How To Make Cabbage In The Instant Pot
Step 1: core the cabbage and roughly chop into pieces. Set aside.
Step 2: Turn the instant pot to sautee and add 1 tablespoon of the butter. Add the minced garlic and sliced onion and cook for 2-3 minutes, until the onion is translucent. Be careful not to burn as the pressure cooker cooks fast.
Step 3: Add the vegetable broth and remaining butter to the instant pot, then place the chopped cabbage on top.
Step 4: Place the lid on the instant pot and set to sealing. Cook on high pressure for 7 minutes. Hit cancel, then do a quick release.
Step 5: once the pin has dropped, remove the lid safely from the instant pot and add salt and fresh ground pepper to taste. Stir and serve with a slotted spoon.
This recipe is so delicious! Perfect as an easy side dish when you need something fast.

How To Make Easy Instant Pot Cabbage
First, set your Instant Pot to saute and let it completely heat up. While the worlds greatest pressure cooker is heating up roughly chop your cabbage and dice an onion.
Change the setting to Manual on the Instant Pot, add the remaining vegetable broth and the chopped cabbage. Close the lid and turn the venting knob to the sealing position. Now, cook on high pressure for 5 minutes.
Once its finished cooking allow the pressure to release naturally or simply do a quick release. Personally, I like to let it release on its own so the cabbage can marinate in the veggie broth and spices a little longer.
Once the pressure is gone just remove the lid, season with salt and pepper, stir the cabbage and serve.
Thats it! It is literally one of the easiest pressure cooker recipes you can make.
NOTE: If you want more crunch cook for 2-3 minutes. And, if you want your cabbage super soft cook for 6-7 minutes.

- Sweet yellow onion I like to slice the onion thin so that it mixes in with the cabbage and becomes indistinguishable. Mostly so my kids dont complain that Im feeding them onions.
- Garlic It really is best to use freshly minced garlic in this recipe so the flavor punches through, but if you dont have any on hand jarred minced garlic will work in a pinch.
- Beef bouillon A bouillon cube or bouillon paste will work, or if you have beef broth, sub the water + bouillon for an equal amount of broth.
- Beer I prefer a light beer in this recipe.; We want the feel that it would be served in a cute Irish Pub, we dont actually want it to taste like a pub.

To preserve its vitamin C content you should only cut and rinse cabbage right before cooking or eating it, not beforehand.
- Generally when I buy it from the produce section of our local grocery store there is a plastic wrapping over it, unlike lettuce. This will keep it a bit cleaner but as with any vegetable it may have a bit of dirt and/or debris on the outside.
- I like to discard the 2 top leaves covering the outside because those are generally what has the dirt on it.

There are two ways for cooking cabbage in Instant Pot, which also applies to any instant pot vegetable:
Instant Pot Boiled Cabbage You cook the cabbage directly in the water in the instant pot inner pot. Imagine that you add water to your inner pot, load it up with cabbage and then pressure cook. But this method is simply a faster version of boiling cabbage on the stovetop.
When you boil cabbage, you lose a lot of its nutrients and it often strips it of flavour and makes it bland. Like when you had cabbage fed to you as a kid and thought not that cabbage mush again!
Though, if you have a lot of cabbage to cook at once, then this can be a great way to feed several people via the instant pot.
Instant Pot Steamed Cabbage In my opinion this is the best option. What you do is use a container to keep the cabbage out of the water. How To Prepare Cabbage For Cooking
In order to cook this cabbage in the Pressure Cooker, start by washing and cutting the cabbage. First, cut the cabbage in half. Then core the cabbage by removing the tough stems. I cut a V shape around the core and remove it.
Lay the cabbage side by side and cut each half into four separate pieces. Then, slice across the pieces and cut cabbage into 1 inch pieces. It shall fall apart into a ton of pieces but that is ok.
Prepare The Cabbage For Cooking
Youre going to need to start with a medium-size head of cabbage and wash it well. Next, remove a few of the outer leaves to get down to the cleanest part.
Slice the cabbage head in half and remove the core by cutting a V-shape around it. After that, lay the flat side down on your cutting board and slice into 1 pieces, then cut those in half. You just want to get a rough cut into bite-size pieces.

Because you steamed it in the pressure cooker, it will be almost ready to eat so just chop it up and store in air-tight container for later use. It keeps well in the fridge for up to 4 days.
You can turn it into Cabbage and Bacon side dish or anything you like. It will need about 10 minutes of sauteing on the hob to make it. I also like to upgrade the cabbage and bacon side and cook it with wine, fresh parsley, caraway seeds and fill homemade Sweet Potato Flatbread with it. Its delicious!
Tips for making instant pot stuffed cabbage rolls
Rice Feel free to use any type of cooked rice you like. Long, short or medium-grain will all work well.
Ground meat I used a combination of beef and pork. Now, you can use anything you like. It also does not have to be a mixture of 2 types of meat.
Tomato passata is a type of pureed tomatoes. It is like a thicker tomato juice. Some brands also might call it tomato puree. That is the best thing to use. If you dont have it, try buying canned plum tomatoes and puree them in a food processor or blender. Do not use concentrated tomato puree that is completely something else! By the way, you can double the tomato sauce, if you like these pressure cooker stuffed cabbage rolls with a lot of sauce.
If you see that some of the leaves are very large, either cut them in half and fill both parts or you can trim the ends, when rolling them.
Cooked stuffed cabbage rolls should last up to 3 days.

Im no fan of cold weather except when it comes to soup or stoup . The other night I pulled out my Instant Pot and made this delicious cabbage, potatoes and sausage dish which we all loved.

One of the things I love about making soups or stews in the Instant Pot rather than stovetop is that I can set it and leave it alone. Dont get me wrongsometimes I enjoy hanging out in the kitchen stirring and piddling about, maybe enjoying a glass of wine as I cook. But there are days when I have other things to do or maybe just want to read and drink tea in the library and its nice to know that dinner is cooking away on its own without further attention from me.
This particular cabbage dish is easy, economical, and very hearty. It also makes great leftovers so while you can definitely cut this recipe in half, dont hesitate to make the full amount if you have the means of heating up leftovers for lunch.
I made it with smoked sausage but it would also be good with bacon or leftover ham. You can also make a vegetarian version by omitting the meat and using vegetable broth. A couple of drops of Liquid Smoke could be added to give it a smoky, meaty flavor if desired.

How To Cook Cabbage In An Instant Pot
A couple of things that add lots of flavor to dishes are onions and garlic and thats the case with this Instant Pot pressure cooker cabbage as well.
Begin by dicing up your onion and garlic. Then, place them along with 1/4 cup vegetable broth into your Instant Pot insert and set it to SAUTE.
Allow the onions to begin to darken just a little and then add another tablespoon of the veggie broth or water and stir them around a bit.
Next, add the Italian seasoning, low sodium soy sauce, the rest of the vegetable broth, and the chopped cabbage. Stir it up well enough for the seasonings to get all over the cabbage.
Your pot is going to be very full, but the cabbage shrinks a lot when cooking so it will make more space in there. Place the lid on and lock it into place. Set to MANUEL and the time to 5-minutes. Also, make sure the vent is set to the SEALING position.
Once cooking has finished and the timer goes off, carefully use a large spoon, dishcloth, or potholder to turn the vent knob and do a quick release to allow the pressure to come down.
