How To Reheat Instant Pot Mashed Potatoes
The pot in pot method is the perfect way to reheat your mashed potatoes in your Instant Pot without drying them out! Place 1 to 2 cups water and a trivet in the bottom of your cooking pot.
How long to set the cook time depends on the amount of mashed potatoes youre reheating.
A single portion will take a very short time Id start with 1 minute. If youre reheating enough to feed a large family, itll take a longer time. Id try 6 minutes, but it may take more depending on the type and thickness of the inner pot.
Also, since reheated potatoes tend to dry out a little, youll probably need to mix in more milk and butter to restore the potatoes to their soft and creamy texture.
For Mashed Sweet Potatoes:
- Begin with the recipe above and fully cook the desired amount of sweet potatoes.
- When the NPR is finished and you release pressure from the pot, unseal the lid. Reserve 1/2-1 cup of the cooking liquid and mash with the desired add-ins. Follow the same instructions for regular mashed potatoes.
- Add-in ideas: coconut oil, butter, olive oil, coconut milk, buttermilk, heavy cream, milk, salt, pepper, cinnamon, nutmeg, chives, nut butter, pecans, sugar/coconut sugar.

Before I got the Instant Pot digital pressure cooker, I used my slow cooker to make baked potatoes. Its a great way to cook them if you dont have a pressure cooker. However, this method is much faster and I can have baked potatoes ready in 20 minutes, perfectly fluffy and ready for our favorite toppings.

How Long Does It Take To Boil Potatoes In An Instant Pot
The greatest advantage of boiling potatoes in the Instant Pot is that you don’t have to set multiple timers or adjust the heat while cooking – the Instant Pot simply does all the work for you. But time variances occur depending on the type and size of your potatoes.
The length of time it takes to cook potatoes in the Instant Pot is as follows:
- Baby Potatoes : Baby potatoes that are around 1 inch long will take about 5 mins with a Quick Release , or Natural Pressure Release .
- Yukon Gold or Red Potatoes : I consider medium potatoes to be about 2-2.5 inches long, which will take 6 minutes with QR or NPR. If your potatoes are really thick, then add another 1 minute to the cooking time.
- Russet : For large potatoes, around 4-5.5 inches long, pressure cook for 10 mins with QR or NPR. If the potatoes are extra large and really thick, then cook them for 12 minutes.
Note: These times result in a cooked through potato that will hold shape if sautéing, etc. For mashed potato consistency, add another 2 minutes.
For Simple Instant Pot Eggplant :
- Wash eggplant and cut into uniform slices or chunks.
- Place a trivet or steaming basket into the pot with one cup of water.
- Place the eggplant into the basket and set the Instant Pot to cook on HIGH for 3-4 minutes,
- Finish up with a quick release.
- Optional: Drain the water and add butter or oil. Season and saute the eggplant to brown the outsides.

I was confused for so many years after cutting into a sweet potato only to find white potatoes! Was it really a sweet potato or was it a yam? It is rare to find an actual yam in a U.S. grocery store. What you are seeing when you go to the store are two varieties of sweet potatoes.
The label yam at the store is actually a sweet potato with brown skin with a deep shade of orange inside. What is labeled sweet potato at the store is a sweet potato with lighter skin and also lighter flesh. This variety is more firm in texture and not as fluffy when cooked.
When you purchase sweet potatoes for this recipe, you will want to purchase the yam variety! No more potato confusion, phew!
How To Make Baked Potatoes With Crispy Skin
If you like crispy skins on your baked potatoes, you can place them under the broiler after you cook the potatoes in the Instant Pot. This step is optional and I often skip it when Im short on time. It does add lots of flavor, though!
Place the cooked potatoes on a baking sheet. Rub the baked potatoes with olive oil and sprinkle them with salt before placing them under the broiler in your oven. Watch the potatoes closely so they do not burn. Mine took about 7 minutes to crisp under the broiler.

How To Cook Instant Pot Potatoes:
All types and sizes of potatoes require different cook times in the Instant Pot.
For these small, Creamer potatoes, 2-3 minutes is plenty .
For larger, baked potatoes, 15-20 minutes is necessary, and sometimes longer if the potatoes are quite large.
For diced potatoes when mashing, 2-3 minutes is lots, as the pieces are so small to begin with.
When cooking potatoes in the pressure cooker, a quick release is recommended . With Instant Pot baked potatoes, a natural pressure release may be better.

- the size of your piece of meat,

- and whether it is frozen or thawed.
We recommend never cooking meat from frozenthaw it first for tenderest and juiciest results. It can be done, however, and weve provided times for that method too.
Dont overdo it
Remember, once you have overcooked a piece of meat, you cannot undo it. If overcooked, it will be dry, grainy, and sometimes inedible. You can always cook an undercooked piece a few minutes longer though.
So, principle number one is this: no matter how ridiculously short the cooking time in the instructions sounds, try it. You can always add a little more time after checking.
If youre unsure, use a meat thermometer to check. The internal temperature of the meat should be 145F/63C when done.

If youre roasting a chicken, you will need just 6 min per pound. So, for a 34-pound chicken, you should cook it for 18-25 minutes. If frozen, add another 3 min for each pound.
