I would recommend using russet potatoes, baby dutch, or baby red potatoes. Actually, all of these types work great when cooked under pressure. Also, if you are using larger-sized potatoes, cut them into smaller pieces. But make sure not too small, otherwise, they will become mushy. Hence, I recommend cutting them into 1 1/2 inch pieces.

Key Steps For Rice In The Instant Pot

  • Rinse the rice before cooking. Rinsing rice before cooking removes any dirt from processing, gets rid of starch that can make the rice sticky, and, Ive found, makes the rice taste better. According to Instant Pots manual, rinsing the rice also makes up for the small amount of moisture lost in evaporation during the cooking process.
  • Use the right ratio of rice to water. Instant Pot suggests any rice can be cooked with a one-to-one rice-to-water ratio, but during testing, we found this wasnt universally true both among Instant Pot models and other multi-cookers. Use slightly more water when cooking brown rice and wild rice to prevent undercooking and scorching. Plus, its better to err on the side of more water, since most rice varieties can be drained if theres excess moisture.
  • Pressure cook the rice on high. Lock the lid in place and set to cook at HIGH pressure for the following times:;
  • White rice : 5 minutes;
  • Long-grain brown rice: 10 minutes;
  • Wild rice: 15 minutes
  • Let the rice natural release for at least 10 minutes.;Using natural release for rice yields fluffy results and less likelihood that the rice on the bottom of the pot will stick or burn.

    Can You Freeze Cooked Beets

    Yes, you can freeze cooked beets and its pretty simple. Once the beets are cooked, allow them to cool completely. You can place them in an ice-water bath to speed up the process.

    Once cool enough, peel off the skins and cut off the tops and roots. You can freeze them whole, cut them in halves, slice or chop the beets up into cubes. Spread them out on a flat tray, sheet or plate and place in the freezer to flash freeze for about 1 hour. This will prevent the beets from getting stuck together while freezing.

    Once the beets are almost fully frozen, transfer them into freezer bags. Beets will keep for a long time but are best used within 6 months or so. Some people recommend vacuum sealing them due to their high water content, which will prevent freezer burn. You can also simply remove as much excess air from the freezer bag as possible and seal it very tight.

    Defrost the beets in the fridge overnight or in a microwave and then use as you would any regularly cooked beets.

    Creamy red potatoes and spicy, smoky andouille sausage go into the well-seasoned broth first, since they take a bit longer to cook than the shrimp or corn. Mexican chorizo is a good substitute for andouille; its spicy-sharp flavor is on par with the typical Cajun sausage. A kielbasa link is a good option for those who prefer a little less spice.

    How Many Eggs can you Make in an Instant Pot??

    This is a super simple method to pressure cook beets without boiling them in water. You can use any size Instant Pot and all you need is water and a trivet to place the beets on.

    You dont even need to wash the beets unless they are covered in dirt. Simply cut off the leaves and stems . Place the trivet inside the pot and add a cup of water. Place the beets over the top, as many as you can fit. You can also overlap them. I like to cook a large batch and then store some of them in the fridge and freeze the rest for later.

    Smaller beets need less cooking time and if you have a variety of sizes in the pot, you have to decide on the average time. Here are approximate cooking times for different cooked beets results.

    Our Method Of Cooking Pasta

    Our method for cooking any type of pasta in the Instant Pot is a bit different, and well explain how we came to it below. But first, here is our basic method:

  • Add dried pasta and water to nearly cover the pasta. A few pieces of pasta sticking above the water line is ok. You dont want to cook it in too much water because that lengthens the time it takes to heat and that can become a problem during the pressure release .
  • Set the Instant Pot to the cooking time of 0 minutes, and yes this is an actual cooking time and not a typo!
  • Once it comes up to pressure and hits 0 minutes, let the pressure naturally release for 3 minutes. This reads as L 00:03 on the Instant Pot.
  • Then release the remaining pressure manually.
  • So whats the science behind this? Its simple: the pasta is already cooking during the time it takes to come up to the pressure, and the pasta continues to cook when the pressure cooker clicks off. The reason we do it this way is to minimize the Instant Pot from boiling over with starch. This looks like starch spewing out of the pressure release knob.
