How To Release Pressure When Cooking Pasta
Sometimes a quick pressure release can create a big mess if the starchy pasta water sprays out of the pressure knob.
To avoid that, I release the pressure in bursts. Which means, I press down , or rotate the pressure knob gently to release pressure 1-2 seconds at a time, then stop.
I repeat this until most of the pressure has released and its intensity has gone down. After that, when I do a full release of pressure, nothing squirts out of the knob.

After the onions have cooked for a few minutes, add the Italian Sausage. Then add the minced garlic. Cook until the sausage is browned.
Then pour in the chicken broth and the refrigerated tortellini.
Pressure cook in the Instant Pot for about 3 minutes. Then do a quick release.
Turn the Instant Pot off and then press SAUTE. Stir in the heavy cream.
If the Sausage Tortellini Soup needs thickening, stir together the cornstarch and cold water in a measuring cup and pour into the soup. Stir until combined. Let cook for a couple of minutes to allow it to thicken. Then stir in the parmesan cheese.
Turn off the Instant Pot and ladle the Sausage Tortellini Soup into soup bowls to serve. Enjoy!

It really is better, in my opinion. Give Instant Pot Tortellini Alfredo a try and let me know how you like it!

Easy Instant Pot Tortellini Lasagna
When Greg and I went shopping a couple weeks ago at Costco he plunked a double package of the refrigerated tortellini into our shopping cart. I wasnt sad. I knew that I could use the tortellini to make my popular Tortellini, Spinach and Chicken Soup, many other 365 Days favorites or I could use it to create a new recipe. I ended up using both packages for new recipes. The first recipe didnt turn out well enough to go on the blog but the second recipe was so delicious!
This Instant Pot tortellini lasagna recipe takes the tasty flavors of lasagna and then deletes all those time-intensive layers. It speeds up the process of cooking by using the Instant Pot in addition to cutting down on hands-on prep time.
Because this fresh refrigerated tortellini is very tender and somewhat fragile I used a zero minute pressure cooking time. If you are confused by what that means then read this article on what is a zero minute pressure cooking time? Remember that even though the pot just barely comes to pressure and then turns off it is cooking the whole time the pot builds pressure and the whole time its releasing pressure .
Some people have mentioned that their pots dont have the option of going down to 0 minutes. The fix is easy. Just set your electric pressure cooker for the lowest time possible and then once the pot comes to pressure and starts counting down on the timer unplug the pot. Let the pot sit for 5 minutes and then release the pressure.

How Long Do You Cook Tortellini In The Instant Pot
Not long at all! I cooked the tortellini on high pressure for just 2 minutes. You could probably do 3 minutes, but I wouldn’t go longer than that!
After the kielbasa tortellini is done pressure cooking, you stir in a little bit of frozen peas, some cream and a dab of Dijon mustard. Then, you add some shredded cheese, and stir until it’s all gooey and good!
And that’s all, folks! This easy cheesy dinner takes about 30 minutes to cook, and then you can dig right in.
If the sauce seems a little thin at first, don’t worry — It thickens up as it sits. You can also add more cheese or a different type of cheese if you want.
Can I Add Meat
This recipe is based on the creamy sausage tortellini recipe in our Electric Pressure Cooker Cookbook.
If you want to add a little more protein to this meal, add sausage for a richer, smokier flavor. To do so, brown the sausage in the pressure cooking pot on the Sauté function before you add the remaining ingredients. Then follow the recipe as written.
You could also swap cheese tortellini for your favorite meat-filled pasta with no changes to the recipe.

Why Is My Pasta Floating
Does pasta float when its done? Only stuffed pasta like ravioli, tortellini, or mezzelune will float to the surface during cooking. This happens because the air inside them expands when heated, making the pasta noodles less dense than the water. When the noodles float, that doesnt necessarily mean that theyre done.
