Instant Pot How To Cook Steak In A Pressure Cooker

The answer to this question depends on a series of variable factors.

First, we have the shape of the steak. Are you cooking an entire piece or will you cube/shred the meat?

If youre cooking an entire piece , you should also decide on the result youre aiming for . Still, regardless of the case, you shouldnt use thick pieces the heat must be able to penetrate the meat from top to bottom.

For a rare steak, you only need to use the saute function. For medium and well-done you will need to top the sauteing with some pressure cooking.

I like my steak well-done so I usually leave it in the Instant Pot for about 15 minutes, but you should also adjust the time and temperature according to the size of the steak.

    How To Marinate Pork Steak

Definitely, it is easier and faster to buy already marinaded steaks. But nothing will bring you more satisfaction than making this dish from starch. There is no big deal in marinating steaks. Just combine it with spices and leave to rest. Do not be afraid and play with the spices to find your favorite combo.

So you grab your steaks and absorb the excess water with a paper towel. In case you bought a whole piece of meat, then cut it into thick slices of about 2 cm. I found this thickness perfect for steak as the heat quickly penetrates it, and it remains juicy.

Perfect add to steak is paprika, ground garlic, Old Bay, salt, and freshly ground pepper. So sprinkle cuts generously and then drizzle some olive oil. Add some bay leaves and mix everything. The meat will absorb the aroma of the spices, and the taste will be more intense. Let the steaks chill in the marinade for at least 30 minutes. If I want the meat more enhanced then, I leave it marinating in the fridge overnight. The longer it stays in the marinade, the tastier it gets.

In the context of meat, the grain refers to the direction that the muscle fibers are aligned.

In the photo of flank steak above, you can see that the fibers run horizontally from side to side. The cut of meat isnt the only determinate in how tender it is, its also HOW you cut the meat. When you cut against the grain you cut through the fibers and shorten them. This makes the meat easier to chew.

Tip #5 Remove Stuck On Food

If your recipe calls for browning meat or anything else that leaves sediments stuck to the bottom, be sure to deglaze the pot before starting it. Fortunately, this is fairly easy as EVERY IP recipe requires liquid. All you need to do is add some of that liquid after you remove the meat, keep your pot on the sauté function, and work off food residue as the liquid heats up. If you dont, those pieces will continue to burn during the cooking process.

But dont toss out that liquid!! It probably has great flavour and will taste amazing in whatever youre making. Feeling a bit confused about this one? Dont worry, most Instant Pot recipes will tell you to deglaze the pan and now you know why and how!

How to Cook a Steak in the Instant Pot

The most common way to cook a ribeye steak is to grill or saute it to medium-rare, preserving the tender juiciness that the marbling of the steak provides. Pressure-cooking is best-suited for a large, tougher piece of beef that’s not naturally as tender.

The high pressure that the steam creates into the pressure cooker breaks down the tough fibers of these cuts, allowing them to taste like they’ve been slow-cooked, simmered or braised for hours. Ideal cuts of meat for pressure-cooking include chuck roast, beef ribs and oxtail.

Here’s how the pressure cooker works: The liquid within a sealed, airtight pot builds up pressure, which raises the boiling pot of the water.

The higher temperature of the liquid not only cooks the food faster but also forces moisture into the food, which allows it to become tender much more quickly than with other cooking methods.

According to Utah State University Extension, pressure cooking also retains more nutrients than other methods of cooking, as food cooks more quickly and very little liquid is required.
