I have done this with all different types of protein. That is why I put together this list of how to cook frozen meat in Instant Pot post. If youve ever freaked out because literally all you have in the house is rock hard proteins in the freezer, this might save the day .

We first shared this Instant Pot frozen pork shoulder recipe because it was such a hit. I do realize that different cuts have slightly different liquids and cook times so I decided to add the butt as well.

Lets start with a few basic tips:

For reference, this is the pressure cooker I have and use for all recipe creations.

    Different Cuts Of Pork Chops

The different cuts of pork chop availablepork loin blade chops, pork chop end cut, center-cut loin chop, boneless pork chops, to name a few I saw in my grocery storeall are made of different types of meat with different cooking needs.

Some of these chops need a long cook time to break down the tissue to result in fork-tender chops, while other chops need liquids and braising to help keep the meat from drying out.

Boneless pork chops are generally very lean and benefit from cooking in the moist pressure cooking environment. They also cook more quickly than other chops.

If you want more in-depth information, the Kitchn has a great explanation of the different cuts and what they look like and recommended cooking methods.

Why Are My Instant Pot Pork Chops Tough & Dry

The main reason you ended up with dry or tough meat would be because you have overcooked them. Also, remember that pork chops are usually lean, and does not require a lot of cooking time.

Therefore, for the best result, I would recommend using thicker cuts, and also bone-in chops that are well-marbled.

    How Long Does It Take

Making pork chops in the instant pot is relatively quick and easy. The whole process is under an hour, but the active cooking time required by you is far less:

    • Prepping and searing takes about 10-15 minutes.
    • 1 minute of active cook time.
    • 1o minutes to heat the Instant Pot.
    • 10-15 minutes natural release time.
    • Then 3-5 minutes to thicken the gravy.

This means it takes about 40 minutes total, but 25 of those minutes are inactive cooking time, which means you dont have to do anything or be there for any of it. So really, it is about 15-20 minutes of your time to make this amazing dish!

This Instant Pot Pork Chops recipe is going to be one of your favorites. We use boneless pork loin chops which come out so tender, and juicy. Then after they are cooked we make a very flavorful mushroom and onion gravy to pour over the top of them which just finishes them off to make one of our best instant pot recipes.

They are so easy to make and in less than 30 minutes your family will be asking for seconds.

I love pork chops and I make them so many different ways but my choice is always center cut with a bone and fat around the edges for the best flavor. 9 times out of 10 I will not go for a boneless piece of pork because its very lean and can tend to be dry especially if you overcook it.

However, I finally found a way that I love to make boneless Instant Pot pork chops and I am happy to share this recipe with you. In fact, Stephanie and I fight over who is going to eat the leftovers the next day, so by making extra pork chops in the instant pot we can both enjoy them 2 days in a row!

    Different Thickness Of Pork Chops

Boneless Pork Chops Instant Pot Recipe

The thickness of the pork chops you purchase also makes a huge difference in the cook time of the meat. Thicker pork chops are less prone to overcooking.

This recipe calls for boneless pork chops that are at least 1-inch thick.

If youre using a thinner chop, youll need to cut the pressure cooking time down. For example, if theyre 1/2-inch thick, I would cut the cook time in half and use an 8 minute cook time with a 10 minute natural release.

If you want a sliceable pork chop, not fork tender, you can use a 1-minute cook time with a complete natural release.

I cooked these chops at High Pressure for 15 minutes, which resulted in a fork-tender chop that registered over 200°F!

However, if you like your pork to be firmer and need a knife to cut through the meat, you will want to reduce the cook timeas long as an instant-read thermometer shows the chops are cooked above 145°F, theyre good to go.

How Do You Defrost Pork Chops Quickly

If you need to thaw your pork chops, whether you want to cut them down into pieces first or you want to brown them, it is easy to thaw pork chops. I dont like to thaw my meat in the microwave. I find that parts of it are always starting to cook and it just takes away from the meal. To thaw pork chops you have a few options. First is to remember to take them out the night before and leave them in the refrigerator. The second option is the microwave, which as I said, I dont like. The third option is the best in my opinion because like I said, I never remember to take something out in time.

    • Step one- You want to clear the sink and run the hottest water you can.
    • Step two Fill the sink with the hottest water you can, just enough to cover the pork chops.
    • Step 3 Put the frozen pork chops, still wrapped in the hot water to defrost. How long depends on how thick the pork chops are.

Once they are thawed, you can proceed to make the pork chops in the Instant Pot. However, you can cook frozen pork chops in the Instant Pot.

Frozen Pork Loin Instant Pot Recipe Tips:

    • You can use a 6 quart or 8 quarts Instant Pot or pressure cooker. Both work great. The main difference is that in the larger sized version you can cook/add more meat.
    • Also, it is important for pressure to release naturally. DO NOT do a quick release of the meat when the cooking time is up. It is best for it to do the release naturally, and wait for it for about 10 minutes.
    • You can skip the Honey Garlic Sauce and simply cook without it. However, the sauce is really complimenting this dish nicely, and we love using it.

Why Are My Instant Pot Pork Chops Tough

Pork chops are usually quite lean and will become tough once they are overcooked. For best result, you will want to use bone-in pork chops that are well-marbled. The bone will act as a shield for the surrounding meat. A thicker cut of pork chop will work better in the Instant Pot as it is less likely to overcook.

What Do I Need To Make Pork Chops

    Instant Pot Smothered Pork Chops
    • You will need the following ingredients:
    • Cooking oil: grape-seed oil, canola or vegetable oil will work.

    • Salt and pepper
    • Worcestershire sauce
    • Beef broth: You can also use chicken broth
    • Potatoes: I used Yukon gold potatoes, but you can use russet potatoes. If using russet potatoes, peel and chop potatoes before adding to the instant pot.

    Wine Pairings For Pork Chops:

    • Pork pairs awesomely with Pinot Noir. Its a light bodied red that doesnt overpower the flavors and the bright acidity is a nice match for the slight fattiness in the pork.
    • Rose is another great match for these pork chops. Its bright acidity pairs so well with the brown sugar rub on these pork chops.
