Ultra 10 In 1 Instant Pot

Design & User Interface Updates

How to Use the Instant Pot Ultra 10-in-1 (Pressure Cooking)

The instant pot Ultra 10-in-1 is designed to look cleaner and attractive. It has a large display screen with a start button, cancel button, and a push dial. It may look more primitive to you as compared to past electric pressure cooker models because theres no option to quickly switch between programs.

For example, if you want to choose the saute program, you will have to use the dial button and scroll down the list of programs to access the saute program. Moreover, if you want to use the pressure cooking function, youll have to press the cancel button first and then scroll down the program list to choose the pressure cook option.

Instant Pot Ultras user interface is a little annoying as you have to go through more steps in order to choose a new program, but this issue will probably be solved in the companys upcoming releases. In our opinion, Instant Pot Ultra 10-in-1 should have program buttons that user can push to choose the desired program. Also, a + and button would be a great addition too. Hopefully these features will be included in the upcoming models.

Design: Modern And Sleek

The controls on this Instant Pot are different from earlier models thanks to a large display with plenty of information. Buttons around the display show the preset cooking functions, while a knob below lets you choose the function as well as all of its options. I really liked this method, and it made me feel confident that I actually did turn the warming feature on or off.

One interesting design decision on this model is the cancel button on the left of the control knob and the start button on the right. The cancel button not only cancels the cooking process, but it also backs you out of the settings you were choosing. Previous models of the Instant Pot did not have a start buttonyou simply chose your settings and you walked away. If youve used previous models, you may need to train yourself to press start. If this is your first Instant Pot, that start button might seem normal, since many other appliances have start and stop buttons.

The lids side handles can be inserted in the pots side handles to hold the lid . I liked this design, as it meant that I didnt need to find a place on the counter to set the lid while I was working.

One interesting new design feature is that when the lid is removed and replaced, the quick-release button automatically reverts to the sealing mode. This is great for people who forget to correctly set the steam release and come back to find that theyve been cooking without pressure.

Should I Buy Instant Pot Ultra

Here comes the most important question: Should I buy Instant Pot Ultra?

Our Recommendations:

  • New Instant Pot Users: If youre a techie who likes to experiment with cooking & enjoys the flexibility of customization, this is an all-around awesome & versatile kitchen gadget to cook with! If not, wed highly recommend Instant Pot DUO Plus 60 the most user-friendly electric pressure cooker in the current Instant Pot product line.
  • Current Instant Pot Users: If you are looking for a second Instant Pot to interchange or help cook different dishes at the same time, wed highly recommend Instant Pot DUO Plus 60. But if youre looking for an upgrade with more advanced usage, Instant Pot Ultra will be a great addition.
  • Buy as a Gift: From the packaging to the sleek clean design, this would make an awesome gift for family and friends who love to cook & play around with kitchen gadgets.

Competition: Smart Models Available

Another of the newer-generation models is the Instant Pot Smart WiFi, which integrates the pot with your home Wi-Fi system to allow you to control it from an app or from your Alexa device. This model doesnt have a sous vide function, though, and the controls are not quite as sophisticated as the Ultra. While Wi-Fi connectivity is cool, Id have to give the nod to the Ultra for its sous vide capability and better user interface.

One of the latest Instant Pot releases is the Instant Pot Max, which can cook at 15psi , like stovetop cookers. It can also be used for pressure canning, and it has a sous vide function. If you have to have the latest gadgets or you like the idea of pressure canning a few jars at a time, the Max is for you, but youll be paying more for less cooking capacity. If you needor wantthe larger cooking capacity, the Ultra does almost everything the Max does and gives you more space for that giant roast in your freezer.

Buy it!

Its hard not to fall right in love with the Instant Pot Ultra 10-in-1 Multi-Use Programmable Pressure Cooker, even though I didnt think Id need the capacity of the 8-quart option I ordered. I liked the user interface, and I like the addition of the start button that just seems to make sense. Id happily recommend this to anyone who has space for it.

Setup Process: So Easy

Instant Pot Ultra 10

Like most appliances, the parts for the Instant Pot Ultrathe lid with removable silicone seal, the stainless steel inner cooking pot, and any of the included accessories you are using should be washed before the first use.

After re-assembling the parts, the brand suggests performing a water test to confirm that the cooker is holding pressure. I found that this also gave me the opportunity to get familiar with how the controls function.

Don’t Miss: How To Put Lid On Instant Pot

Instant Pot Ultra Automatic Sealing System

With the previous Instant Pot Models you need to turn the Venting Knob to Sealing Position to seal the Instant Pot then turn the Venting Knob from Sealing Position to Venting Position to release the steam.

So the New Ultra model by using the new Steam Release Valve will now seal automatically when you close & secure the lid on the Instant Pot . You can also slightly turn the Quick Release button counter-clockwise until it pops up to seal the Steam Release Valve.

To release pressure or to perform a Quick Release, you just need to press down the Quick Release button until you hear the click and the cooker will lock into Venting position. If you press all the way down you will get a full blast steam release or if you only press it down slightly you can release just a little pressure. The steam release control is one advanced feature without a doubt.

If you normally forget to turn the Venting Knob to the Sealing position, this feature is a fantastic addition. You need to have in mind that in case you try to close the lid while the liquid on the Instant Pot is boiling, you may have to press down the Quick Release button for it to close. This locking mechanism is activated due to the machines safety feature.

Which Instant Pot Is Right For You

Food-specific modes and options will make the difference when it comes to picking the best Instant Pot for your cooking needs. If you want to venture into making your own yogurt, or if you love hard-boiled eggs, it’s worth it to pay a bit more for an Instant Pot model that can do those things.

When it comes to choosing the right size, Instant Pot recommends a 3-quart model for one or two people. Families of six or fewer will likely be happy with the 6-quart multicooker. If you have a large household or host large groups often, consider springing for an 8-quart model.

There are options from other brands, too. We recently reviewed a great Wi-Fi multicooker from ChefIQ. It does more than Instant Pot’s Wi-Fi model and comes with an integrated scale, nonstick pot and helpful iOS or Android app. It costs $200, so if you’re not ready to graduate to a high-end model, Instant Pot’s more affordable options are great for beginners.

If you’re still not sure which model will be the best Instant Pot for your kitchen, take a look at Instant Pot’s product comparison chart or its guide to choosing the right cooker. At the end of the day, all of these models offer the basic pressure cooking and slow cooking modes Instant Pot is known for performing so well.

What Does An Instant Pot Do

Instant Pot 6-qt Ultra 10-in-1 Digital Pressure Cooker on QVC

Yeah, why can’t you just get a regular slow cooker? At their core, Instant Pots are electric pressure cookers. The proprietary locking lid creates a seal that heats any water inside far past its boiling point, turning it to steam. When that steam has nowhere else to go, it creates pressure thus cooking food 2-10 times faster than what an oven or slow cooker could do.

The Instant Pot’s heart is a microprocessor aided by built-in temperature sensors that give Instant Pots the ability to 1. Mimic the cooking functions of multiple different appliances and 2. Switch between those functions at the press of a button. This collection of programs can be tweaked and tailored to perform super specific tasks that you may have struggled with pre-Instant Pot . They get down to the nitty-gritty of heat intensity, pressure, and cooking duration to achieve more precise results in the kitchen. Some of the more advanced models even offer personalized programming and will remember your settings for the next time.

Each Instant Pot model gains a new cooking method or two, so you aren’t paying for functions you won’t use.

If you’ve decided you want to try out the Instant Pot in your own home, you have several purchasing options. First of all, you will need to decide between the 3-, 6- and 8-quart sizes.

Epicurious explains that the 6-quart size is the most versatile, the 3-quart works well for one to two people and the 8-quart works nicely when cooking for big crowds. Keep in mind that the capacity will affect other specifications, with smaller ones weighing around 9 pounds, and bigger ones weighing almost 16.

The Instant Pot is available at all sorts of stores, ranging from traditional department stores to the manufacturer’s website. This lets you shop around and pick the best price. The pot sizes range from about $90 to $200, depending on where you buy it. What Features Are Available With The Instant Pot Ultra

The Instant Pot Ultra’s controls are pretty simple. All you see on the front of the machine is a display with clearly labeled buttons , a knob and a start and cancel button. This control system is pretty intuitive and lets you scroll through Instant Pot’s impressive range of settings without having to click hundreds of tiny buttons.

The Ultra gets its name from the new “Ultra” setting, which lets you completely customize the cooking time, pressure and temperature of your food. Not sure exactly which cooking settings you want to use? You can also use presets like “Soup/Broth” or “Bean/Chili” to let the machine decide for you.

Other helpful features of the Instant Pot 10-in-1 include a delayed start of up to 24 hours for automated cooking and a quick steam-release button for safe handling. The display can show you when the pot is preheating, cooking or keeping your food warm so you know exactly what stage of cooking your food is in.

Is The Instant Pot Ultra Better Than Comparable Pressure Cookers

Instant Pot Ultra 10

The Ultra is essentially right in the middle of the Instant Pot range, as neither the most expensive nor the cheapest pot. It does have significantly more features than the DUO, but not quite as many features as the Max. This makes it a good compromise for people who want a convenient and versatile cooker without having to pay the big bucks for a professional-grade appliance.

When comparing the Instant Pot Ultra to other pressure cooker brands, it is even more appealing. Instant Pot is a fan favorite that out-competes most other brands. With its compact size, ease of use and convenient cooking modes, the Instant Pot models are way more user-friendly, especially if you’re new to pressure cooking.

Resources: Just A Click Away

The Instant Pot company has a lively presence on social media, including a Facebook page, a Facebook group, a Twitter handle, and an Instagram feed. Theres also an app with plenty of recipes, and Instant Pot has even authorized several cookbooks produced by trusted authors. Because the appliance is so popular, there are plenty of third-party resources, including blogs and fun accessories.

Performance: Its A Beast

Theres no doubt about it: This is a solid performer. From fluffy rice to creamy cheesecake to spicy chili to a French toast casserole, I used this cooker for every meal, aside from the occasional lettuce leaf, and I didnt have a single failure.

Again, I ordered the 8-quart version, and I wondered if it would be a benefit for anyone but large families. After using it for a while, however, I began to appreciate the extra room. When I cooked in a springform pan or a soufflé dish, I had plenty of space around that cookware. So, for example, while making my go-to Instant Pot cheesecake recipe, the extra width of the 8-quart bowl made it easier to get the pan into and out of the pot.

Unlike cookers that require users to turn the steam release valve itself, the quick-release button just needs to be pressed to start the venting process.

The extra room was also much appreciated when making soup stock, since I had more than enough room for the bones from a roast chicken, along with onion, celery, and carrots for extra flavor. An hour at high pressure was all it took to make a flavorful stock that went on to become soup later in the week, also cooked in the pressure cooker.
