Why Make Corned Beef And Cabbage In An Instant Pot

Like many Instant Pot recipes, the Instant Pot infuses the corned beef, broth and vegetables with seasoning to make it extra flavorful, and cooks faster than other methods of cooking. No brining is required, nor is slow cooking. While I cant say it cooks in an instant, it does cook in a couple of hours instead of cooking all day.

Can I Cook Potatoes With The Corned Beef

Absolutely! I add medium to large red potatoes to my corned beef and let them cook together. If you choose small red potatoes, you will want to cook the corned beef for 25 minutes, then use the quick release method to release the steam. Then add the small red potatoes and cook at high pressure for another 15 minutes.

I dont peel the potatoes. I just wash them, cut off any bruised spots, and throw them in whole. They will crack open while cooking and all the flavors will seep in, effortlessly creating the most flavorful potatoes EVER!

    What Is Corned Beef

Corned beef is a versatile way to prepare beef, and you have probably have eaten it with cabbage, between two slices of rye bread, or even in your breakfast hash, But what do you know about corned beef?

The name corned beef has nothing to do with corn, the vegetable, but the meats preparation process. Corning, or salt curing, was a popular way of preservation before the invention of refrigeration.

Corned beef comes from the brisket, a large, tough cut of meat that requires plenty of cooking before it is tender enough to eat. Typically, supermarkets sell corned beef brisket in two different sections, the pointcut, and the flat cut. The pointcut has significantly more fat, and therefore it is more tender than the flat cut when cooked and usually more expensive. Flat cut corned beef is much leaner and more uniform in shape that helps it cook more evenly.

How do you celebrate St Patricks Day? Do you have any fun traditions that you do from year to year?

I remember growing up, my family was big into leprechauns. We would spend the week up until St Pattys Day building our trap because we were sure we could catch one.

My parents were really good about putting out green footprints, and turning random items in house green. It was really fun.

We also always made Instant Pot Corned Beef and Cabbage, shamrock cookies, and other festive treats.

In college, I made a random St Patricks Day tradition of running a race in St George called Shamrock Your Socks Off. It was a 10K down snow canyon and I ran in it for 4 years straight.

It was so beautiful! The course and the backdrop were so pretty I looked forward to it every year!

Instant Pot St Pattys Day Corned Beef And Cabbage

Top of the morning to you! If youre looking for something EASY and delicious to make for St. Patricks Day Ive got a great recipe for you. After making Instant Pot St. Pattys Day Corned Beef and Cabbage I will never make corned beef in any other way again. The Instant Pot makes it so fast and easy. The corned beef turns out tender and sliceable. You need to try it!

Youll start this recipe by placing a quartered onion and some broth into the bottom of the Instant Pot. Next youll rinse off the corned beef. Its important to rinse the corned beef because the beef has been cured or corned. This is a pickling process that uses a lot of salt and spices to infuse the meat. There will be excess salt lingering on the surface of the brisket. By rinsing off the meat youll make sure its not too salty of a meal. Dont worry because rinsing the brisket wont make the beef taste bland! The flavor is infused deep into the beef during the curing process.

What to do with leftover corned beef? Make a Rueben sandwich! Pile corned beef, Swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and Russian dressing on top of grilled slices of rye bread. Or try my Instant Pot Red Flannel Hash! Its so good! You could also use corned beef in the place of smoked sausage in the Instant Pot campfire hash.

Easy Steps To Make Instant Pot Corned Beef

The BEST Corned Beef and Cabbage – Quick and Easy Instant Pot Recipe
  • Place corned beef in Instant Pot.
  • Sprinkle with the spice packet, drop in the fresh thyme sprigs and add minced garlic.
  • Add beef broth. I use the unsalted or low sodium variety as there is already enough salt in the meat.
  • Slowly pour in the beer. Cover, seal and cook on high. The amount of time is determined by the size of your roast.
  • Once pressure has been released, remove corned beef to a plate and cover to keep warm.
  • Add cut vegetables to the broth and cook for 4 minutes on high. At this time, Iâd advise you to cover the valve with a paper towel to avoid a mess created from spitting liquids.
  • The Instant Pot is truly a great appliance to make electric pressure cooker corned beef tender, juicy, and flavored with or without beer. So if you want to know how to cook corned beef in a pressure cooker, give this Instant Pot corned beef recipe a try. Iâd make this corned beef with beer again no matter what time of year! Instant Pot Corned Beef

Corned beef is a traditional Irish recipe slow cooked until the meat is tender. Corned beef is normally a salt cured piece of inexpensive brisket meat.

The spices on the beef consist of course salt which helped coin the name corned beef since the resembled corns. It is served with cabbage, potatoes and carrots.

This version takes the cook time and cuts it down to 90 minutes and some change. All the other regular aspects of this Instant Pot corned beef recipe are the same.

    Two: Pressure Cook The Vegetables

    • Remove onion with a slotted spoon and discard.
    • Drain off all but 2 cups of the cooking liquid. You can also strain the cooking liquid if desired to remove the pickling spices, I do not find that necessary.
    • Add in potatoes and carrots to cooking liquid.
    • Top with cabbage wedges that are still intact.
    • Cook for 5 minutes on high pressure.
    • Let pressure release naturally for at least 5 minutes before doing a quick release of any remaining pressure.
    • To serve, slice the brisket against the grain.
    • Serve with potatoes, carrots, cabbage, and whole grain mustard for dipping, if desiredmy personal favorite.
