Can add some more time if the meat isnt shredding easily?- meat should shred easily after the cook time. Leaner cuts may not shred as well. If this is the case, you can try adding increments of 10 minutes onto the cook time.

I used my stand mixer to shred the pork instead of forks. Its quick and easy, but be sure and remove as much fat from the pork as possible before shredding it in the mixer.

Its best to shred the pork shoulder while its still hot. It will go a lot faster and will literally fall apart/of the bone. Lift the cooked pork shoulder out of the instant pot and use two forks or a pair of shredding claws to easily pull apart /shred the meat.

Chefs Tip: If you used a bone-in pork shoulder you can save and freeze the bone to make stock once you have a few bones saved, or simply toss the bone out at this point.

By now you should have a pile of deliciously tender pulled pork and a bunch of liquid in your instant pot. Well use this liquid to make a tasty sauce for the meat! The liquid should have naturally thickened while it was cooking with the pork shoulder, but if you feel it is a little thin, just use a cornstarch slurry to thicken it.

How Long Is Leftover Pulled Pork Good For

Leftover pulled pork is the same as leftover ham or any other cooked meat. According to food safety guidelines, the safe storage life of these cooked meats is 3 to 4 days in the refrigerator if stored properly.

    • This means you need to either wrap leftover inside tinfoil, or I prefer to keep it inside a freezer bag with the air removed so it doesnt dry out.

    Cooking The Pork Roast

There will be some browned bits on the bottom of the pot from searing the pork. You need to get that up by adding liquid to the pot. Dont do this while saute mode is still on. Its very hot and the liquid will steam up immediately. It can be dangerous to stand over the IP when its that hot.

Add the broth and use a whisk to scrape the bits up. This adds great flavor to the broth, which will be used later to make the gravy.

Then put the trivet in the pot. Place the roast on top of the trivet. This is to keep the roast whole and to steam it rather than boil it. If you want, you can leave out the trivet. I just think the roast looks nicer when cooked on the trivet.

Close the Instant Pot and set it to pressure cook . The length of time you need to cook the pork for will vary depending on the size of your roast.

It is recommended that you cook a boneless pork roast for 15 minutes per pound in the Instant Pot.;For a 3 lb roast, that would be 45 minutes. Cooking it this long will lead to a sliceable roast, not a fork tender roast.

    PRO TIPS

If you want to slice the roast, dont cook for longer than 45 minutes or it can become dry. If youd rather have a fork tender roast that falls apart like shredded pork, you need to cook it for much longer, like 60 to 70 minutes. If shredded pork is what youre after, Id also recommend placing the roast directly into the pot, not on top of the trivet.

If its under, you can turn it back on for 5 or 10 minutes.

Making The Most Of Your Multicooker

Like most things in life, the best way to get over the fear of doing something is, well, to do it. Start small, create some simple successes for yourself, and before you know it, you’ll be off and running. Some good candidates for a first-time user include hard-boiled eggs, rice, or beans. These basic items will help you become familiar with how your multicooker works before you take on a full meal to serve your family.

Part of creating simple successes means picking recipes that are best suited to the cooking method you’re choosing. Because pressure cookers rely on water to create the steam that builds up pressure in the pot, you’ll want to choose recipes that are commonly cooked using a liquid-based method, such as braising. Most recipes that have historically been cooked low-and-slow in a lidded dutch oven will translate very well to the pressure cooker. Tender meat roasts, richly-flavored soups, beans, grains, and tubers all fare well under pressure.

Easy Instant Pot Honey Pork Steaks Notes:

    • The purpose of the trivet is to keep your meat off the bottom so it doesnt burn on the bottom, but still lets the meat cook in the ingredients without the need for a bowl since this recipe wouldnt fit in the bowl I use in my Instant Pot.
    • It takes a bit for the sauce to thicken. Be patient, but also remember that it gets thicker as it cools.

Add The Olive Oil Onion And Garlic To The Instant Pot

    Turn your Instant Pot to the sauté setting. Mince the garlic cloves and chop the onions, and add them to the pot with some olive oil. Make sure the olive oil is well spread out for even cooking, and sauté the onions and garlic while gently stirring to avoid sticking. After about five minutes, the onions should soften and start to become translucent. At this stage, it’s time to add the some liquid to the pot to make sure the pork cooks to a delightfully tender consistency.;

How Long To Cook Pork Roast In The Instant Pot

When you roast a pork butt in the oven, it takes about 40 minutes per pound. The Instant Pot is MUCH quicker.

In the Instant Pot, you should cook a pork butt for 15 minutes per pound. What does that mean? That means that you set the Instant Pot to pressure cook for 15 minutes per pound. If the roast is 3 pounds, you set it to pressure cook for 45 minutes.

The roast ends up being in the Instant Pot for longer than just those 45 minutes though. Before the pressure cooking starts, the Instant Pot spends time coming up to temperature. That can take as long as 10-15 minutes.

Then, after the pressure cooking time is up, the pressure needs to be released. I do what is called a natural release for 10 minutes. A natural release happens if, when your pressure cooking time has reached zero, you do nothing. Basically, the heater of your Instant Pot stops heating at that point, and then the pressure inside slowly dissipates.

I do the natural release for 10 minutes whenever cooking meat in the Instant Pot because a quicker release results in a drastic change of temperature that can make meat seize up and get tough.

So do the natural release for 10 minutes and then switch the valve to Venting and let the remaining pressure escape. You then open up the Instant Pot and take out the roast.
