How To Store Corn On The Cob
- Before Cooking: Store fresh ears of corn at room temperature if you plan to cook them within a few hours. For longer storage, keep the husks on, wrap the corn tightly in a plastic bag, and store in your refrigerator. Fresh corn on the cob is best cooked within 1-2 days, but may last in the refrigerator for 3 days.
- After Cooking: Let the corn cool, and be sure to refrigerate within two hours of cooking. Place corn in a zip-top bag and seal, or store in an airtight container. The corn will last in the refrigerator for about 3 days. You can also freeze cooked corn by cutting the kernels off of the cob and freezing in an airtight container for up to 3 months.
Instant Pot Safety 101
Are pressure cookers safe to use? The answer is yes, but there are a few safety considerations youll want to be mindful of always.
The release instructions are really important and they exist for a reason. Any recipe that is thick or oily can form little bubbles that get trapped and do not immediately rise to the surface, and when you open they can rise to the surface and erupt, says Rachel.
Here are Rachels suggested safety guidelines:
- Never fill the insert more than half full with any bean or grain recipe or 2/3rds full for other recipes.
- No thickening agents before pressure cooking these should be added after and they include flour, cornstarch and condensed soups.
- No hard alcohol in the pressure cooker.
- Always follow release instructions. And know release guidelines. Any recipe that is thick or oily, or uses a fatty cut of meat should have at the very least, a 10 minute natural release before opening. Generally big cuts of meat require a full natural release.
- Do not add more than 1/4th cup of fat.
- Never force the lid off.
- And as a precaution when cooking the foods that qualify as thick or oily, give the Instant Pot a little shake after pressure is released or tap on the counter to help any air bubbles erupt while the cover is still on.
- Lastly, if you see others using the Instant Pot incorrectly, say something.

If you are only cooking something in the elevated pot, be sure that you add water to the pot first. Otherwise, you will get the burn message as the pot heats up.
Learn How To Boil Water

You do this by adding a cup or so of water to the inner pot , sealing the lid, and selecting a short cook time. Sound too good to be true? Well, it’s a little bit more complicated than all that. In fact, the biggest complaint about this popular piece of kitchen equipment is that the manual is a tough read, which is one reason loads of community forums have popped up, offering great advice about how to approach this helpful tool instead of letting it gather dust in the cupboard. Here’s what we’ve learned from poring over user’s suggestions, hints, tips and advice.
1. Start Slowly
Because so many cooks feel right at home with a slow cooker, head that direction as way to become familiar with the various buttons and settings. The beauty of this high-functioning device is that it has the ability to saute, so braising is super easy. Press the saute button and wait for the display to read “hot” before adding food. Then, after the food has browned, hit the slow cooker button and set the timer, according to the recipe instructions. After cooking, the Instant Pot keeps the food warm for up to six hours.

Instant Pot Swedish Meatballs
This speedier version of Swedish meatballs is streamlined and made in an Instant Pot®, but loses nothing that we love about the classic recipe. Gone is the step of chilling and resting the subtly spiced meatballs; we brown them as soon as theyre formed. We also bypass the tedious process of making a roux and whisking in broth to form the rich, creamy gravy. Instead, we simply pour the broth over the meatballs, dot it with pieces of beurre manie and let the Instant Pot® do the work. After the steam is released, all thats left to do is stir in some heavy cream.
