Ingredients And Variation For Canned Fish Soup
- I grew up always using just 1 can of salmon because it was cheaper.
- If you can add 2 cans, then the flavour will be richer and the soup will be more filling.
- No need to remove the skin and bones from the fish. Canned salmon bones are already really soft, cooking them further will make them even softer. I love eating them.
Carrots and onions
- As I mentioned above, if you are cooking the soup on the stove and have time then try sautéing the veggies separately and adding them towards the end of cooking. The flavour of the soup is different with this method.
- If you dont have time to do that, then you can totally start with sautéing onions and carrots and then add the rest of the ingredients and cook together, just like in the Instant Pot Soup instructions.
- I only use basic salt, pepper, bay leaf, and peppercorns because this is what my mom used when she made this fish soup in Russia.
- You can use your favourite fish soup spices and seasoning if you prefer. I like Old Bay Seasoning and Dried Dill with fish soups.
- I use Better than Bouillon paste almost exclusively for most soups.
- You can use Vegetable stock or Chicken stock. Or any stock you have, actually.
- If you dont have access to stock powder or Better than Bouillon, I like using Vegetta seasoning.

How To Cook Instant Pot Salmon
Slice the whole lemon in thin slices and set aside.
Mix oil, paprika, Italian seasoning, black pepper and salt together to form the marinade.
Rub fresh or frozen salmon fillets with the marinade ensuring all parts are well covered.
Pour water in the pot of the instant pot pressure cooker, then place trivet in the pot.
Arrange marinated salmon fillets in single layer on the trivet then place lemon slices on them. Make sure the lemon slices are equally distributed on them.
Close the instant pot with it’s lid and turn the vent to sealing position. Set to manual pressure cook high and after the cook time, do a quick release.
When the IP is depressurised and safe to open, take off the lid and take out the cooked salmon fillets.
Serve and enjoy.

This Instant Pot salmon recipe is one of those quick and easy go-to recipes that you will find yourself making again and again. You can readily have this meal on the table in under 15 minutes – perfect for a busy weeknight. Best of all, it consistently comes out moist, flaky, a delightfully flavored.
The recipe is made with two 6-ounce servings. This is the recommended serving size for most. I do find that for both myself and my daughter, that these are a bit large. We also have some leftovers that we can either reheat or use on top of salads.
Storage Tips: Leftover Instant Pot salmon can be refrigerated for up to 3 days. It makes a great protein topping for salads.
Serve your Instant Pot salmon with a small side salad and some halved grape tomatoes, if you like. Otherwise, you can make the Instant Pot Rice Pilaf or any other Instant Pot, microwave, or stovetop rice dish to serve with the salmon and asparagus.

- Frozen or fresh salmon filets
You can also add onions, garlic, carrots, parsnips, peppercorns, fennel leeks to the pot for a more flavourful and aromatic poaching liquid.
Also, feel free to use your favourite spices instead of Old Bay Seasoning. You can use some lemon salt and lemon pepper.

Canning In An Instant Pot
If you love to can veggies or other foods, and you own an Instant Pot, you may be wondering if you can do canning in an Instant Pot.
The answer is you can, but it is limited, and not all types of canning processes can be done in an Instant Pot.
There are two ways to can foods. One is called water bath canning, and the other is called pressure canning.
The pressure canning is the type used most often for foods with low acid levels, and water bath canning works the best with food that has a high acid level.
Thats because high acid foods will be able to kill any bacteria so you wont get food poisoning. Meanwhile, low acid foods cant do that unless you mix the two types of food together. That can be done by adding in things like vinegar or lemon juice.
So, how can these methods be modified to be safe if you want to can using your Instant Pot? Here are some ways to do that:
Water Bath Canning
Firstly, you have to make sure your canning jars are sterilized, which can be done in an Instant Pot.
Put some water and vinegar into your Instant Pot, then put the number of jars that will fit onto a rack and put it inside the Instant Pot and close the lid. Then run the Instant Pot steam cycle for at least a full minute.
Next, pour in more water and vinegar into the Instant Pot, then pour the food into the hot jars and be sure to leave at least a quarter-inch of headspace in the jars.

The Instant Pot is a fast and convenient way to thaw and cook a frozen block of ground beef. Use your pressure cooker to quickly cook frozen hamburger meat and have cooked ground beef ready for your recipe! Place the trivet in the pot and add the water. Place the frozen block of ground beef on the trivet.
A Word About Cooking Times
Dont forget that food begins to cook in your pressurecooker while the pot is coming up to pressure. And it continues to cook whilethe pressure is being released, too, whether you use a natural or quick release.It may seem like 3 minutes isnt enough time to thoroughly cook a salmonfillet, but when you take that extra cooking time into account, it is justright.
If your salmon fillet is still frozen when you put it in thepot, add 3 minutest to the cooking time.

Wine Pairings For Salmon With Lemon
- Pinot Gris has a nice acidity to it and its notes of citrus will pair well with the lemon-dill sauce.

Salmon Chowder is a hearty chunky & a very comforting soup thats cooked with nutrient rich veggies like onion, leek, potatoes & carrots in a milk or cream based white sauce with lots of juicy fresh or canned Salmon pieces.

How Long To Cook Instant Pot Fish Soup
It took me a few tries to come up with the proper measurements and timings but I finally have it figured out. Well. Almost.
I cook this Fish Soup for 3 minutes on high pressure in my Electric Pressure Cooker. But I have a sneaking suspicion that it would work even if cooked for 2 minutes.
Yet, I am afraid to try. Salmon will be cooked in 2 minutes but I am not sure about the potatoes. I think they will. Yes? Maybe?

Instant Pot Salmon Cook Time
Salmon is a delicate fish, so youll want to be careful not to overcook it. No one likes dry salmon! Ive found that 4-5 minutes on the Pressure Cook setting with an immediate release is the perfect cook time for making salmon in the Instant Pot.
The temperature for fully cooked salmon is 145º. I always check it with my Thermapen to make sure it is safely cooked all the way.
