  • My top tip with any Instant Pot recipe is to always follow the directions as listed. These recipes are tested over and over again and are written in detail for the perfect results.
  • Break the pieces of ground turkey as you cook them. You want to get them small enough so that youre not eating clumps of turkey with your quinoa but also so that each small morsel gets enough seasoning and flavor.
  • Remember to deglaze the pot as best as you can to avoid the burn notice.
  • Do not season the turkey! Add the seasoning with the water and sauce combination after the turkey has cooked.
  • When it says DO NOT STIR, take note of that. This is also to avoid the burn notice as there are certain ingredients that will absorb moisture much faster than others. Layering helps with that.

Are You Getting A Burn Notice When Making This

Several of my readers have reported burn notices when making this recipe. This hasnt ever happened to meand Ive made this recipe more times than I can countso Im not sure if it has to do with the Instant Pot model or an oversight in the method of preparation. Here are some things to consider:

    • Lightly browning the ground turkey on sauté mode is imperative. If you simply drop the meat into the pot and let it go, meat will stick to the bottom of the pot and will stick, signaling the burn notice.
    • When you add the salsa and chilies, its important to give everything a good stir. This allows you to scrape any bits from the bottom of the pan that might stick and signal a burn notice. This is similar to deglazing the pan.
    • If you tend to get burn notices with your model, go ahead and add a few splashes of water in addition to the salsa and green chilies to see if that helps.

    Recipe: Instant Pot Turkey Chili

Simmering a pot of chili for hours on a cold winter day is one of my favorite things to do or at least it used to be.

Last winter I planned on making a batch of chili, got all my ingredients together, and life happened. After spending all day running around, I thought that chili was no longer an option. Then I eyed my Instant Pot. To be honest, even though I love pressure cooking, I was skeptical. Would the fast cooking time rob the chili of the deep flavor that I love?

    Answer: Nope!

Pressure-cooked chili, to my surprise, turns out as flavorful as chili thats cooked on the stove for hours. The first time I made it I kept saying to my husband, I cant believe how good this turned out! This turned out good, didnt it? I think he agreed but his mouth was full of chili, so who knows what he said.

Not only do I now cook my chili in the pressure cooker, but Ive also started using ground turkey in place of ground beef. I know, I know. For many die-hard chili fans, this is insane because chili = long simmering beef, tomatoes, beans, and chili powder. And nothing else.

I understand. Chili is one of those dishes that you like how you like. Personally, Ive yet to meet a version of chili I dont like. Traditional chili, veggie chili, turkey chili I like em all.
