Ninja Dual Zone Vs Instant Dual Basket
The Ninja Foodi Dual Zone air fryer came out over a year ago, popularizing simultaneous air frying in one machine. I really enjoyed the Dual Zone when I tried it, but I found the sync and match finish modes quite confusing to get the hang of.
Because the control panel of the Instant Vortex Plus Dual Basket Air Fryer is digital, it only comes up with relevant buttons or settings as you’re getting started. This makes it easier to select SyncFinish and SyncCook without getting confused.
Both air fryers look great, but I do prefer the look of the Ninja. The smaller control panel is less prone to smudges, although it does make the controls a little more fiddly.
It’s hard to pick a clear winner on cooking. Both are great, but the Instant Dual Drawer does have the ClearCook doors that make it easy to peek inside. The inserts are also marginally easier to remove.

The Instant Vortex Plus Dual Air Fryer is the brands jab at Ninjas top-of-the-line compact convection ovens. Its competing directly with the Ninja Foodi 2-Basket Air Fryer.
Both machines offer the same functionality and pricing. The only advantage of the Instant Pot Vortex Plus Dual Air Fryer is the see-through glass panel. Thats really it. So I guess it just depends on which brand you like.

Lets go over its capabilities for a bit.
The Instant Dual Air Fryer is also a 6-in-1 multicooker like the 6-Quart Instant Pot Vortex Plus. It can air fry, broil, roast, bake, reheat, and dehydrate.
It also offers two complementary features like the Ninja DZ201 and Ninja DZ401SyncCook and SyncFinish. Thats the equivalent of Match Cook and Smart Finish for the Ninja brand.
SyncFinish is useful when your recipes are different, but you want them to finish cooking simultaneously. SyncCook, on the other hand, is just a shortcut for synchronizing cooking times on both baskets, say when youre making fries on the same drawers.

Setting Up The Instant Vortex Plus Dual Basket Air Fryer
This model is relatively lightweight and arrived preassembled. Its main panel is touchscreen, so when off, the unit is minimalistic on first appearance.
Two manuals came with the air fryer, one about safety and warranty and the other about getting started.There are two 3.8L capacity baskets. At roughly 40cm across, it’s not the largest air fryer we’ve tested and also wasn’t particularly tall. Its hot air vents were at the back rather than the top, which meant we needed to bring it forward on the countertop, too.

What The Vortex really lacks is a manual! There is a quick start guide, but no actual Instant Pot Vortex manual provided that shows how to use the basket and rotisserie items or how to remove the door for cleaning. I spent a fair amount of time being frustrated with trying to figure out how to insert and remove the basket and rotisserie rod and, if there is an easy way to remove the door for cleaning I sure would like to know it!

Instant Vortex Plus Dual Basket Air Fryer Conclusion
This air fryer can be simple, but offers the extra sophistication of cooking two different dishes at the same time, if thats what you require. Gadgets like this demand some countertop space, some investment in the initial outlay of cost and in learning its nuances of use, but this model repays in the quality of components and cooking results. It would be good if the brand acted on its own advice and kept sustainability more in mind when it comes to packaging, though.

How Does An Air Fryer Compare To A Deep Fat Fryer
We compared the best air fryer with a deep fat fryer to see how well they made french fries from scratch. You can see our deep fryer vs air fryer piece for all the info, but we actually preferred the flavour we got with the air fryer. It bakes the fries in their seasoning, and gave us a delicious glazed texture. The deep fried potatoes were crispier, but the process of deep frying was a lot messier.

Instant Pot Vortex Review
The Vortex is fairly large, with a 10 quart capacity aimed at cooking for up to 6 people. It does look a bit tight to me in terms of being able to do a whole rotisserie chicken, but I have already seen some videos in the of whole chickens being done, including one over 5 pounds . How To Remove The Instant Pot Vortex Door
Update: After using it more, removing the Vortex door for cleaning it sometimes very necessary, especially with greasy or battered items. To remove it, place one hand on top of the air fryer to hold it in place, open the door to a 45 degree angle and pull up from the right side until it pops out of the track. I find that I have to jiggle it around some. To replace it, hold the door at a 45 degree angle, align the teeth at the bottom of the door with the groves in the oven, and press down on the right side of the door until it pops into place, then press down the left side. Once you remove it a few times it gets easier.

Cleaning The Instant Pot Vortex
Cleaning is easy. You can simply wipe it down with a wet cloth and basic cleaning supplies. Covering the drip pan in foil will also make cleaning easier. Also nice for cleaning is that the door is removable, but it takes more than a bit of work to figure it out and it is anything but easy. Basically, you have to open the door part way and wiggle the door around from one side until it pops out. I find it annoying and difficult. On the good side, I dont necessarily see a big need to remove the door for cleaning. It is fairly easy enough to do with the door on. But, my frenchees did leave a lot of crumbs around the door, and if it were easier to remove I would have done so for cleaning.

How Easy Is The Instant Vortex Plus Dual Basket Air Fryer To Use
This model is intuitive enough to use without the instruction manual but we did discover from the instructions that you can select your cooking scale in Centigrade or Fahrenheit.
The instructions offer temperature and timing guides for using each mode. The touchscreen controls were relatively easy to use being a clear combination of icons and words. Its functions are clearly labelled. Each drawer is selectable using a 1 or 2 button, then offers an interior light to illuminate what’s inside. The time and temperature are adjustable and the cooking time counts down on the digital display. A cooking progress bar from preheating to cooking is also a great addition.
We liked the adaptability of the Sync functions. The SyncCook gives the user a chance to cook the same thing in both baskets at the same time, whilst the SyncFinish ensures that whatever is being cooked in the baskets will finish at the same time.
How The Air Fryer Fries
Air fryers are basically small convection ovens. Inside, they have a heating element and a fan that blows hot air around their small cooking chamber, circulating the air very quickly. Combined with its perforated basket, this means that the food comes into contact with the hot air at a much faster rate, frying it. No, it doesnt produce deep-fried results , but the air fryer can cook brown and crispy foods very well, making it a great way to cook foods like French fries, broccoli , and even proteins like salmon.

What To Consider When Buying An Air Fryer
To start with, how many mouths do you have to feed? How much worktop space do you have to spare? Larger capacity fryers are good for big family meals, but will take up more room in the cupboard or on the counter.
What else can your air fryer do? Some models are great little multi-taskers and have the ability to reheat, roast, or grill as well as fry, so if youâre in the market for a versatile small appliance, these are a good bet.
Finally, if youâre short on time, but your ingredients’ list is long, look for an air fryer with cooking rack included, which offers an extra compartment for cooking two different foods at the same time, or one with a mixing paddle, so you donât have to hover over it.

Update: I am curating a list of Instant Pot Vortex recipes. These are recipes either specifically for the Vortex, or for oven style air fryers that will convert particularly well over to the Vortex.
The Vortex oven did not come with a recipe book. However, any air fryer recipe can basically be used for it. I will start adding recipes for the Vortex to this site and many good recipes can be found on Pinterest and in Facebook groups. I have an air fryer board on my personal Pinterest page here. However, in true Instant fashion, it’s not just an air fryer. No, no, my friends. This is a 7-in-1 countertop cooker that can bake, broil, reheat, air fry, dehydrate, roast and rotate for rotisserie-style recipes.
This combination air fryer dreams big and gets a lot of things right, but it’s not without its flaws, and my testing experience left me hoping Instant will make improvements and rerelease it. Should you buy the Vortex Plus? For now, I’d hold off and hang on to your old air fryer. Here’s why.

How Did We Choose The Best Air Fryer
A whole lot of hands-on testing, that’s how! Every air fryer in our guide has been tested hands-on for over a month by a member of the Real Homes team. When testing there are a few recipes we always follow so that we’re able to compare cooking results directly. One is chips, with a standardised recipe that requires chopping fresh maris piper potatoes into wedges and tossing them in some oil and seasoning. Some of the speediest air fryers have been able to crisp these up in just 12 minutes, others have taken as long as 20.
Other recipes will depend on the type of product and what it claims to do well. Some air fryers come with their own recipes, so we like to try these out alongside our own recipes to see if they are a good introduction to the product.

Cooking With The Instant Vortex Plus
Cooking is pretty straightforward. Insert the drip tray and then depending on your recipe, use the the trays, basket, or rotisserie spit. The spit is inserted and removed using the red lever on the side of the Instant Vortex. Use the basket for things like wings and fries, the trays for dehydrating and other basic cooking functions, and the spit for whole meats.
The controls light up when the Vortex is plugged in. They are pretty intuitive and self explanatory. But again, a true manual would have been nice to have. The quick start guide does at least walk you through the basics of air frying with a tray.
The baking temperature range runs from 180 to 400. Dehydrating has a lower threshold.
Over the coming weeks I will experiment with the various functions and update this review as I do so.
