As I mentioned, this mesh steamer basket is the one I own and use in my Instant Pot. Ive had it for a long time now, and its held up really well.

This particular model is quite durable and keeps its shape well, and the silicone covered handle makes it really easy to remove from the Instant Pot. Its also a large basket with a large capacity.

I also appreciate that the feet of this basket arent coated with silicone, so food wont get stuck in the crevices between silicone and metal.

I know some people have qualms with mesh material, finding it difficult to clean.

However, Ive found that if you rinse the steamer basket immediately after using, it is actually very easy to keep clean. But if you allow it to become caked with dry food, it wont be such an easy job.

Plus, its dishwasher safe, which is always a benefit, in my book!

Silicone Instant Pot Steamer Basket

Silicone baskets offer a bit more flexibility, and can be easier to handle without getting burned.

This silicone steamer basket features a pleated design, so it is flexible enough to fit into both 6-quart and 8-quart Instant Pots.

The handles hook together during cooking, so they are out of the way of the pressure cookers lid. When its time to put it away, the handles interlock around the feet of the basket, requiring less space for storage.

Its heat-resistant up to 450F and is made with BPA-free silicone.

As with any steamer basket, youll want to rinse it shortly after cooking, so food doesnt collect in the holes. Then, pop it in the dishwasher for easy cleanup.

Ive reviewed several Instant Pot multi-cookers and this one is distinctly different in its appearance. The all-black curvy plastic exterior is unlike the models that have come before it. I actually like the matte black plastic finish, but I can see how it might be too plasticky for some peoples taste.

Another big difference is that the lid is hinged and theres a sliding bar at the front of the appliance to lock it. Again, this is a smart machine and itll tell you when its necessary to slide the bar across to the locked position, these reassuring notifications mean you cant get it wrong.

The next thing I immediately noticed was the lack of any steam release controls on the lid. When pressure cooking, the steam release is fully automated, you just select one of three options when programming it to start and it takes care of the rest. So for anyone nervous of pressure cooking, this model simplifies the process and allows a completely hands-off pressure cooking experience.

Each of the 13 functions has its own button on the flat touch control panel. Then, once youve selected the cooking function, time and temp buttons allow you to adjust the settings using the central dial. And as I said, the display walks you through any necessary steps, such as when to lock it and when to insert the pressure cooking cover. I think its the most intuitive Instant Pot to-date and its fast becoming my new favorite.

Perfect Steamer Baskets And Inserts For Your Instant Pot

I am often asked about perfect steamer baskets for the Instant Pot available here in the UK so I thought I’d compile them in one place, the Feisty Tapas blog .

The inner pot of the 5.7 litre / 6 litre / 6 quart Instant Pot has a diameter of 20 cm so you need something that will fit in there .

The inner pot of the Instant Pot 8 litre has a larger diameter and you can choose pretty much any steamer basket for that one.

For the 3 litre / Mini Instant Pot, you’ll need something smaller. The umbrella / collapsible type of steamer is perfect for this.

Of course, your Instant Pot also comes with a trivet which you can use to steam ingredients but a steamer basket will make life much easier.

The lid fits on top of the Instant Pot, turning it into a mini convection oven that adds roasting, baking, broiling, reheating, and dehydrating functions to the multi-cookers already long list of programs. But while it saves you from buying yet another space-hogging appliance, its not exactly compact: Its 11 inches wide and 7 inches tall. And its not compatible with all Instant Pot models, so be sure to check here before you buy.

The lid comes with an air-fryer basket that you slip into the Instant Pots stainless steel inner pot. The downside is that the 3.5-quart basket is quite small. It may not make sense for large families, but its just right for couples or people cooking for one, or if youre willing to do multiple batches.

Though you need the basket to crisp up fries, you can use the air-fryer lid with just the Instant Pots stainless steel pot to brown and bake. I pressure-cooked a whole chicken in the stainless steel pot and swapped out the lid for the air-fryer lid to crisp up the skin. The result was a tender, juicy chicken with golden-brown skin.

Collapsible Instant Pot Steamer Basket

The nice thing about a collapsible steamer basket is that it opens and closes to accommodate different sizes of pots.

The downside is that they can be somewhat shallow in depth, reducing their ability to accommodate much food.

This particular model is made with stainless steel and includes a safety hook tool to use when removing the basket from the Instant Pot.

However, in my opinion, thats just one more thing to fumble with when trying to remove hot food, and one more thing to keep up with in a sea of kitchen tools. But, it does help to keep your hand away from the steam.

The manufacturer says the steamer can expand to fit 3-quart, 5-quart, 6-quart, and 8-quart models, as the steamer can have a diameter between 5.5 and 9.5, depending on how far it is expanded.

I appreciate that it collapses down, giving it a small footprint for easy storage.

It does have silicone wrapping around the feet of the basket. Silicone feet can sometimes be difficult to keep clean.

But if you want a flexible option that can fit more than one size pot, this collapsible model could be the best steamer basket for you.

Then there is the RSVP . It has a good price BUT you have to use pliers to gently bend the handles up and down to snap them off, otherwise the basket doesn’t fit. It’s very important to bear this in mind. Some people have successfully bent the handles inwards to make it fit. I’m not too familiar with this one but people who have it seem happy with it.

**Edited to add: I now have this one, I managed to snap the handles myself after a bit of trying, despite the fibromyalgia so it can be done, I use it a lot**
