After cooking in the Instant Pot, wait 5 minutes and then turn the steam trigger to the vent. Open the lid and carefully remove the pork ribs from the pan.

How To Prep The Ribs

To prep the ribs, wash and pat dry to remove any excess moisture. Check if the membrane is still there on the boney side, as usually it is already removed. However, if its still there, heres how you remove it:

Place the ribs upside down on a cutting board, and using a butter knife slide under the membrane on the back of the bone. It is a thin layer, so you dont need to go deep. Once you have loosened it, take a paper towel and grab onto it with one hand. Hold the ribs down with the other hand and gently pull on the membrane, It should come off easily.

Instant Pot Country Ribs

Instant Pot Country Style Ribs

When summertime nears I start thinking about barbecuing, my favorite smoked ribs recipe with a pork dry rub. Some days I dont get to preparing dinner early enough to do either of those methods though.

That is when this comes in really handy. There is a quick second step under the broiler to get the outside crispy but you can make them super tender and juicy in no time at all using this method.

  • Rack of ribs, country style is different than baby back as there may not be any bones or just a bit but its closer to cartilage texture.
  • Liquid smoke gives them a nice flavor.
  • Apple cider vinegar, or apple juice cider
  • Barbecue sauce
  • Our recipe for dry rub , or use your favorite bottled mixture
  • Beef broth is necessary for the pot to come to pressure
  • You could leave the rub off entirely if you wanted to, and the sauce is optional. I like LOTS of flavor though so the more the better if you ask me. OH, and youll need a trivet or small rack so the meat isnt submerged into the liquid.

Why Pressure Cook Country Style Boneless Ribs

While I have a slow cooker recipe or two for ribs, I do like making boneless ribs in the electric pressure cooker.

First, its so much faster and doesnt take all day.

Second, they come out moist and tender. But not too tender.

Sometimes I overcook short ribs, baby back ribs, and beef ribs in my crock pot. Im left with a pile of rib bones and shredded meat. Whoops! Not what I wanted.

Pressure cooking ribs is so much easier and the results are more dependable.

How To Make These Ribs Using Your Own Barbecue Sauce

    • The barbecue sauce that someone chooses to slather on ones ribs is quite the personal thing. We understand and respect this. While we like the simple mustard barbecue sauce in the above pressure cooker ribs recipe, we understand if you prefer to substitute a barbecue sauce thats already near and dear to your heart. Just follow the recipe above through Step 4 and then discard the broth and use your barbecue sauce to baste the ribs in place of the mustard, brown sugar and broth mixture.

    How To Bake Ribs

Remove the membrane: Before preparing the ribs, you want to remove the silverskin membrane from the underside, as its tough and blocks the seasonings from penetrating into the meat. Slide a sharp knife underneath to start separating it. Then grip it with a piece of paper towel and rip the rest of it off.

Preparing the ribs: Rub the ribs all over with the seasonings. Then place them meat side down in a single layer in a rectangular baking pan or sheet pan lined with parchment

Baking the ribs: Place the ribs in a preheated oven. If you want to sauce your ribs, simply remove the ribs from the oven 30-60 minutes before theyre done and brush with sauce. Put them back to the oven until theyre done.

Resting: Once the ribs are done, let them rest covered with foil for 5-10 minutes before serving. This important step allows the juices can retreat back into the meat, so theyre nice and tender.

What Makes This Instant Pot Recipe So Good

    Easy INSTANT POT RIBS Recipe

Once you try this Instant Pot Baby Back Ribs, you wont have to order them at restaurants again! Heres why its so good:

Easy. Once you make this Instant Pot Pork Ribs, youll realize how easy it is to make. It uses repeatable steps that always comes out perfect.

Cheap. Buying baby back ribs in the grocery costs around $15. In restaurants, they tend to be quite expensive, usually more than $25, and it can even be a hit or miss with the quality. But these Instant Pot Pork Ribs are always delicious and better than a lot of the ones in restaurants!

Flexible. A lot of the ingredients are flexible so the possibilities are endless with what you can play around. For example, you can use spareribs or beef ribs instead of baby back ribs. You can use a different sauce instead of BBQ.

Versatile. BBQ Baby Back Ribs are definitely one of the perfect dishes for the Instant Pot Duo Crisp + Air Fryer because it allows you to pressure cook and air fry all in one pot. However, you can still do the caramelization in other ways by broiling in the oven or air frying separately, and Ive included them here too. Or you can even just skip the caramelization and stick with delicious pressure cooked ribs.

No Grill. This is very important for me because I live in a condo where a grill isnt allowed. By using the oven or air fryer, were able to make these BBQ ribs look like theyre grilled due to the caramelization of the BBQ sauce.

Can I Cook Them From Frozen

Yes, you can cook Instant Pot ribs right from frozen. Youll just need to cut them into the right size and add the spice rub to them prior to freezing. So that all you have to do is just place them in the Instant pot and follow the rest of the instructions. Because they are frozen youll need to add about 5-7 minutes extra to the cooking times.

Even though you can cook them from frozen, I recommend that you thaw them out. Whenever Ive cooked anything from frozen I find the meat tends to be a little drier than if thawed out completely.

    Are Country Ribs Even Ribs

So you might be surprised to learn this, but country-style pork ribs arent technically ribs at all! Theyre much more like pork chops than something like baby back ribs.

Country pork ribs are mostly meat and have much less fat than ribs. People generally cook their instant pot pork country ribs in that fall-off-the bone fashion until the meat is very soft.

    Brown Ribs Under The Broiler

I know this is an Instant Pot recipe, but dont skip this last step as it is critical for the best Instant Pot ribs! When you take your ribs out of the Instant Pot, put them on a foil-lined baking sheet. Brush barbecue sauce over the ribs and put them under the broiler for a few minutes. Broiling the ribs in the oven allows them to brown and starts to caramelize the BBQ sauce > more flavor!

How To Make Instant Pot Ribs:

  • Season the ribs all over with a dry spice rub.
  • Add liquid to the bottom of the instant pot.
  • Curl the ribs around the instant pot, with the meat side facing out. If your ribs are already cut in sections then stand them up in the same manner, lining them up around the pot.
  • Cook them on high pressure. Cooking times will vary just slightly depending on the type of ribs you use, your elevation, and if you want them tender to the bite, or fall-off-the-bone tender.
  • When the ribs are finished cooking you can slather them in your favorite store-bought or homemade bbq sauce.

I also like to stick them under the broiler for just a few minutes, to let the bbq sauce caramelize and char a little bit. YUM!

How Do You Like To Serve Your Ribs

Once the ribs are caramelized and ready to serve, my husband likes to cut them into individual ribs before serving to make them easier to eat. If youd rather, you can serve them in racks of three or four ribs.

While the ribs are the star of the show, I love to pair them with baked beans, potato salad or macaroni salad, garlic roasted red potatoes, and macaroni and cheese. And, of course, corn on the cob, fresh cherries and watermelon around the 4th of July, and raspberries and peaches in late summer.

Be sure and have plenty of napkins handy!

To show you how quick and easy this is, my son and I made this super short video.

How To Remove The Membrane From Baby Back Ribs

Most ribs still have the membrane or silver skin on them. The membrane is the white shiny connective tissue on the back of the ribs that can make meat a little chewy. Removing this from your meat can give you a more tender end product. Check to make sure the membrane on your ribs has been removed and if it hasnt, follow these steps to remove it:

    • Flip the rib over so that the meat side is face down and bone side is facing up.
    • Starting on one side, gently slide a knife under the membrane and pull it off just a little bit. Once you have enough membrane to hold on to you should just be able to pull it all off in one pull. Just make sure you are pulling from one side all the way to the other to ensure youre removing the entire thing.

Easiest Instant Pot Baby Back Ribs

Last year my mom and dad gave away their grill. My dad had rebuilt that thing at least five times over the years, but as the grill got older as they have too, the good old Char Broil just really didnt see much grilling action anymore. So off to the trash heap it went.

However, my dads love affair with BBQ ribs will always remain strong. So when I was making my weekly meal prep plan that included taking dinner up to their house one night, I was thrilled to see baby back pork ribs were on sale and half price on my Kroger apps 2-day Digital Deal. So with the tap of my finger, the deal was added to my grocery list and off to the grocery store I went.

Because while my dad loves his ribs, he loves a deal even more. And the apple doesnt fall far from the tree.

What Do You Do If Instant Pot Ribs Are Tough

Instant Pot RIBS Recipe | The EASIEST Pork Ribs

This recipe was designed for small baby back ribs. But sometimes even baby back ribs have more meat on them than others. If theyre on the large side or thick, they might come out of the pressure cooker tough.

First, dont panic. They simply need more time to cook.

For tough ribs, place the lid back on the pot. If they seem almost tender but not quite done, program the cooking cycle for 5 minutes. And, again, allow for a natural release.

For ribs that are very tough, program the cooking cycle for 10-12 minutes. When the cooking cycle completes, allow the pressure cooker to release pressure naturally.

Do You Have To Thaw Meat Before Pressure Cooking

To pressure-cook thick pieces of frozen meat like beef or pork roasts, it will take up to one-third more than the normal cooking time, and the results will not taste very good. Browning thawed or partially thawed meat before pressure-cooking significantly increases the flavour of the meat.

    DONT MISS A RECIPE ->

  • I actually have never made it in the slow cooker before. But I know what crock pot recipe Im making next.

  • DiegoReply

Made this twice. First time followed the recipe to the T. The rub had slightly too much of a pepper taste. However, it was still good.

The second time I halved the pepper amount and followed the rest of the recipe. I also increased the time to 27 minutes thinking it would truly be fall off the bone ribs. The rub wasnt as good and the increase time sort of made it drier.

I want you to know Im being very picky here. Both cooks were real good. I was just tweaking the recipe a little to see if I could make it better.

After cooking this twice, I think the recipe is fine as is. Nothing really needs to be tweaked. It is good as is.
