Can You Put Microwave Popcorn In An Air Fryer

When buying corn to make in an air fryer, make sure it is regular corn and not the treated kind. Some people may think that microwave popcorn can be made in the air fryer, but this isnt true. An air fryer will never give a good result with such treated popcorn.

The best way to go is to preheat the air fryer a little. It also needs a constant check to make sure the corn doesnt burn inside. No one wants food which smells like it was burned. With this method, one has to be patient because air fryers take their time but the end result is excellent because the taste is retained.

All popcorn lovers know that you need some sort of fat to cook the popcorn kernels in. Generally, when cooking it at home you would probably use some sort vegetable oil like olive oil or corn oil or you would use something like lovely butter. Your choice would be down to what tastes you like.

However, these oils or butter will not work as well for making popcorn in the Instant Pot as they have a lower smoke point so will burn. Instead, you would need the right oil.

You will need to use oil with a higher smoke point as you will be cooking at a high temperature. So as unrefined coconut oil is what you need. Plus it gives such a lovely flavor to the popped corn. Seriously good.

Instant Pot Popcorn Not Popping

How to Make Instant Pot Popcorn

Popcorn kernels pop up for one reason. There is trapped moisture inside the skin of the kernel. When kernels are cooked at high temperatures and pressure becomes too much to bear then they pop up.

If popcorn kernels are old and this moisture is dried out, in this case, kernels will not pop out and burn easily at the bottom. Make sure you are buying good kernels and keeping in an airtight container after use.

Popcorn will not pop up if they are stored from a longer time, or very old packages date or stored in open. TRIED & TESTED

How To Make Popcorn In The Instant Pot

Welcome to my latest Instant Pot recipe how to make popcorn in the instant pot and today is all about making delicious popcorn directly in your Instant Pot.

It is much quicker, much easier and the Instant Pot then makes a perfect base for making sauces to go with your popcorn.

But first share this post if you love popcorn as then you can use it for your reference for making in your Instant Pot.

I first got into popcorn in the same way that most of us do. With a trip to the cinema. A night out with friends, a trip on my own or a romantic night out with my man.

No matter how I did it there would always been a delicious tub of popcorn.

When you visit the cinema you can always hear the noise of everyones popcorn and it becomes an noise that you associate with a night out.

Ive seen an endless supply of movies at the cinema. I am a huge movie addict and have a collection of more than 300 DVDs at home and long before that I owned videos.

The first movie that I went to see on my own with popcorn in hand was Toy Story. I was away camping with my parents in their RV in this boring Eastern England town.

There was nothing to do for 12 year olds and I went off exploring with my pocket money.

I ended up getting the XL portion of popcorn and eating it all to myself as I watched Woody come to life on the big screen.

Not that I can remember what the second one was but the love for popcorn had begun.

So much cheaper and good fun too.

Seasoning For Air Fried Popcorn

Some things remain unchanged like the classic butter seasoning that people still use for popcorn. But as people want variety there are a number of other seasonings that have been introduced and that will go well with the air fried popcorn.

Caramelized popcorn is quite popular and can be easily prepared once the corn has been popped. This seasoning can be prepared while the popcorn is in the fryer and once it has been poured out, this seasoning can be added. If shaken well the popcorn will have the caramel taste which will intoxicate your taste buds.

For a salty taste, you can add some salt to the oil you will add to the corn prior to putting it in the air fryer. The best way to do this is to add salt in oil and add the corn, shake everything till you think the salty oil has thickly coated the kernels. When they pop they will have a nice salty taste.

If you are a cheese lover, you may have finely grated parmesan cheese ready in a bowl so when you put in the hot popcorn in and shake them, the cheese gets on each of them for the best taste.

There are numerous other seasoning recipes available online for you to explore. You may use any but just remember the popcorn has to ben freshly out of the fryer to catch the taste of the seasonings.

To follow these instructions you will obviously need an Instant Pot. If you dont already have one, I suggest you get on the band wagon! The Instant Pot is great for making recipes which would normally take over an hour to cook. Things like Instant Pot Onion Soup, or Chicken Stock are just a few of the things you can make in it!

Advantages And Disadvantages Of This Method

Instant Pot Popcorn Recipe

Air fryers are known to be healthier than most other cooking solutions as they require less oil, hence, they have less saturated fats than the food which has been regularly fried. Numerous types of food can be prepared in an air fryer, be it meat-based or vegetables by blowing heat on the food, the taste and nutrients are retained in the food as well.

If you are a neat freak then the biggest advantage of this method is that there wont be a mess to clean afterward. With the traditional method of making popcorn on the stove, there is a mess to clean afterward, with the oil and the cooking utensil but with this method, you remove the aluminum foil pouch from the fryer and you are done.

Another advantage of this method is that there is a very slight chance of the corn being overcooked and burning. With the timer, there is an option for the user to check how long one batch takes and it can be checked in between whether the corn is being burned.

The disadvantage is that this will take a bit longer than usual. You will have to wait between portions and each portion will be small. So the movie will have to wait a while as the snacks are being prepared. But it will be worth the wait and you will definitely meet your fitness goals.

If compared to the traditional method which takes about 5-7 minutes, in an air fryer you will need about 15 minutes depending on the portion. But remember this portion will still be smaller than the one done on the regular stove.
