Do not attempt to brown the frozen ground beef using the saute function on the instant pot. This will not cook the beef all the way through and you will end up with rubbery meat.

Once the meat is thawed you can crumble it and brown is using the saute function, if desired. This will give your beef a nice crust for soups, stews or even tacos.

Because the pot cannot come to pressure until everything in the pot is at boiling temperature, it will take a little longer to cook frozen meat. Therefore, it will need to be cooked for 50% to 100% longer than it would from frozen before it is safe to eat.

How to Cook Frozen Ground Beef in the Instant Pot

You will want a bit of water for this method. At first youll want to steam them essentially with a lid on and enough liquid to just cover the bottom of the pan.

Over medium high heat cook covered until the middle is no longer raw. Then remove lid and flip burgers over. Cook until water evaporates and until both sides are browned.

Usually frozen meat will take about 1.5 times as long as fresh meat to cook. So for instance, if youre cooking chicken breast they take 8 minutes to cook at high pressure if theyre fresh, and 12 minutes if theyre frozen.

However, there are some misconceptions about how that is done. You cant just toss a block of frozen ground beef in the Instant Pot with a pile of other ingredients and expect dinner to be ready in a few minutes.

You have to cook the Instant Pot frozen ground beef separately before continuing with your recipe, but the good news is that you can cook Instant Pot frozen hamburger in just a few minutes.

How do I cook my frozen meat in Instant pot. To cook Frozen Meat Add Trivet and Block of Frozen Beef on Top of Trivets. Set the Valve to Sealing, Press the Pressure Cook on High Pressure for Five Minutes. After the 5 minute timer, Release the Pressurization . Note: If you want to add some seasoning to your meat, you may want try adding some salt and pepper to this recipe. You can also add a little bit of garlic powder, onion powder or chili powder to make it taste better. Just make sure you dont overdo it. This is a great recipe to try out when you are cooking for your family.

How To Cook Frozen Ground Beef In The Pressure Cooker

Instant Pot Frozen Hamburgers

Step 1 Place your trivet in the bottom of your pressure cooker. Your instant pot should have came with a trivet but if not or you need a new one, I suggest this trivet with silicone handles. You can also use a steam basket here as well.

Step 2 Place your water in the bottom of the instant pot.

Step 3 Close the lid and set the release to SEALING. Press the pressure cook button and set it for 22 minutes for 1 pound of frozen ground beef. If you are cooking 2 pounds, set it for 27 minutes.

Step 4 Once the pressure cooker is done cooking, allow it to come to natural pressure. This should take about 10 minutes. Remove the lid and make sure the internal temperature of the meat has reached 160 degrees.

Step 5 Remove the trivet and use a spatula to crumble the ground beef. You can add your spices at this point and continue cooking your meal!

How To Thaw Ground Beef In The Pressure Cooker:

In order to defrost your ground beef in the Instant Pot, you will have to actually cook it. There is no function to thaw or defrost it without cooking it!

To do so, add water to the pot , position the trivet or rack, and then place your frozen ground beef on top of the trivet. Pierce the frozen ground beef with a knife as far it can go to help vent so the inside meat cooks better.

If the frozen ground beef has a flat form, it will take around 20 minutes. But it has a tube or cylinder form like mine, it will take about 25 minutes to reach a safe cooking temp which is 165 degrees F .

After that, you may season and saute your ground beef to add flavor and use it in whatever dish you want to.

Of course, you can make a ground turkey in the Instant Pot instead! In fact, you can cook any type of ground meat such as ground chicken, pork, etc. not only beef.

How long to cook ground beef in the Instant Pot?

It depends on whether the meat is fresh or frozen and also its form/shape.

If the meat is fresh, it takes around 6 minutes to 8 minutes to cook in the Instant Pot.

But if the beef is frozen, the cooking time will be longer about 20 to 25 minutes .

In any case, always check the cooked ground beef internal temperature to safely consume it. The meat thermometer must register 165 F .

How To Add Veggies To Ground Beef:

  • Looking to add more veggies to your diet? Riced cauliflower blends in perfectly with ground beef, especially when its seasoned! Add in one bag of cooked cauliflower rice to each pound of ground beef. If youre feeding it to a picky crowd, start with 1/2 cup of cauliflower per pound of beef and slowly work your way up.
  • If youre trying to hide cauliflower rice in your ground beef, add 1/2 cup of diced onionstheyll camouflage the veggie taste, and the rice wont be as easily identifiable because it kind of looks like diced onions.

  • frozen ground beef 1 lb. I have not tested this recipe with larger quantities. You can use fatty cuts of beef as the fat will drip into the water below and is discarded.
  • Instant Pot I have used both a 6 quart Instant Pot and an 8 quart Instant Pot for this recipe
  • water youll need 1 cup for a 6 quart and 1.5 cups for an 8 quart
  • trivet this comes with the Instant Pot and keeps the beef out of the water
  • Add the water to the stainless steel insert, and place the beef on top of the trivet over the water. Pressure cook for 5 minutes with a quick pressure release!

    How To Thaw Beef Fast

    Be sure the package is airtight or put it into a leakproof bag.Cold water thawing is a fast way to thaw meat while completely avoiding bringing your meat within the danger zone.Cold water thawing works best with smaller cuts of meat such as ground beef, steak, or chicken pieces.Defrost it for another 2 minutes until the pot roast thaws completely.

  • Add water: First, add about a cup of water to the inner pot. Then, add the trivet.
  • Cook the beef: Place the frozen beef on the trivet, and close the lid. Cook on HIGH pressure for about 20 minutes for 1 pound of beef, and for 23 minutes for two pounds. After that, followed by 5 minutes natural pressure release. Next, do a quick pressure release for the remaining pressure.
