The Instant Pot is frequently one of the best-selling kitchen appliances thanks to its multicooking capabilities. It can be a rice cooker, a slow cooker, a pressure cooker, and some models even let you make yogurt. A few years ago, the company released the Instant Pot Smart WiFi, which let you control it remotely from your phone. Now, theres a brand new connected model called the Instant Pot Pro Plus that promises to do that, and more.

Similar to the Smart WiFi, you can connect the Instant Pot Pro Plus to your phone over WiFi. You can then use the Instant Pot app to start or stop cooking, check the timing and monitor the progress from anywhere in the home. But the Pro Plus can do more than that. The app has over 1,500 smart recipes, which have the timing, pressure levels and venting preferences already pre-programmed in, so all you need to do is follow the step-by-step instructions to prepare your meal. Plus, you can release the steam valve remotely and enter in a delayed start time. You can also create your own custom recipe with programmable venting methods .

What Can You Cook With The 8

Considering that Instapots are known as multi-cookers, the Instant Pot Smart Wifi is no different. Essentially, it has 8 major functions combined into one effective appliance.

And thats not even the best part:

You see, while 8 is the advertised number, it has many more uses. In fact, the IP Wifi has a total of 14 smart programs, yet you can make an infinite number of recipes. In short, the skys the limit.

Is The Instant Pot Wifi Easy To Use

With regards to the manual controls, Instant Pot 8 in 1 relatively easy to manipulate the Instant Pot with Wifi.

The smart programs are especially a massive help with this electric pressure cooker. Simply add the ingredients, select the function, and let the machine do all the work. Its one of those set-and-forget machines, so you can rest easy in the kitchen.

Needless to say, these programs are also customizableduration, pressure, and temperature. In other words, you can personalize any recipe to your liking. Additionally, you can adjust the sound of the Instant Pot Wifi.

Heres more:

Youll likely appreciate the Cooker Status Icons on top of the LCD screen. Primarily, it indicates whether the wi-fi is connected/connecting, if the machine is preheating or cooking , if the keep warm is on/off, and the sound.

Heres the catch:

Sadly, theres this feature or the lack thereof, that disappoints me. The machine doesnt have automatic venting or at least a separate switch for releasing steam. The thing is, before the newer Instant Pots came out, this wasnt a big deal. That being said, it isnt the case anymore.

You see, the updated versions have these marvelous features that fit the name, Smart.

For one, the Instapot Max features automatic hands-free venting. Secondly, other recent products have separate release valves and vents .

Its a no-brainer that these are safer and easier to manage.

Worst App Bt Ip Is Useless

Let me start by saying, dont bother with the Bluetooth Instant Pot. The BT function is useless. It requires this app which has never worked for me. Ive had the BT IP for years. Sometimes the app connects but there was never a functioning alarm where it would send you a notification when the IP was done. And the Bluetooth range is literally 10 whole feet, unless theres a wall. Why bother? And now the app is even more useless if you can believe it because it wont even load My Devices. So I cant even connect to the IP. Ive tried deleting the app and reinstalling. Why charge extra for a feature you never intended to let people use, Instant Pot?!They have a WiFi IP now but why would I ever spend the extra $$ for it when this hasnt worked since Day One… like 6 or 7 years ago? Come on, figure it out!

What Does The Instant Pot Smart Wifi With Alexa Do

Put simply, the Alexa Enabled Instant Pot gives you hands-free control of many of your Instant Pot functions. So when your hands are dirty or wet or busy painting your nails doing other useful things, you simply tell Alexa what to do.

For example: Alexa, find a recipe for beans in the Instant Pot or Alexa, cook soup in my Instant Pot and BAM! your Instant Pot magically turns on and starts the soup cooking function! Very cool!

There are many commands that will work very well. It does an amazing job using your pre-programmed buttons It also does a great job with just the Pressure Cook function

I also love that you can ask Alexa to find an Instant Pot recipe using __________ and she will come up with the top recipes for that category. Then you can ask her to send that recipe to your phone, which is pretty cool.

But there are a few areas in need of improvement First of all, when you name your Instant Pot Smart WiFi , make sure to pick something super easy so Alexa will recognize it. I finally ended up choosing to name mine My Instant Pot Alexa really struggled to find my pot when I called it something else

Also, getting the verbiage right for the commands takes a bit of trial and error . So youve got to take time time to learn it.

Overall, the Alexa Skill for the Instant Pot is better than I expected. If youre a techie like I am, youll love getting to know it. If you get frustrated with technology, then you might want to hold off.

Pros

Using The Instant Pot

To test the Instant Pot, I used one of the pre-programmed chili recipes in the app. I started by pressing the sauté button and waited for the pot to heat up while I diced some onions and garlic. Once the display read Hot, I threw the onions and garlic in along with ground beef, canned tomatoes, and some spices and stirred intermittently. It wasn’t until I was at the end of the recipe, when all the ingredients were mixed in, that I was able to use the Wi-Fi feature. I secured the lid, pressed the Pressure Cooker button, and tapped Cook Now in the app. On the Instant Pot’s display, the Pressure Cook icon appeared next to an icon that shows heating/cooking is in progress. Once it was at the right temperature, a ten-minute timer appeared on both the display and the app.

With everything in place, I left the kitchen and used my phone to check on the progress. The app shows the time remaining, a thermometer icon for temperature, the status of the pressure, and the heat level. But the only actual control available is to stop the Instant Pot from continuing to cook. When it was ready, I received an alert on my phone and went back into the kitchen, then waited for the pressure to release naturally before manually toggling the valve to venting mode. After removing the lid, I let it cool down a little before serving a delicious bowl of chili.

Instant Pot Ultra Vs Instant Pot Smart Wi

Instant Pot Smart WiFi 6 Quart Multi Use Programmable Electric Pressure ...

Our pick

The Instant Pot Ultra is one of the higher-end options, and it’s fantastic. It includes cake, egg, and sterilize programs so you can cook those things easier, and sterilize is handy for baby bottles and other items that need a deep clean. The Ultra setting lets users accurately control the temperature inside the pot, so it can be used for sous vide. The auto-seal means one less thing to worry about and the Quick Release button makes it easier to release pressure from the pot.

For

  • Built-in altitude adjustment for a precise cooking time
  • Cooking progress indicator
  • Quick Release button makes it easier to release pressure
  • Allows for precise temperature control so you can do pseudo-sous vide cooking

Against

  • All-digital display with a sensitive knob that’s not as intuitive as buttons
  • Might have too many settings

Accessible cooking

The Instant Pot Smart Wi-Fi is similar to the popular Duo model, except that it includes a few extra functions like Cake, and it connects to your phone via Wi-Fi. While it supports the ability to use programmable scripts for cooking certain recipes, it does require a bit of technical know-how to do so, which involves extra work.

  • Wi-Fi-enabled so you can control it with your phone

Against

  • Using the programmable scripts requires a bit of technical know-how

How About The Instant Pot Smart Bluetooth

The Instant Pot Smart Bluetooth is a 7-in-1 kitchen appliance. It combines the functions of a pressure cooker, slow cooker, rice/porridge cooker, steamer, yogurt maker, sauté-er/pan, and warmerall in one machine!

Heres the deal:

The Bluetooth and Wifi models may not look similar, but theyre practically the same regarding their technical specifications. The sole function not in Smart Bluetooth is the cake program. Nonetheless, they can achieve pretty much the same recipes.

As for nuanced differences:

The Smart Bluetooth version has the delay start as a timer button. Simultaneously, it features an adjust button when modifying the temperature or pressure.

So, the only significant difference is the Bluetooth or wifi connectivity. Regardless, theyre both considered smart since they can connect to your phone.

Heres the thing:

The brand released Instant Pot Bluetooth way before the Smart Wifi version. In short, its already phased out, so I dont recommend it either.

Heres how the old app look, just for comparison.

The popular Instant Pot Duo family is quite extensive, with plenty of cool products that improve the lives of amateur cooks and their families.
