Do You Need To Wash Or Rinse Jasmine Rice

It is definitely recommended to rinse rice before cooking because it helps remove dirt and debris in the rice and also remove excess starch on the grains. Make sure to note that if your jasmine rice is made with enriched nutrients like iron, niacin, or folic acid, washing too much of your rice will wash away these nutrients.

After the cooking cycle finished, wait 10 15 minutes before moving the Venting Knob from Sealing Position to Venting Position to release the remaining pressure.

Always make sure the Floating Valve completely drops before opening the lid.

    • Compare to Quick Release: Significantly reduces the chance of food splattering out from the Pressure Release Valve.
    • Compare to Natural Release: Faster release method when the pressure cooker is full of food with high liquid volume.

Natural Pressure Release Vs Quick Pressure Release

Whats better? Hands down, no doubt > > natural pressure release. If you cook rice longer so you can do quick pressure release, with the hope to have the rice cooked faster overall, it gets sticky and mushy.

I encourage you to be patient and wait for natural pressure release. I timed all rice and there doesnt seem to be any rhyme or reason to the timing. Even the same kind of rice in the same amount has had different natural pressure release times.

True to its name, the multicooker can do more than just pressure cook and slow cook. Depending on your model, it may also feature several settings for preparing yogurt, rice or poultry, as well as sautéeing.

  • Yogurt Setting

How you use this function will vary based on the recipe and your model. Most yogurt functions will heat the pot at 180 degrees to 200 degrees, which kills any errant bacteria in the milk, and helps the yogurt to thicken. Then it keeps the milk at 110 degrees for several hours, during which time it ferments. Consult your manual for exact instructions.

  • Saute Setting

The sauté function works like a burner on your stove, heating the inner pot from the bottom up, and allowing you to brown meats and vegetables, and to simmer sauces to reduce them.

The sauté function on most cookers has several levels, from low to high, allowing you to adjust the heat. If yours doesnt, and the food is turning too dark too quickly, turn off the machine for a few minutes to bring down the heat. Then, if necessary, turn it back on. Its not a perfect solution, but it works well enough. Or, you can always brown the ingredients on the stove in a skillet, then transfer them to the pot for the remainder of the cooking. Note that when sautéing, the multicookers lid should always be off.

So How Do Instant Pot Settings Work

How to Use the Instant Pot Duo Plus

Each Instant Pot setting button is essentially a SMART PROGRAM option. Most smart programs, or buttons, simply set the pot to HIGH or LOW pressure for a specific period of time most closely aligned with the food it is meant to cook. For example, the default SOUP button sets the pressure cooker for 30 minutes at HIGH pressure, which you could use to cook any food that requires that much time and pressure.

If you press each SMART setting button more than once, it will toggle between Normal, Less or More options, which gives you more control of time, temperature or default pressure. For example, the RICE button can be set to Less or More depending on how soft or firm you like your rice or the type of rice you might be cooking.

Some buttons dont use the pressurizing function of the Instant Pot. For example, Slow Cook and Sauté settings use the heating element that sits underneath the inner pot. They are programmed for heat level and time.

To keep it super simple, it is possible to use the Instant Pot for all recipes using just a few important buttons. With the Pressure Cook or Manual buttons in addition to the Pressure Level and and buttons, you can control the time and pressure level which are otherwise preset for the rest of the buttons. This will work for any recipe that requires pressure. For non-pressure cooking, the Sauté, Slow Cook and Yogurt buttons help you accomplish a similarly custom cooking setting.

    Why A Natural Pressure Release

A natural pressure release means that you dont need to do anything to the Instant Pot. Once it is done with the cook time, just allow it to slowly come back to a pressure in which you can open the lid. You will know the rice is done when the floating valve on top drops down and you can easily open the lid.

The liquid in the cooked rice is foamy. That foam can shoot through the release valve of the Instant Pot if you use a quick release this is especially true if you used butter!

Using a natural release lets the cooking process stop slowly. The rice continues to cook through the release. If you use a quick release, you may end up with undercooked rice.

    Instant Pot Multigrain Setting

This setting is best suited to cooking tougher, whole grains like brown and wild rice, farro, millet and steel-cut oats it can also be used to cook dry beans and a mixture of grains and legumes. We find that this is one of the most confusing functions for people because some of the recommended manual cooking times for grains dont match the pre-programmed setting times, so its hard to know when to use this function. Below is how to use the Multigrain setting on the Instant Pot.

    • Turn the Instant Pot on, it will say OFF to indicate the Stand-By mode. Add the grains, liquid and seasoning if you wish. Secure and lock the lid. Press the Multigrain button. The default setting is pre-programmed to set the pot to cook at High pressure for 40 minutes. If you press the Multigrain button again, you can adjust the mode from Normal to Less or More.

If desired, use the / + buttons to further customize the time. The cooking time may be adjusted at any time during pressure cooking.

How Much Water For Instant Pot Rice

    Instant Pot DUO80 8

You can cook any kind of rice in your pressure cooker, long or short grain, brown or white. No matter what kind of rice Im cooking, I use the same 1:1 ratio of rice to water or broth.

This is probably less water than youre used to using for cooking stovetop rice, and thats because theres very little evaporation when youre using the pressure cooker. This ratio produces fairly firm, separate grainsyou can add a little more water, maybe about 1/4 cup extra, if you like softer rice.

    Instant Pot White Rice

Growing up we always made our white rice in the rice cooker.

It was quick, easy, and was pretty much foolproof.

If youd asked me up until about a year ago Id say the rice cooker was the only way.

That is, until the magical powers of the Instant Pot were discovered.

Not only do the grains cook up until perfectly tender and ultra fluffy, but its also ready in a fraction of the time.

Im talking like HALF of the time it takes for a rice cooker or a stovetop method.

Instant Pot white rice in only 20 minutes while cooking it in a rice cooker takes closer to 40 minutes!

And the process is so simple to follow, you might even end up tossing that ole rice cooker away!

Pressure Cooking Rice With Other Foods

The benefit of cooking any variety of rice using the pot-in-pot method is that you can cook another dish on the bottom of the pot at the same time. For example, my Instant Pot Chipotle Burrito Bowls have dry black beans cook from scratch on the bottom of the pot, while a bowl of brown rice cooks on top of that in a separate bowl.

You can do the same thing with chicken and white rice, with the chicken cooking on the bottom of the Instant Pot while a bowl of white rice cooks on top. The thing to keep in mind when cooking two dishes at once is that both dishes need to cook in roughly the same amount of time. Ive listed plenty of pot-in-pot cooking times for you to refer to!

You can even cook chicken and cauliflower rice together, like in my Instant Pot Chicken Burrito Bowls.
