Instant Pot Beef Curry

This rich, savory Japanese-style beef curry is typically made with little blocks of store-bought Japanese curry roux. Since the dish comes together so fast in an Instant Pot®, we use the time gained to make a homemade roux with basic pantry ingredients. Combined with Worcestershire sauce, tomato paste, grated apple and beef broth, the result is a mildly sweet, spicy curry packed with extra umami. You can serve it over white rice or udon noodles. You can also make it without the beef and pour the sauce over Japanese-style breaded and fried pork or chicken cutlets .

Whats In This Instant Pot Oatmeal

This Instant Pot oatmeal recipe can be made using steel cut or old-fashioned oats, so feel free to use whichever you have on hand. Besides the oats, heres what youll need to make perfectly creamy oatmeal:

  • Water
  • Cinnamon stick
  • Kosher salt

One of the things that you need to know about making oatmeal in the Instant Pot is that the oatmeal turns out best when you use almond milk rather than dairy milk in your recipe because almond milk wont scorch.

I used Almond Breeze almondmilk Vanilla;for this master recipe but you could use any of the flavors from Unsweetened Original to the Almond Coconut Blend Original that work equally well. Almond Breeze is available in both refrigerator cartons and easily store-able, shelf-stable cartons so its always easy to have it on hand.

Ive shared some of my favorite oatmeal toppings further down this post, so keep reading to find out all the ways you can jazz up your morning bowl of oatmeal.

Steel Cut Oats Vs Rolled Oats: Whats The Difference

Steel cut and old fashioned rolled oats are the same whole grain cereal oat, and carry the same nutritional values, theyre just processed differently. They are both:

  • High in soluble fiber to keep you full and keep things moving
  • Naturally gluten free
  • Nutrient dense and a top-10 superfood
  • High in beta glucan for lowering cholesterol

Here are the differences:

Rolled oats are oat kernels that are steamed and then rolled into akes, then toasted, creating a flatter surface area so they cook quicker.

Steel cut oats are less processed by steel blades, making them chunkier and take 3-4 times as long to cook as old fashioned oats.

Unless you make them in the pressure cooker that is. Then theres only about 1 minute difference in cooking time!

How To Make Pot Roast In A Pressure Cooker

Instant Pot Meatloaf

In our photos, we are using a 6-quart Instant Pot, which is an electric pressure cooker. Other brands make electric pressure cookers, too. If you own one of them, you should be able to use this recipe without any problems .

Step 1, Season the beef and bring to room temperature. Ive already touched on this above, but Ill quickly do it again, here. After testing, we found that when we left the beef out on the counter to come closer to room temperature before cooking it, the pot roast was much more tender at the end of the cook time. I also love that the beef gets a chance to sit with the salt for about an hour before cooking. In this time, the salt seeps into the meat and helps to season and tenderize it.

Step 2, Brown the beef on all sides. By browning the beef on all sides before cooking at high pressure, we add color to the meat and add lots of flavor to the pot. For a one pot meal, brown the beef right in the pressure cooker using the Saute function. If your pressure cooker does not have this function, simply brown the beef in a heavy pan on the stove. After browning, I remove the beef so I can move onto the veggies.

Step 5, Pressure cook until the beef is tender. As I mentioned above, the time you need to cook will vary depending on how large the piece of beef is that you are cooking. We have found that a 3-pound roast takes 60 minutes at high pressure before it is tender.

Do You Have To Soak Beans

Another good question! And my answer isit depends.

A lot of people say that soaking your beans beforehand will help make them easier to digest. There are studies that show it does, others that say it doesn’t make a difference at all. So I guess my point here is that it depends on your body.

If you find that beans are hard to digest, or that they give you gas/cause bloat, then you should probably soak them. If not, then you might be fine not soaking!

HOWEVER when it comes to cooking, that’s where the real benefit of soaking your beans lies. When you soak your beans, your cooking time is cut by at least 75% . So if you’re in a rush, then for sure soak your beans!

note: If you do soak your beans, soak them overnight!

Pot roast is more of a method than a specific cut of meat. To make it, sear a large cut of beef until browned on all sides, and then cook it with aromatics like herbs, onions, carrots, and broth until its melt-in-your-mouth tender.

You can make this in a Dutch oven on the stove-top, in the oven, in a slow cooker, and in a pressure cooker. In this recipe, we are using a pressure cooker to make the pot roast. A pressure cooker takes the cook time down dramatically.

How To Make Baked Potatoes In An Instant Pot

The only equipment you’ll need when making baked potatoes in your electric pressure cooker is the trivet that comes with the Instant Pot. Alternatively, you can use your own metal steamer basket.

  • Clean the potatoes. Scrub the potatoes under cool running water and pat them dry.
  • Prick with a fork. Working your way around each potato, poke each one a few times with the tines of a fork to make small, shallow holes. This will help a little steam escape and keep the potatoes from bursting while cooking.
  • Prepare the Instant Pot. Add 1 to 1 1/2 cups of water to the inner pot of the cooker. Top with the metal trivet that comes with your Instant Pot or your own steamer basket. The water should come close to the bottom of the trivet without touching the potatoes.
  • Add the potatoes. Place one to four small cleaned and pricked potatoes on the trivet in a single layer.;
  • Cook the potatoes. Lock the lid, turn the valve to sealing, and program the Instant Pot to cook at high pressure for 12 minutes. For medium potatoes and large potatoes , Manning recommends 15 minutes and 18 minutes, respectively.
  • Use a natural release. Let the pressure release naturally before opening the lid. Open the lid away from you to deflect any steam.
  • Test for doneness. Use a sharp paring knife or fork to poke each potato and make sure they are done. If not, return them to pressure for up to five minutes.

Which Instant Pot Model Is Right For You

    • The 6-quart Instant Pot is ideal for most people, but if youâre a singleton or a student, then the 3-quart model is best. For large families, or simply those who like to make a lot of food, then the 8-quart model is a good choice.

    Clean It Carefully And Frequently

The inner pot is dishwasher safe, which is great, but the rest has to be cleaned by hand. Also, donât make the same mistake I did and accidentally spill something hot directly on the cooking element. The outer shell is hard to clean because you canât put it in the sink â electricity and water donât mix, after all â and you risk damaging the appliance. As for the lid, hand wash it after every use. Youâll also notice after a while that the sealing ring â the rubber/silicone gasket on the inside of the lid â might develop an odd smell as it absorbs the scent of the food youâre cooking. I recommend soaking it in a vinegar solution, or you could also put it on the top rack of your dishwasher for a couple of cycles.
