What Part Of The Pig Should I Use

When we were testing this recipe, we knew we wanted to make a pretty traditional pork roast recipe. We were going between two cuts of meat: a pork loin roast or pork shoulder roast.

  • Pork Loin Roast: A pork loin roast comes from the back of the pig. It is usually a very lean piece of meat, so if you are slow roasting, you have to be careful you dont overcook it. In this recipe, you can use a pork loin roast if you are looking for more pork chop or pieces of pork rather than shredded pork.
  • Pork Shoulder Roast: A pork shoulder/butt comes from the shoulder of a pig. It generally has more fat and is great for slow roasting. We use this cut of meat when we want to use carnitas or if we want a juicy piece of meat.

It is all about how you want your pork roast to turn out. We tested both cuts of meat for this recipe and though we prefer the pork shoulder, both cuts are delicious! What Kind Of Barbecue Sauce Do You Use For Pulled Pork

How To Make Instant Pot Pulled Pork

My husband and I really like KC Masterpiece Original BBQ Sauce in this pulled pork recipe. Its smokey and sweet, with just a little kick. However, you can use your favorite brand of barbecue sauce in your pulled pork with no change to the water content.

If you prefer homemade, my friend Alyssa has an awesome homemade BBQ sauce recipe.

When serving those with dietary needs , you can even make the pulled pork without using any BBQ sauce in the pot. Id probably add some spices or liquid smoke to the meat before cooking to infuse some flavors. Then, just remove a portion of the meat and stir in the barbecue sauce to the remaining portion.

As far as which spices, the sky is the limit! Keep things simple with a teaspoon of onion powder, garlic powder, and salt. Like a spicy barbecue? Then add some cayenne pepper or chili powder.

How Do I Even Use An Instant Pot

The Instant Pot is a fancy version of a traditional pressure cooker. When it comes to the Instant Pot and traditional pressure cookers, there are many different models. To start, read through the instructions of your model to learn about the different functions.

Here is a 10-step beginner guide to using an Instant Pot:

  • First, place the bowl into the base of the Instant Pot. After that, add the ingredients .
  • Next, check the lid of your Instant Pot to make sure the sealing ring is in place.
  • Then, secure the lid onto the base.
  • Turn the valve on the lid to SEALING.
  • The next step will differ for each model so check your manual! For my Instant Pot, I press PRESSURE but other models require you to press MANUAL.
  • Press the PLUS or MINUS signs to set the cooking time.
  • The Instant Pot should say ON. When the machine first turns on, it is building pressure. The time that it takes for this pressure to build does NOT count toward the cooking time. On my machine, I know the pressure is built when the silver pin on top is raised.
  • Once the pressure is built, the cooking time will start counting down.
  • After the cooking time is complete, release the pressure. To release the pressure, you can wait for the natural pressure release OR release the pressure manually by turning the valve to VENTING.
  • Lastly, take off the lid once it is unlocked.
  • Will Instant Pot Pork Roast & Gravy Freeze Well

The pork roast will freeze very well! I actually love having some on hand to use for various things. It works well in sliders, tacos, and over buttered noodles or mashed potatoes.

The only thing I would not recommend freezing are the mashed potatoes, as potatoes tend to discolor when frozen. Theyre easy and quick to make in your Instant Pot to go along with the Pork Roast and Gravy, though!

I hope you love this recipe as much as we do!

  • Instant Pot Kalua Pig

How to Cook Pork Loin in the Instant Pot

You gotta make my Instant Pot Kalua Pig!

After making the classic version of my Slow Cooker Kalua Pig recipe for years, Ive identified its one drawback: the agonizingly long 16-hour cooking time. The perfume of slowly simmering pork never fails to drive me bonkers.

But at long last, a solution is at hand! Instant Pot Kalua Pig!

A few weeks ago, I started hearing from readers about how they successfully cooked kalua pig in their Instant Pot or pressure cooker, and my ears immediately perked up. Was it possible? Smoky, fork-tender kalua pig in a fraction of the usual cooking time? Only one way to find out

After interrogating my resourceful readers , engaging in good old fashioned research, and futzing around with all the variables in my kitchen, I came up with my own pressure cooker version of kalua pig.

And believe it or not, it may even be better than my slow cooker version.

Ive extolled the virtues of pressure cooking before, but its truly become one of my favorite cooking methods. My trusty stovetop pressure cookers have been workhorses in my kitchen for some time now, but these days, Im almost exclusively turning to my electric programmable Instant Pot. I can make bone broth at a moments notice without having to babysit it like a stove-top pressure cooker. The Instant Pots sauté function even lets me brown aromatics or meat right in the pot before I throw in the rest of the ingredients. One less skillet to clean? Hallelujah.

Wait Onions Arent Liquid Whaddaya Mean

You caught us onions are solid, but theyre mostly made of water and once the pressure starts to mount they release more than enough liquid to prevent the dreaded BURN message. Dan Shumski, author of How to Instant Pot: Mastering All the Functions of the One Pot That Will Change the Way You Cook, developed two of the recipes below and both rely on onions. He notes, Where water dilutes flavor, onions add to it. Yet despite the onions, the pork here doesnt taste overwhelmingly of onions. When it comes to the onions, don’t go crazy chopping them large chunks are fine.

How Long Does It Take To Cook A Pork Butt Per Pound In Instant Pot

The basic role will be cooking for approximately 40 minutes per pound at 300°F in the oven.Your meat will end up tender and fully cooked if you use this method.Note: During the cooking process, if the liquid in the bottom of the pan evaporates, just go ahead and add another ½ inch as needed.

Meanwhile, In the Instant Pot, 15 minutes per pound is more than enough for it to be cooked. That means setting your Instant Pot to pressure cook for 15 minutes per pound, and you have 3 pounds of roast, then you set it to pressure cook for 45 minutes.

It must be noted though that the cooking process for 1 pound will take more than 15 minutes, as, before the pressure cooking starts, your Instant Pot will spend time coming up to temperature. And That can add about 10 to 15 minutes to the cooking process.

After the pressure cooking time is up, the pressure inside needs to be released. You must do whats called the natural release for 10 minutes. As the heater of your Instant Pot stops heating at that time, the pressure inside will slowly dissipate.

The amount of time you need to cook pork in the Instant Pot will vary based on the cut.

    • Pork Loin. For a 4-to-5-pound pork loin, pressure cook for 40 minutes on high, then let the pressure release naturally for 15 minutes.
    • Pork Shoulder/Butt. For a 4-to-5-pound pork shoulder or pork butt, cook the pork for 1 hour on high pressure, then let the pressure release naturally for 15 minutes.
    • Pork Tenderloin. I do not recommend this cut for pulled pork, as it will be too dry. See more in the ingredients section below.

Tender Frozen Pork Shoulder Instant Pot Recipe Is Here How To Cook Frozen Meat In A Pressure Cooker So Its Perfect Every Single Time

Ive been cooking a lot of frozen meat in Instant Pot lately. Why? Because Im forgetful. This frozen pork shoulder Instant Pot came out perfect so I thought Id share that with you too. Just one more easy Instant Pot recipe to add to the list.

I mean I cannot be the only one who realizes at 4 pm that you havent taken anything out to defrost for dinner.

Its happened more than Id like to admit but after making this Instant Pot frozen roast I knew it wouldnt be a worry again.

Lets start with a few basic tips:

For reference, this is the pressure cooker I have and use for all recipe creations.

If youre like us and buy meat in bulk each year you probably have a full freezer too. Ground beef doesnt take long at all but larger pieces of protein take a few days in the fridge to thaw.

I do try to plan meals every Sunday on a white board on my fridge. That does really help when it comes to planning, and what to buy at the store.

BUT with homeschooling teens, working full time, renovating our home and an investment property I do get forgetful. I mean, can you blame me? NO longer is this an issue. I kid you not, nobody even realizes it when its done.
