrane attached to them. To some people this may freak them out, and those of us high fat loving people just start to drool. If you want to remove the membrane from the ribs, first you need to

  • Slide a knife between the membrane and bones on the ribs.
  • Wiggle the knife a little bit. You will notice the membrane will start to loosen. Do this until it tears apart from the bone.
  • Now, take the edge of the membrane and tear it away from the bone. You may want to use a paper towel or gloves to help you hold onto the membrane. Thats it!

How Many Ribs Can Fit In An Instant Pot

    Instant Pot Ribs

This will depend somewhat on the type of rib you use. Our favorite is the lean, mean baby back rib, which is cut from the spine of a pig, near the loin. These ribs are just so tender and theyre our go-to. Four pounds of baby back ribs equals roughly 14 ribs, and that fits comfortably into a standard Instant Pot.

How To Make The Best Instant Pot Ribs:

Start with;baby back ribs. We cooked two racks together, but you can cook one rack or up to three in a 6 quart or larger pressure cooker.PREPARE THE RIBS:Remove the Membrane Skin on the under side. The membrane is very thin and located on the underside of the ribs.;Simply slide a butter knife under the edge to get ahold of it and then pull it off. If you cant seem to find the membrane, sometimes the membrane is removed before you get the ribs home.Once youve pulled it off, you can leave your rack of ribs in one long section or you can cut your slab of ribs into two to three sections.MIX UP THE SPICE RUB:Mix up the spice rub and massage it into the rack of ribs on both sides.Place the rack or ribs into the pressure cooker.ADD TO THE INSTANT POT:Place a metal trivet at the bottom to help keep the ribs off the bottom of the instant pot where the water and liquid is added.Add the water, liquid smoke and apple cider vinegar to the bottom of the slow cooker. Cook for 23-26 min on high for defrosted or fresh ribs.FINISH THE RIBS OFF UNDER THE BROILER:Once the ribs are finished cooking, allow the Instant Pot to naturally release the steam for a few minutes.Place the rack of ribs on a sheet pan covered in foil and brush on your favorite bbq sauce.Place the ribs under your oven broiler set to high and broil for a few minutes to crisp up the outside.

    About These Instant Pot Ribs

The magic of this recipe is that you dont have to slow cook the ribs for hours and hours to get that fall-off-the-bone texture everyone wants in ribs. Thanks to the pressure cooker, you can achieve that in about an hour, and its completely hands-off once you get the ribs into the Instant Pot. This cooking technique is also perfect for short ribs, which also usually take hours in the oven.

The first time I made these, I honestly expected them to be alright, but not outrageously good. Now, I wont pretend that they hold a candle to slow-smoked ribs. Nothing is better than that! But these ribs are really good: they fall off the bone and have really great flavor especially if you grab that liquid smoke and add it to the mix. And theyre ready to eat in just an hour and a half!

Now if you arent in a hurry and youd rather get the ribs going in the morning when you have a little extra time, try slow cooker ribs. They turn out great every time and they are pretty much hands off all day.

Paired with homemade BBQ rub and topped with this BBQ sauce recipe, Instant Pot ribs are outstanding and will satisfy every single rib craving you have. Or try spicy sweet cherry chipotle BBQ sauce. So good! Speaking of fruit and BBQ, these peach bbq ribs sound so incredible if youd prefer to get outside and grill!

Whats The Difference Between Baby Back Ribs And Spareribs

    Baby back ribs

    • Cut from where the rib meets the spine after the loin is removed. The upper ribs are called baby back ribs.
    • Each rib rack averages 10 to 13 curved ribs that are 3 to 6 inches long and weigh about 1 1/2 to 2 pounds, which feeds about 2 people.
    • Very tender and lean, more expensive than spareribs.

    Spareribs

    • The meaty ribs cut from the belly of the animal after the belly is removed. They are usually trimmed down by cutting away the hard breastbone and chewy cartilage, so the slab is more rectangular in shape
    • The rib rack is flatter than baby back ribs, which makes them easier to brown. Each slab usually weighs 2 1/2 pounds or more and feeds about three to four people.
    • A lot of bone but also a higher amount of fat, making them very flavorful if cooked properly, and less expensive than baby back ribs.
