How to Cook a Steak in the Instant Pot

The thicker your pork loin, the longer itll take to reach the desired temperature.

Keep in mind that if your pork loin is much thicker than the one we used to develop our recipe, it may take a much longer Keep Warm time.

*Note: Keep checking the temperature every 10 15 minutes depending on the size of your roast.

Does Meat Need To Be Covered With Liquid In An Instant Pot

No, the pork loin chops do not have to be covered with liquid in the instant pot. The idea of making pork chops in the pressure cooker is that they cook with steam. If they are covered with liquid they will boil and thats not the result that we are looking for.

Thats why you only need 1 cup of liquid, which sits on the bottom of the pot underneath the trivet and the pork chops elevated above it.

STEP ONE: Combine the Montreal steak seasoning, salt, and pepper in a small bowl, and rub all over the roast evenly.

STEP TWO: Heat one tablespoon of oil using the saute button, and sear both sides of the meat. Remove the roast and set aside.

I recommend waiting at least 2 minutes after the oil is added on saute to add the meat. You can also wait until the Instant Pot reads HOT.

STEP THREE: Heat the remaining tablespoon of oil and saute the onions. Add in the garlic until fragrant.

STEP FOUR: Turn off the pressure cooker and pour in the beef broth. Deglaze the pot with a wooden spoon.

This just means to get as much off the bottom of the pot as possible.

STEP FIVE: Place the roast back to the pressure cooker and add the carrots and potatoes. Pour in beef broth and Worcestershire sauce. Add the lid and close the pressure valve.

STEP SIX: Cook on high pressure for 10 minutes, then complete a 3-minute natural release then manually release the Instant Pot.

Use an Instant-Read Meat Thermometer to check the temperature.

If its too low, remove the vegetables and turn it to Keep Warm. Let it roast until it reaches temperature.

STEP SEVEN: Place the vegetables and onions on a platter to rest, and turn on the saute function. Combine the cold water and cornstarch in a bowl. Once juices are boiling, slowly add the cornstarch to thicken the gravy.

Start if you can about one day in advance by salting your steak. I use about 1/2 teaspoon kosher salt per side of steak. Why well first the salt draws moisture out of the steak. However, over time, it re-absorbs it back in, including the salt with it and incorporating flavor throughout the entire steak.

Instant Pot Swiss Steak Recipe

The answer to this question depends on a series of variable factors.

First, we have the shape of the steak. Are you cooking an entire piece or will you cube/shred the meat?

If youre cooking an entire piece , you should also decide on the result youre aiming for . Still, regardless of the case, you shouldnt use thick pieces the heat must be able to penetrate the meat from top to bottom.

For a rare steak, you only need to use the saute function. For medium and well-done you will need to top the sauteing with some pressure cooking.

I like my steak well-done so I usually leave it in the Instant Pot for about 15 minutes, but you should also adjust the time and temperature according to the size of the steak.

    • Do not attempt to open the pressure cooker until it’s been depressurized.
