How to Steam Broccoli in Instant Pot – 0 min & tips!

Add around one cup of water to the inner pot and place the steamer.

Add the cauliflower florets to the steamer basket. Close the lid and turn the venting knob to the sealing position.

Turn on the instantpot to steam mode and set the time for 1 minute and do a QR. You can do a natural release after 5 minutes if you want little mushy cauliflower in the instantpot.

If you want crunchy stir fry kind of cauliflower do it in steam mode for 1 minute and do a QR immediately after the steam completes.

After doing QR takes off the cauliflower instantpot immediately and leave it on for few minutes before you make any cauliflower curry or cauliflower instantpot recipes.

You can even wash the cauliflower florets in running water after taking them out from the pressure cooker to stop the further cooking process.

Today I did this recipe for my toddler so I did 1 minute and QR after 5 minutes to get a little mushy and I chopped the cauliflower into small pieces and seasoned it in my cast iron with some salt, turmeric, and black pepper powder.

PRO Tip: Do you know adding turmeric powder and black pepper powder will boost kids immunity and is one of the best ways to introduce spices to toddlers.

Enjoy your instant pot steamed cauliflower with your family and friends.

Lets Try The Quick Release

Back to our pot of water: Activate the steam release valve to the venting position. Keep your face and fingers away from the top of the knob where the steam vents.

The steam will come shooting up and be a little noisy.

Releasing all of the steam can take a minute or more. The more liquid in the cooker, the longer the release will take.

Instant Pot Steam Setting

The Steam setting on the Instant Pot is perfect for cooking vegetables, fish and seafood, tofu and any other food that is suitable to steaming. This function uses Low pressure, which helps to avoid overcooking the food and means that the Instant Pot will come to pressure quicker. You need to use the trivet/steam rack provided to elevate food from cooking liquid. Always use QR to prevent food from overcooking. Below is how to use the Steam setting on Instant Pot.

  • Turn the Instant Pot on, it will say OFF to indicate the Stand-By mode. Add a cup of water to the inner pot and place the trivet on top. You can place the vegetables or a piece of fish or thinly sliced chicken on top of the trivet OR you can use an additional steam basket or a round pan with holes that fits inside the pot. A steamer basket might be useful for smaller-sized vegetables or cut-up vegetables to prevent them from falling into the water.
  • Secure and lock the lid. Press the Steam button. The default setting is pre-programmed to set the pot to cook at Low pressure for 10 minutes. If you press the Steam button again, you can adjust the mode from Normal to Less or More.

What Comes In The Box

Depending on your specific model of Instant Pot, in the box you should generally find:

  • An owners manual, for one. Its boring and confusing, which is why you are reading this.
  • A big ol lid.
  • A silicone gasket that fits in a ring under the lid. Some models come with a spare gasket: one for milder foods, and one for strongly spiced foods like chili or curry. You can switch gaskets to keep the smell from carrying over into your next recipe.
  • The cooker itself .
  • A detachable power cord.
  • The metal insert, a.k.a. the stainless steel pot that actually holds the food.
  • A small translucent plastic drip catcher to collect condensation. .
  • A metal steaming rack. You may or may not use this a lot, but hang onto it anyway.

    Can You Freeze Artichokes

Artichokes can be frozen after cooking. Raw artichokes do not freeze well. Uncooked, artichokes will turn brown and mushy when thawed out. The cold temperature not only changes their color and texture but also their flavor .

Freeze cooked artichokes in an airtight container or wrap them in plastic wrap and store them in a freezer safe resealable bag. Cooked whole artichokes will last for 1 to 2 months while cooked artichoke hearts can be frozen for several months.

What Can I Steam In My Instant Pot

Most IP users steam veggies because its a great way to cook vegetables without losing too much of the nutrients. Also, since IP doesnt let the steam escape until the depressurization step, it keeps almost all the nutrients inside the food.

If youre a bit adventurous and want to take this one step further, you can also try to steam clams, fish, and other seafood, chicken, dumplings, and other foods. The reason why I say you need to be a bit adventurous is that it takes a few tests to get the best settings for perfect results.

But once you get them, its an open road to steamed foods heaven from there!

How Long Do You Steam Artichokes In An Instant Pot

If you are wondering how long does it take to cook artichokes in a pressure cooker, the answer will depend on the size of each artichoke globe. A medium size artichoke usually cooks in about 18 to 20 minutes.

Harvesting time also has an effect on the overall texture of the artichoke. For example, artichokes harvested in early spring and summer take less time to cook than the ones harvested during late summer and fall. Please dont let this discourage you. Ive put together a cheat sheet to help you figure out how long to cook artichokes in a pressure cooker depending on when you buy them.

    Artichokes Instant Pot Cooking Times

All pressure cooking times below are based on my testing. These times are to be used as a reference. I cannot test every artichoke from every part of the world so timing may vary slightly.

Artichokes Harvested During Early Spring And Early Summer:

    • Small Artichokes: 10 to 12 minutes
    • Medium Artichokes: 13-15 minutes

Why Cook Sweet Potatoes In The Instant Pot

If you’re skeptical of kitchen trends or gadgets, the thought of swapping your baked sweet potatoes for ones prepared in the Instant Pot can be daunting. But I’m here to tell you that once you make Instant Pot sweet potatoes, you’ll never make them any other way. Here are a few reasons to make the switch:

    • You’ll save time without sacrificing quality. To achieve the desired result, sweet potatoes need to bake in the oven for up to an hour. Of course, you can always nuke them when you’re in a pinch, but you’re going to end up with dried out sweet potatoes. The Instant Pot offers the best of both worlds. In about 35 minutes, the Instant Pot turns raw sweet potatoes into a moist and fluffy side dish.
    • It’s less work. Don’t worry about rubbing the potatoes with oil or checking them for doneness. The beauty of the Instant Pot is it’s completely hands off.
    • The result is perfection. With this method, you end up with velvety smooth sweet potatoes every time. The Instant Pot won’t dry them out like more traditional methods.

    Instant Pot Slow Cook Setting

The Slow Cook is a non-pressure cooking setting that is compatible for use with any common slow cooker/Crockpot recipe. The pot is heated but is not pressurized and the Less, Normal and More modes correspond to Low, Medium and High slow cooker settings but you will need to adjust the time manually.

You might want to use this setting for making dishes ahead of time while youre away from home or overnight. There are times when slow-cooking might work better for certain recipes than quicker pressure cooking. Below are the steps for how to use the Slow Cook setting on Instant Pot.

How To Prepare Cabbage For Cooking

In order to cook this cabbage in the Pressure Cooker, start by washing and cutting the cabbage. First, cut the cabbage in half. Then core the cabbage by removing the tough stems. I cut a V shape around the core and remove it.

Lay the cabbage side by side and cut each half into four separate pieces. Then, slice across the pieces and cut cabbage into 1 inch pieces. It shall fall apart into a ton of pieces but that is ok.

What Can I Use If I Don’t Have A Steamer Basket

Instant Pot â An Electric Multi

There are a bunch of things you can use instead of a dedicated steamer basket, but if youre serious about steaming, you should get a basket.

Still, when in an emergency, you can always use a metallic colander or something made out of metallic mesh. The secret is to find something that will resist the high heat and is big/small enough to fit your IP, while also keeping the food in the best position for steaming.

If you dont have one, check my guide here. I recommend using a steamer basket with feet .

If you have a steamer basket without legs, you can place the basket on the trivet.

If you don’t have a steamer basket, you can make one yourself or place the veggies on the bottom of the Instant Pot.
