How Much Rice Can I Cook
One last rule of thumb to keep in mind is that youll need to cook at least 1 1/2 cups of rice in a 6-quart pressure cooker to get nice, even results. This is because the bottom of the pot isnt perfectly flat, but slightly concave. If you use less rice, the grains in the middle of the pot will not cook as evenly, since they wont be submerged in the water as much as the rice on the sides of the pot.
On the flip side, dont overfill your pressure cooker with too much rice, either! It should be half full or less when youre cooking any grains, beans, pastas, or other foods that can tend to foam up. I find that I get the best results when I cook between 1 1/2 and 3 cups of rice at a time.

Tips To Make The Best Yellow Rice
Make sure to use a good quality long grain rice like white basmati rice for this instant pot yellow rice recipe.
I recommend using long grain chefs secret brand of white basmati rice.
Make sure to use good quality ingredients including the best turmeric powder. If any of the ingredients are past date, I do not suggest using them.
You may add more flavors to the yellow rice to make more seasoned yellow rice if you wish.
For example, you may like to add a little lemon juice or lime juice or even add black pepper powder or little parika if you wish to spice it up at bit.
You may also add more flavors like garlic, onion powders which are easy to add and will add great flavors to the rice.
Also make sure to use fresh and clean cilantro leaves and/or curry leaves for garnishing!
To add even more flavor to the yellow rice, you may use broth like vegetable broth instead of plain water to add even more flavor to the yellow rice and to make it even more delicious and healthy!

If you have leftovers, simply place in an airtight container. Your rice will store for up to five days in the fridge when it is stored properly.
You can reheat in the microwave or opt to reheat on the stove. If you heat on the stove I suggest adding a little water or chicken stock to help keep it moist as it reheats.
If you dont add a little liquid it could dry out as you warm in a pan.

Wondering why you should try the from scratch method instead of using prepackaged bags of yellow rice? First, while making prepackaged rice that includes a seasoning packet is tempting because there’s no need to measure out spices, the amount of sodium in said packet needs a second look. Just 2 ounces of dry pre-packaged yellow rice typically has over 30% of your daily recommended sodium intake.One popular prepackaged brand had 750mg, compared to less than 200mg in this recipe. With homemade, you can control the sodium level and be assured that you’re cooking with real, not artificial, ingredients.
Second, with an Instant Pot, making your own yellow rice from scratch couldn’t be easier. Third, the flavor in this rice is amazing! Even my family, who like to stick to the same familiar dishes, loved the new flavors in this rice. We’ve yet to serve this rice to a crowd who didn’t devour it.
Pressure Cook Yellow Rice

Then, add 1 tsp turmeric powder, ¼ tsp table salt, minced garlic cloves, 1 tbsp regular soy sauce, and 1½ cup unsalted chicken stock in Instant Pot. Mix well.
Add 2 cups Jasmine rice in Instant Pot, then make sure all the rice is submerged in the chicken stock mixture.
Finally, layer 1 cup 100% pure unsweetened coconut milk on top . Do not mix.
With Venting Knob in Venting Position, close the lid, then turn Venting Knob to Sealing Position.
- Pressure Cooking Method: Pressure Cook at High Pressure for 5 minutes, then 10 minutes Natural Release.
After 10 minutes, release the remaining pressure by turning the Venting Knob to Venting position.
Remove the lid carefully.

How To Freeze Yellow Rice
Also, did you know that you can freeze leftover yellow rice and then steam it in the microwave later, just like those little bags of frozen rice you can buy at the grocery store?
So easy and far less expensive! All you have to do is put a couple of cups of cooled cooked rice into a zip-top freezer bag, press out excess air, and put it in the freezer.
When you are ready to warm the yellow rice, simply open the bag, add in a couple of tablespoons of water to the bag, and put it in the microwave for about 3-5 minutes. Easy peasy!

Instant Pot chicken and yellow rice is a tried and true recipe that has fed our family time and time again. Tender and juicy chicken, flavored rice, in one hearty dish. If you are looking for a beginners Instant Pot recipe this one fits the bill.
Having four boys has trained me to cook hearty meals. This is a delicious one-pot hearty meal. I love to serve it with a side salad and my boys demanding tummies are full.
Other Ways To Make This Dish
- Add some heat: You can add a healthy pinch of crushed red pepper flakes to make it spicier
- Add some smokiness: Add about 1 tsp. smoked paprika or ground cumin to give it a smoky flavor the smoked paprika will change the color a bit.
- Mix it up: Use lime juice and lime zest instead of lemon and add cilantro
- Use quinoa, buckwheat or even cauliflower rice in place of rice. You will need to change the cooking time and water based on what is required for that grain. Omit all but ¼ cup of water for cauliflower rice -and simply saute the cauliflower for 7-10 minutes after cooking the onions.

What Type Of Chicken Do You Use For Chicken And Yellow Rice
Generally, I use a boneless skinless chicken. I love to shred the chicken once it has finished cooking and then you get bits of chicken and rice in every single bite. If you use bone-in, you just wont have that shredded aspect. I like to use bone-in if I make this on the skillet so I can brown the skin for a crispy texture.

Why Do You Want To Rinse Your Rice

This yellow rice recipe calls for you to rinse the rice before you cook it. Is this really necessary? You can certainly cook your yellow rice without rinsing it, but it’s better if you do.
Rinsing your rice will remove any debris that are clinging to the rice, but more importantly than that, it will remove the surface starch. That surface starch is what causes the rice to be gummy and to cling together.

Fixing this is actually pretty simple.
